Summary: Great First MP3 Player
Review: This is my first MP3 player. I was forced to buy one when my portable CD player finally went kaput. Since my main use has been for the gym, I thought something light and small like this unit would be perfect. I read a lot of other reviews and this unit was highly rated almost everywhere; that explains why it was almost impossible to find anywhere in Chicago. ...

My experience with it so far is that it is really outstanding and an amazing piece of engineering. The sound is great (I used my portable CD headphones instead of the ear buds that come with the unit - I find these uncomfortable.) The battery life is great as well.

I do recommend going to the iRiver web site and downloading the latest versions of their firmware and Software Manager for transferring songs. The most recent version allows you to switch the order of songs after they have been downloaded... something I like to do to get the sequence I want for my workout and something which the previous version did not allow. Installation of the USB cable is simple and I had a Player full of songs in about 1 hour after getting this baby home.

My complaints are small: I agree with everyone that the battery hatch is flimsy. I have already dropped my unit once and sure enough, the door popped right open. And for my 47 yo eyes, the display is smallish and dim, even with the back lighting and contrast enhanced. But I know this is as much my fault as the player's.

I expect that as memory keeps getting added, the 256 MB model is now out, that the prices on the lower memory models will start dropping sharply. I also expect the first non-juke box gigabyte model to be coming soon. One to two years from now, these things will be selling for [less money] or so and be at the grocery check-out line. Still, amazing engineering. You will love this unit.

Summary: The greatest MP3 player you can buy
Review: I just received this thing today, and being a veteran of MP3 gagdets, I had to let the world know how great this thing is. I started with the Diamond Rio, and most recently my portable music device of choice was the AVC MP3 CD Soulplayer, which was very good until I dropped it.:( I wanted something small, light, lots of memory, radio functionality, long battery life, and fast data transfer. For the price, the 128 MB iriver is the way to go. This thing is absolutely tiny, you can't really tell from the pictures of it how small it is. Despite its triangular shape, it fits nicely in a pocket. The sound quality is excellent thanks to the high quality ear buds that are included. The radio works great, but it doesn't pick up stations that have a weaker signal. My favorite thing about the iriver is the excellent menu system. It's intuitive and easy to use, but sacrifices nothing. The only thing I would change is I would remove the little necklace ring, I don't think I would want to wear this around my neck. This is top of the line player, and I highly recommend it.

Summary: Simply Awesome!
Review: ...BR>Amazing price.

I love this mp3 player. It has all the features
and they actually all work very well. FM radio
sounds cool and you can record this and it is
in MP3 format. And voice recorder is also excellent
which I don't use much, but might come handy.

The size is kind of big compared to others, but
taking into account of all the features and controls
this things has I don't mind. First I didn't like
the triangluar shape, but it actually is nice since
I can lay it on my desk and still see the displays.

And best of all it sounds great! I couldn't believe it. I will
defintely recommend this one. I bought 128MEG which still
holds like 30 songs, but I should have gotten 256MEG.

In my opinion, this is one of the best MP3 player.
Enjoy!

Summary: concerts from a cigaretter lighter size box
Review: Well I've had this for 2 weeks now. Superb sound quality with seperate bass and treble controls. The single AA battery required can be bought anywhere in the world, and does appear to last around 20 hrs. Almost the size of a cigarette lighter and as it has no moving parts, can be used for jogging etc, plus a greater battery life. No memory expansion, but one can always change the songs inside ( 128 Megs = 3.5 hrs of music approx at 128 quality ). Plus there is an FM tuner, thats a good change of pace. included sannheiser headphones give a fresh edgy sound. There's also a voice recorder which i have not tried out as yet. For me installing the software and downloading mp3s from my PC was very easy and hasslefree ( 35 tracks in 3 minutes ). I have Win 2000. One word.. its the same cost at Best Buy, and i got a 4 yr service plan for this.. i know 4 yrs sounds a lot, but given the ease with which electronics give up the ghost these days, a service plan costing [money] is probably worth the peace of mind. I'm buying a couple for my friends as gifts. Very happy with iRiver (hope its not a premature statement, but so far its worked like a charm ). There are other features too like programming and shuffle modes and a cool backlight on the LCD screen, but so far have not explored those as my main requirement was to have a fair amount of memory, good battery life, ease of carrying and good sound quality, all of which are solid attributes of this mp3 player. I wish the player came with an arm band ( like the nike-phillips ), good for jogging, but one can either buy one from the iriver website or fashion one from a sock.
Perhaps prices shall drop within the year, but can one wait that long !? after having this, i'd say no !

Summary: Great MP3 Player
Review: I just bought my iRiver 180T in Feb. 2003. Its my first MP3 player and I am happy with it. Worked perfectly right aways. No problems what so ever after 3 months of use. I love the smallness! I get about 2hrs of songs on it. Software is simple and works flawlessly with Windows98. Battery life is great. The display is easy to read and has a back-light. The build quality is perfect in my engineering opinion. Much better than other units I checked out. The only thing that is a hassle is the mini joystick. Sinces its so small and controls so many functions depending how you push it (left, right, up, down, in)its almost impossible to adjust the volume or skip a trap without visually looking at the unit, which is not convenient if you are jogging or biking for example. Another negative thing is no carrying case. The shape of the player is sorta cool, though it also is not ideal when it comes to finding some sort of carrying case. Another downside, the unit's memory cannot be expanded. Take into consideration the joystick inconvenience and no carrying case, if this does not bother you, this is a TERRIFIC MP3 player!!

Summary: good product
Review: This is a good lower-end MP3 player. I don't need anything fancy, since I only use a player at the gym, so I decided to get the iRiver 180-T. After using it for about three months now, I can say I'm pretty satisfied. The sound is good, battery life is very good, and it's fairly lightweight. The downside is using the armband sport-holder (purchased from the manufacturer's site). It's difficult to get the player in and out of the holder to change the battery.

Summary: GREAT THING!!!
Review: It's really great thing. I never expected that a mp3 player could sound as well as it. Congratulations for iriver on make such one product. Sound is well and loud (!!!), it comes with very good Sennheiser headphones (some better than mx200 I have a long ago; though I prefer px20). FM tuner is good too. Maybe players of new generation posses some new features, but I prefer this one for battery you could buy everywhere in the world. Highely recommended!

Summary: So far, So Good!
Review: I've always wanted an MP3 player that was also an FM radio. Well when I found this iRiver model I was stoked to see that it had the FM recording capability. I've had it for a few days now and it works well. It took a while to master the controls, (still havent really figured out how to preset FM stations) but all in all its a great little gadet. The MP3/WAV sound quality is great, the software froze on me a couple of times but not to bad otherwise. FM recording doesnt have the same sound quality as the MP3 or WAV files but it's good just the same. Only issue is my ear buds. I found that the left bud's wire is shorter than the right! I'm not sure if its supposed to be like that or if mine is defective. It's annoying but the buds have a much better sound quality to them then my pricey headphones so I grin in bare it. All in all, a great gadget.

Summary: iRiver 128 MB mp3 Player
Review: This was my first mp3 player and i think it was a good choice, expecially if you've never had an mp3 player before.

First of all, let me say that, if you listen to a ton of music, you have a lot of cd's, you have a lot of music on your computer, than this is NOT the mp3 player for you. In that case i would recommend an Ipod or Nomad. It is only 128 mb, meaning it can hold roughly 2 hours of music, which is about 2 CDs worth of music.

Despite it's small music compacity, it has many good atributes. The thing i like most about it is that it has a radio, which you don't find in many mp3 players. Also, you can record music from the radio, which is a good way to safely listen to music legally, rather than downloading it illegaly. At times the reception isn't the best, but what can you expect from such a small player?

Another good thing about it is that it is easy to organize your music. The program that comes with it for you computer allows you to organize the music into folders, as well as program radio stations, or upload music that you recorded.

Ok, pros and cons

~PROS~

+ Size - It is very small, easily fits into a pocket, and is very light.

+ Sound quality - if you have a decent pair of headphones, the sound quality is actually pretty good. It can also get very loud.

+ Equalizer - This improves the sound quality even more. It includes different settings for different kinds of music, including rock, heavy metal, and others.

+ Battery life - Using only 1 battery, it can last practically forever. I use it for about an hour a day, 4 days a week, and i only have to replace the battery about once a month... that's over 16 hours of playback, so it does hold up to its gaurentee of 20 hours of playback.

+ Software - I thought it was relatively easy to use, although it wasn't too quick at transfering files.

+ Radio - Like i said, it's one of the few mp3 players with a radio.

~CONS~

- It is only 128 mb, meaning it can only hold about 2 hours of music, NOT 4 hours like it says. So its about 30 songs. I have many more songs that that... i have about 250 songs, so i would NOT recommend this AT ALL if you have a lot of music. It also can't be expanded, which means you're stuck with what you get.

- The joystick is sometimes hard to use, especially if you have it in a pocket, or if you are running and you don't want to slow down, take it out, and actually look at it when switching a song. When i had my CD player, i didn't have to look at it, i would just press the button, but the with the joystick, it's easy to turn it in the wrong direction.

Overall i gave this 4 out 5 stars because my only major complaint was that it didn't hold enough music. But if you want a VERY small and light mp3 player that can fit into the palm of your hand or your pocket, if you don't have too many songs, if you don't mind only having 30 songs on it... It has very good sound quality, it has a radio, it has a voice recorder.

If i could go back and buy it over again, i would have saved up my money to buy a bigger mp3 player, maybe even an ipod, but i am still happy with my choice, especially with the money situation that i was in, i couldn't afford anything bigger.

Summary: Not the Best & Not the Worst
Review: The mp3 player is good except the directions are very confusing. To transfer cd's to mp3 format is very complicated and always doesn't work. I would consider looking in to an Ipod. I heard there great. A little more money though.
