Summary: Perfect little MP3 player
Review: If you look at my other reviews, you'll see that I took back the iPod for a number of reasons. This MP3 player, however, is exactly what I've been looking for and was a good alternative to the iPod for me.With 1/2 a GB, it's exactly what I need when I'm commuting and on the run. I'm not the type to have whole albums on it -- I have more ecclectic taste and skip around; I'll have different sets of songs for different moods and this ended up perfect for being on the run. Originally, I bought the 15 GB iPod and changed my mind. I had downloaded 15 GB of songs and had to scroll through all of them -- for just one -- which can take awhile. If you're like that, you want something a "bit" smaller, like this little guy. And little it is! I'm still amazed at how tiny it is. It's a little larger than a cigarette lighter and very easy to control. It's not as sensitive as the iPod so I can have it in in my hand my pocket while I'm walking and skip or change songs if I want. It weighs less than an ounce and comes with a small cover that I "feel" could protect it if I dropped it (that's how small it is -- but don't take my word for it when it comes to dropping it. I haven't done that and bought the three-year service plan with it.) Figuring it out was very easy. When I plugged it into my system, it recognized it and downloaded the software immediately. After downloading the manager, all I did was drag and drop and presto -- that was it. Fairly fast download as well. Not lightning speed, but pretty good. I'd say it took only a few minutes to download 150 songs. Originally, I had the 128 MG Intel Pocket Concert which recently died (RIP) and got it for the radio aspect as well as the trebel/bass control so at first I missed it with this one. Then I realized that I didn't really use those features on the Intel as much as I thought I did. So, whereas this one doesn't have a whole lot of frills, it's alright because it's for the MP3s that I got it. Best part: plenty of space and it only uses one AAA battery. This was a major reason I took back the iPod. I did NOT want an MP3 player that constantly needed recharging. If my battery died out when I was on the run, I can just pull a new battery out of my bag and pop it in. With the iPod, I'd have to wait until I got to the recharging dock and then sit and wait for it to recharge. Fine by me. Not a whole lot of frills and fancy add-ons, but if MP3s is what you're buying it for, you won't miss them. This is a little guy that packs a huge wallop. You'll like it as much as I do.

Summary: The player's great, but the software is terrible...
Review: I was pretty excited about getting this mp3 player; most of the reviews I had read indicated that it was a good choice. Indeed, I was pleased to find a flash player that was expandable (I purchased a 256 MB card to use with it), had a voice recorder, and allowed me to listen to the radio. And I was (mostly) satisfied with the player. I wasn't entirely pleased with the sound quality However, given that the player operates on only on AAA battery, I didn't have high expectations to begin with. Furthermore, switching from the included ear buds to a higher quality pair or sony ear buds did improve the sound. What disappointed me the most about the FL100 wasn't actually the player, it was the software. To be perfectly blunt, the included software is terrible. The first time I attempted to upload mp3's to the player, the software crashed, forcing me to reformat the players internal memory. Subsequent attempts weren't much more successful. Inevitably, I was never able to get all of the files I wanted on to the player (although not for lack of space). There wasn't a single time I attempted to upload music that the software didn't crash. Sometimes, the software and the player would indicate that there were no files, but almost all of the memory was full. Other times, the files would be there, and then disappear. Needless to say, it was an exercise in frustration to even put enough files on the player to get me through an hour long trip to the gym. Uploading 20 files easily took an hour or more.
Since none of the other reviews I had read indicated that this had been a problem, I attempted to contact the MPIO technical support. Repeated emails remain unanswered. I have since given up on attempting to use the player, resigned to the fact that I wasted my money. I recently received a mini iPod as a birthday gift, and the difference is like night and day. If you are considering purchasing an mp3 player, I highly recommend spending the extra money to get an iPod. Although it does not have a radio tuner or a voice recorder, many of the other features are compatible, and the iTunes software is incredibly easy to use. And you'll never have to worry about having a constant supply of AAA batteries.

Summary: Great Product
Review: I was looking for a quality mp3 player that was small and lite but packed a good punch. I researched alot of different mp3 players and finally ordered the mpio fl100 about a year ago. I love this mp3 player. It takes a little getting used to because the volume button and song selection knob are small. It only took me a few times of using it before i got used to where the buttons are located. The battery life on the player is very good and I only change the battery about once a month and I use it every day. I would recommend rechargable batteries if you use it for long periods. I must also say how rugged the player is as i have dropped it a couple times and it still functions great. Recently it accidently went into the laundry and went through the washer and dryer cycles. I thought for sure that the player would be ruined but after an hour it works perfectly. The sound quality on the mp3 and radio modes are fantastic. I highly recommend this product.

Summary: Looks nice, but lacks in some areas
Review: I got my player for Christmas. It's small, the sound is nice, and the controls are *fairly* intuitive. However, there's two big issues with this player: First, the manual was poorly written (probably translated from one language to another, and nobody thought to hire a tech writer to make sure the instructions made sense). Second, there is no external power supply -- not even the USB connection can be used for external power. AAA batteries only. Perhaps most players only use batteries, but it seems to me it would've been smart to have some kind of power adapter with this device. Overall, I'm pleased, but I'll buy something better next time.

Summary: FY200 MPIO
Review: I got this for my birthday and it was my first experience with an MP3 player. I am extremely happy with it, but if I had done the shopping for this myself I would have researched it more. The added function of voice recording is nice, I will never use it though. You can record directly from a CD player with this, but the sound quality is not so great. Another function I will not use. I also find that if you download at the recommended 128 kb, you will not hold many songs. However, if you download at 96 kbs you hold much more and the quality is just as good. The set up is very easy, had no problem with that. You cannot download directly onto this MP3 player though. You need to burn music onto a cd then transfer to the FY200. If anybody knows an easier way, please post on this site. All in all, a nice little gadget that I am very happy with.

Summary: Dead After 3 Hours
Review: Just letting folks know - I downloaded about 420MB of songs very easily - software worked pretty good with XP. There was several times that it would just "freeze" but I just unplugged the USB cabled and "restarted" the FY200, and all seemed ok UNTIL... IT IS NOW COMPLETELY DEAD. All I did was simply hit the delete key to delete a 14MB song that took the total flash memory used to around 420MB and the thing is now completely useless. I tried rebooting my computer and completely restarting FY200 to no avail. Somehow all those 420 songs are still in the flash memory, but completely UNACCESSIBILE on the device itself. No clue. My dear hubby got this for my birthday 2 weeks ago - we have the Best Buy receipt and I'm taking it back today and keeping the cash or maybe will try an IPOD or minidisc. The directions in the manual are completely a JOKE, and from what I've read the customer service will be equally laughable. This is a defective product -do not buy.

Summary: I love this player!
Review: (...)This player is great! What a fantastic design from a company I've never heard of before I got my hands on this player (Digitalway). The mp3 quality is the best I've ever heard. The songs sound perfectly crisp and clear, better than CD quality IMO. The radio is awesome becuase it lets you store 20 preset channels on it. Never used the personal recorder and I don't think I'll have to but it's good to know it's there. 128MB is enough to hold about 30 songs which is plenty for me. Good to know there's room for 256mb worth of future expansion. The radio feature alone makes it better than iPod IMO and for 1/3 the cost. The LCD display is great, it tells me everything I want to know and plays short videos when you turn on and off the machine. All this thing needs is a clock and alarm clock on it and it would rule the world.(...)

Summary: great design, suspect lousy support
Review: OK- here's the good news: lovely design for the most part. I use it fairly often and haven't noticed any stress problems after about 2 month's use. Here's the bad news: the company doesn't seem to care about customer comments except for 1 cute reaction; the customer community section on their wbsite has beem mysteriously down for an "upgrade" for a couple of weeks (they must think we're idiots). Doesn't look like they care about firmware upgrades for this model, and their firmware is always released in a beta state- buggy!Their manual is a joke - really substandard English. Bottom line- not quite ready for prime time. Spend the money if you don't mind changing your player in a year or two, or if you aren't sure if you really want an MP3 player.

Summary: an MP3 player with a life of only 3 months
Review: got my FL100 256 mb last December 2003 from J&R tru Amazon, installation is quite a breeze, I was quite happy with it at first - then last night - arrrg, I added 1 new song to my list and it froze, had to disconnect and connect the usb inorder for it to unfreeze - next was able to add the song and while transferring some song in order - it froze again!! Then it displayed error, so I had to reformat the internal memory - and now the power will not turn on - IT IS DEAD!! Whatever happened Digitalway??? I'll get an IPod next time!!

Summary: So far, Not sooo good
Review: I recieved this mpio mp3 player for my birthday a couple days ago.....i love all the features on it w/ the voice recorder..etc...when i got it i was excited to try it out, i read the instructions, then put the installation disc in the comp. and it wouldnt bring up anything to install the program...i know its compattable wiht my comp, because its a windows ME......well i hope it works, otherwise it is good
