Summary: Excellent photo printer
Review: This is a great photo quality printer. My husband is a professional nature photographer, and we now print photos that we sell framed in local galleries with this printer. But as the computer person in the family, I'm happy that the ink cartridges last a relatively long time for the number of prints. I printed about 50 5X7's, plus a bunch of a couple of hundred black and white documents on one set of ink cartridges.

Summary: Gosh this is a great printer!
Review: This printer is great! After reading reviews on this and others, I decided the take the plunge. The output is fantastic (especially on glossies). Though the ink seems to go rather quickly, I'm very happy with this printer and the output it produces (especially my 11x17 posters (maybe that's why the ink runs out so quickly))! (And when I called tech support, they answered within 2 or 3 minutes).

Summary: Overrated
Review: This printer is over rated! I have owned my Epson 1270 for 3 years. I am lucky if I printed 200 - 8 x 10's since then. It uses up way too much ink and then you have to replace the color cartridge at $35.00 because you ran out of ink on 1 color. The inks do not dry and the surface of the print is always sticky. You cannot stack the photo's on top of each other, as they will bleed the color to the backs of the other pictures or stick together. The heads are constantly getting clogged up and you waste more ink trying to clean them using the utilities that came with the printer. It printed great for the first few months that I owned it(still had problems with the ink drying). You cannot use Hewlett Packard photo paper in this printer as the wheels that push the paper thru the printer, form little cut dots into the photo and they appear as white dots. The inks smell and the quality is not as good as newer printers on the market. I was very disappointed in this printer as it was over-rated by photographers. Maybe the 1280 is better but you will still have the issues with the ink not drying. The inks are horrible as they splatter all over the inside of the printer. The cleaning pads get soaked up with ink and get on the rollers and then you have marking on your prints. Plus I had issues with using it with my new computer that had Windows XP, such as communication errors and very poor print quality overall. I ended up replacing it with the Canon i860 for $150.00. See my review under the Canon i860. Canon knows how to make a printer. Their inks come out dry and clean. As far as the Epson's, never again will I buy another Epson product.

Summary: Does not come with cable
Review: We like this printer, but were not aware it did not come with any cable. If you don't have a cable make sure you buy one on Amazon too, because we made a mistake and bought "Belkin 15FT IEEE 1284" at CompUSA for 3 times the price here. Setup was easy.

Summary: A must for scrapbookers
Review: We purchased the 1270 for its reproduction quality and have not been disappointed. Black and White and Color Glossy's, plus color mattes look wonderful. To get the most out of the printer you have to almost go through the preferences each time you print. For example making sure that grey-scale/black and white printing are both clicked in the printer preferences, or your B&W stuff will have a tint to it. Photoshop LE is bundled but does not include a printed users guide (buy Photoshop 6 for Dummies, it makes sense of everything) and should be noted. Color ink cartridges do go quickly but when you're as heavy into scrapbooks as my wife and I are you expect that. If you're doing archival at home, this is the ticket. It'll soon be replaced by a model 1280.

Summary: Awesome Printer!
Review: Wow, I got this printer yesterday and I'm really impressed. Ihad an old HP 660C printer before. I was really happy with how easyit was to set up, and the ink cartridges drop in real easy andperfectly. Everything feels like really good solid quality. Forregular black text printing this printer is really fast and superquiet. I was really impressed.

It prints pictures really nicelike regular photos. Although learning to use the Adobe Photoshopincluded is a bit of a learning curve. And the first couple 4X6photos I tried to print I had the orientation wrong and messed themup. Trying to figure out which way the picture has to be to printtakes some trial and error. I think I got it worked out now.

Theonly bad things are: that when you want to print envelopes you have totake out all your paper and feed the envelopes. With the HP you couldfeed paper and envelopes simultaneously. However the old HP I hadreally sucks compared to this thing. Also what does it take to throwin a USB or parallel cable into the box. Luckily I had a spare USBcable, but they should ship the printer with everything you need. Itcomes with ink, why not a cable? Another drawback is the printer ispretty large and takes up a good amount of space. But all thesethings are pretty minor, the printer really is awesome.
