Rating: Summary: Excellent Photo Printer Review: As a professional photographer, I've been very impressed with this line of Epson Printers (sister to the 870 and 875DC). The quality of printing is outstanding. The prints rival what I've done on my Fuji 3000 or Kodak LED printers. With longevity of 9-10 years for Epson's glossy and 24-26 years with the specail Heavy-Weight Matte (the Matte paper is somewhat like cardstock), it's an outstanding choice for non-critical printing like proofs or promotionals pieces. And to top that off, it prints everything else a printer is used for.It was very easy to setup and get printing on and the best thing of all is that the color has been very true to the file we send it. Overall, this printer is simply amazing.
Rating: Summary: a very fine photo printer Review: As an IT administrator for an engineering firm, extremely high quality is a total concern. Working with some of the most detail oriented people in the world, I have to be absolutely positively sure that all of my purchases meet or surpass expectation levels of incredible standards. This one passed. No one could tell which photo in my travel albums were Epsoned or Emulsioned. I have purchased the HP890Cse in the past and that printer was stunning for its time. However, we have found that with all HP inks, the colors shift badly under standard office lighting in just under a year. Luckily, the documents from the 890 were not reprographic runs involving digital photos. Forget that if I have to redo my photo album every year. This is a dirty little secret that you must pay attention to when purchasing any photo printer - IS IT LIGHTFAST? HOW LONG IS IT LIGHTFAST? WHAT THE HELL IS LIGHTFAST? etc etc... The 1270 uses inks that are rated for 25 years. This translates to 15 REAL years in the REAL world with REAL people. Other features of this printer include tabloid size prints and ink level status on the properties menu. If you're screwey enough like me, you'll find a way to reset the out-of-ink parameter on the carts and also a way to print stunning photos using KODAK and HP PAPERS as well as Epson's. I have dropped this printer from a table and wrenched jammed paper out with metal pliers (actually it was cardboard). It functions as if brand new ... well, almost new .... relatively speaking that is ..... sort of ..... you know ..... OK it sounds like it has asthma now. The only real problems I ran into is that Autocad plots do not print correctly using the default system printer parameter and only one page at a time can be sent if the 1270 is connected to an ethernet print server with no bi-directional capability. EPSON PROGGIES - PLEASE REWRITE YOUR DRIVERS. For truly amazing prints that SURPASS 35mm emulsion prints, check out Epson's Pro 5500. Its a printer that uses a new DX3 print head with drops that cannot be seen with the naked eye. I would not dare drop this one.
Rating: Summary: Beware of upgrading to Windows XP ! Review: BEWARE! DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN! I have had my 1270 since Aug. 2001 and it has worked exceptionally well and produced award winning prints. I would have rated it 5 stars until I made the mistake of upgrading my system from Windows 98 to Windows XP. I had visted the Epson site to make sure they had a download for Windows XP, 1270 drivers. Sure enough, they did. What they didn't say, is that the printer really won't work at all satisfactorily after the conversion to XP and after downloading and installing the two programs from the Epson site. After three support emails, and, in their favor, receiving three quick answers with instructions on how to overcome the problems my printer was having, it still does not work. And, trust me, I followed the instructions to the "T". Why would Epson put the download on their site without making sure it would work? Entirely unsatisfactory experience. BEWARE! DO NOT UPGRADE FROM WINDOWS 98 TO WINDOWS XP IF YOU WANT YOUR 1270 TO WORK PROPERLY EVER AGAIN!

Rating: Summary: My experience with the Epson Stylus1270 Ink Jet Printer Review: I absolutely love the great pictures this printer will print. Since I owned it I have printed all my photos for contests and exhibits with it and have received recognition and awards. Sure saves a lot of money at the photo lab! The reason I cannot give this printer a 5 is that the plastic clamps which are used to install the color cartriges are very flimsy. The clamp holding down the color cartride has now broken off and I have to use tape to hold the cartridge down and in place. A crude method for such a sophisticated maschine.

Rating: Summary: It doesn't need to get any better Review: I am a professional artist with 30 years under my belt, and I have been using the 1270 to make reproductions of airbrush originals. The combination of inkset and matte paper produces a result that looks just like the original, and matches any fine arts lithograph I have ever seen. Couple that with the ability to manipulate my own images electronically, and all the hassels with photo labs, service bureaus and middlemen is a thing of the past. A little expensive to run? Not compared to the cost of taking it all somewhere else. This thing works.
Rating: Summary: My eyes are amazed! Review: I am a professional artist. I have had this printer for about a year now. And the images that it prints out are outstanding. I print images ranging from digital photos off my Olympus C4040, to scans from artbooks, to simple B&W text pages. But I should be using my cheapo HP for simple BW text and conserve the heads and ink. I recommend a second cheap printer for simple prints. If I wanted a larger print from an artbook. I would scan a favorite artist's drawing from the book (8"x11") and scale it big in Photoshop and then print it large (13"x18") to put in my frame to hang over my chimney. Drawings hold up better then photos when scaling. Being a digital artist, my printouts from this printer are so professional looking. The results from this printer accents the work that I produce instead of degrading it. I get better print outs at home then in the art dept at my company. Just recently, the company purchased the 1280 model. Thank You! I have recieved many compliments about the photos and artwork on my walls. And the people are shocked when I tell them its from an inkjet printer. They always ask which printer and how do they get one. Only negative thing is the amount of ink it consumes and the cost of replacement. Plus the need to run some utilities to clean the heads because of lines and gaps in the print. But it's not a big deal. This is the best printer for the money.

Rating: Summary: Extremely Good Picture Quality but durability is a question Review: I had this Epson 1270 for 18 months and the picture quality that it has given is extremely good. There is no doubt that this is one of the best inkjet photo printers around today at the price. Recently, it bombed out and will not print at 1440 dpi. Red ink horizontal bands are printed with the photo quality print out, however, normal low resolution printing is okay.
