Rating: Summary: An incredible printer, not just for the price, incredible! Review: Wow, I picked this up based on the Amazon feedback and am not disappointed at all. I'm a pretty jaded computer user, and was not a fan of a longer ago Canon I had, but after my Lexmark died on me and it was time to upgrade, I gave this one a shot. Easy to install, and without a doubt, there's absolutely fantastic true photo quality prints from this. Get yourself some glossy photo paper and print your high res photos on it, and you will not be disappointed. The speed is incredible as well. I laughed in amazement at the speed that simpler text with minimal pictures came out. And a full size highest quality photo print came out in less than a minute. There's absolutley no smudging and when you put your eye next to the pictures, you'd be hard pressed to complain about the studio quality. The software that comes with it makes it really easy to package photos, too, enabling you to choose, let's say 4 photos to print in unison on the same page with the borders already set in. It's a great printer for a novice that wants something easy to use, or a performance nut like me that expects extremely high quality. It comes with ink so you can wait a bit to buy some on your own. You'll just need to get your own USB cable, but those are easy enough to snatch up. Way to go, Canon!
Rating: Summary: Very Pleased & Happy Review: I bought our Canon S520 online with Amazon.com and was very pleased with the entire process. The printer is top notch and prints a beautiful picture in good time. I have had a couple of other printers before this and I will have nothing but Canon from here on. The Canon S520 is well worth the money and produces a top quality product.
Rating: Summary: ...fast, and high-quality Review: I bought the Canon S500 to replace an Epson Stylus Color 740 which died on me. In comparison to the Epson 740, the Canon is a superior product in most ways. First, the black and white output quality is laser printer good without any smudging of text. Next, the ink tanks are...individually replaceable. And so far, they seem to be lasting longer than the Epson tanks, which went pretty fast. The Canon's self-cleaning process does not take as long and is less frequent than the Epson, which can make you wait for a couple of minutes. Third, the Canon printer can turn on and off automatically, so I never have to press its power button! This is disabled by default, but I find it so convenient! Finally, this printer is fast! B&W output is slightly slower than the Epson but still very fast, and in color output, this speeds way past the Epson. You almost never have to wait for any printout. The only area where the Epson exceeded the Canon is in photo-quality color output. The Epson has a slightly more natural color balance, and looks absolutely gorgeous on photo paper. The Canon is merely good. All in all, a terrific home printer unless you plan to print a lot of digital photos. Plus it has Mac OS X drivers!
Rating: Summary: Great printer at this price Review: ... It took about 5 minutes to set up the printer. I printed some pictures on supplied 4x6 glossy paper. The qality is just amazing. I couldn't make out any difference between a lab developed picture and the one I printed. The printer is kind of noisy and shakes my whole desk when it prints but much less than the HP682c it replaced. Overall I love it and the ink is probably be the cheapest in this category. It would have been nice if Cannon supplied the $2 USB cable with the package.
Rating: Summary: Top of the price/performance curve Review: This printer was delivered on 6/17. I guess I was lucky, because the the expense seems to have gone up slightly (guess thats how [the reseller] is paying for free shipping on orders > 49). But even if it was 150 bucks, this printer would still be a winner. Canon is smart: their ink cartridges have no electronics on them (unlike some of their competitors), so replacing them is very in expensive. Also, it seems more simple and elegant inside. It "feels" (and sounds, when in operation) like a quality design. Printing quality: Great I printed a 4X6 color on photo paper that was incredible. Black print on normal letter is more than adequate in quality and blindingly fast. The ink dried instantly on both. Installation/first impressions: Great Installation was a piece of cake. The Canon photo software that comes with it is excellent also. Much better than I would expect for an included software package. Only caveat: This printer does not ship with a USB or Parallel cable. So, remember to add a USB cable to your basket.
Rating: Summary: Worth the Price Review: This was a breeze to set up and the photos look great. It is a bit noisy and not quite as quick as my previous Canon but I like the control I have over options. Glad I took the advice of the reviews and purchased this S520. It is a great printer for not much money.
Rating: Summary: Six Days Use - I anticipate better in future. Review: For several years I've used a Canon BJC2114 with satisfaction. I could write a decent looking letter or report, E-mails were legible, and the color projects were okey +. I was looking for much better in the S520. I'm using the Parallel cable that I had with the BJC2114, and I don't know if I need the UBS cable to develope more speed. Color Photos take forever now, just as long as the old printer. Also I can't seem to get the envelope to print properly, although it may not be the fault of the printer. I use Word Perfect and maybe that's where I need help. As it is the return address is in the lower left hand corner. and the addressee is on its side toward the right center. Help
Rating: Summary: piece of junk Review: i did a little research before buying it but it isn't worth the money. the color prints are really average and is not really a photo printer. the text document are okay. the paper tray really [is bad]. Just don't waste your money buying this printer
Rating: Summary: VERY pleased w. product Review: I totally recommend this printer - totally. I'm loving it. I was looking for an inexpensive color printer that would do nice photos - and I got one with this printer. I'm very, VERY pleased w. this purchase. The printer was easy to hook up, the printer set-up was easy to install on the computer, and the quality of what I'm printing? Excellent. I'm printing a lot of photo stuff..., and the results are good - real good. The colors are bright, the speed good. Black text printing is VERY fast - especially when I compare it to the printer I'd gotten 6 or 7 years ago (one that cost more than $600 back then!) - and again, the quality is excellent. I've read that this printer, for some, is a little noisey on start-up. Ah - I guess it's a little noisey, but the "chugging" noise only lasts several seconds, then it's done. I can live with that. Any "down" comments to make on this? Not a one. Maybe months down the road my story will change, but right now? This is one TERRIFIC printer.
Rating: Summary: I found one after 2 months of searching Review: I have to say that I was quite impressed by the canon s520. I spent 2 months reviewing and researching all the other printers, HP, Epson etc and for the price range canon s520 topped the lot. I was going to buy the s750, but I couldn't afford it, so for a midrange price, the canon s520 is the top in it's league. The installation went like a breeze, canon made the instructions simple enough that a 10yo could install the thing, although there's not enough instructions for the additional software that came with it(the photo imaging software), the default was the 3 options were all selected, but I wanted only to install the necessary, in the end I installed all 3 products. The pluses are: - one of the cheapest printers to run in cents per page, Epson c80 also matches canon s520, but the Epson costs...more to purchase in the first place - fast efficient printer - colour printing is unreal - separate ink tanks, for ink saving and cost efficiency, unreal! I looked at the other printers that had separate ink tanks, and the prices to purchase those printers, were way above my budget. - it's not that noisy as other printers Although this is my first colour printer, I was amazed at how close the colours were to the real thing. I've been printing out digital photo pics. Black and white text, perfect. I used standard ordinary paper, there was no blotching, no smudging or anything. Some things I noticed that was a bit annoying: - when it prints it shakes the whole table, I have a wooden table, and it's pretty sturdy, when I'm printing while typing away on my keyboard it feels like a mini-mini earthquake. - it takes about 10 seconds plus to initialise the print. The printer makes all these wizzing noises, and you have to wait a while before the first page shoots out, but then it's lightning fast. - oh yes the power cable is short as, it's about the length of two keyboards if not shorter. I had to buy an extension lead. I would have given it a 5star except those 2 points, did annoy me. "You can on a Canon, really it's true"
