Rating: Summary: A Thing Of (Quiet) Beauty Review: After a lot of research, I decided to purchase the Epson Stylus Photo 960 as my first inkjet printer. I'm a web designer who also likes to take digital photos. But until I saw this printer at a trade show, I prefered to just email images. I didn't want to worry about the color matching, the dots or the noise I came to associate with most inkjet printers. Well, I didn't have to worry about any of that with this printer. For one, the color is just beautiful. Second, you would be hard pressed to see any dots (they're like 2 picoliters, which must be microscopic from my observation). And third, this baby is QUIET!!!Mine just arrived yesterday and I'm still experimenting with various types of images, settings and papers. But I have to tell you: I'm very happy with my new personal photolab. It's the perfect accessory for my new 5 megapixel digital camera. And even images from my old 2 megapixel digital camera still look stunning in 4x6 size. I'm looking forward to seeing what else this printer has to offer, like the CD/DVD printing capability and ability to print on thicker papers and cardstock. (Of the few papers I've used thus far, the Epson Heavyweight Matte seems to be my favorite. The Epson Heavyweight Matte is gorgeous too, but I prefer my most of my images to shine without the gloss.) This is the beginning of a beautiful relationship...between a designer and his printer.
Rating: Summary: GRAPHIC & GREETING CARD DESIGNER APPLAUDS THIS ONE Review: As a Graphic deigner I am an Epson fan, having owned a 740i for years. After reading the reviews about the Epson Photo Stylus 960, I was hooked but cautious. When it arrived, I was leary. The machine looked menacing. I now call it " Darth Vador". There it sits on my desk performing the most fantastic meneuvers. It's also very quiet. It signals when I have goofed and lets me redo a task in mid printing. Wow! That's really neat. It prints best in the rgb color profile. The colors are rich. Purple is better than most machines I have printed on.Yellow is bright and the Black to gray tones are just fine!. I have used it to print everything from greeting cards, announcement, mailing lables and wedding invitations for my clients to CD disk lables and Jewel Box covers, with excellent results. In the first months of ownership majenta and yellow were hard to get but that has impproved with all color cartridges avalible from several sources . I would recommend this printer without resevations.
Rating: Summary: 1 and 5 Review: For all intense and purposes, this printer should receive a 5, but because of Epson's BS, I can only give it a 3. First, the high marks: Picture quality. This printer prints out the most amazingly quality photographs I've ever seen a printer print. The colors are as realistic as if one were looking at the actual subject of the print and not a photograph. Quick drying, too. Truly astounding. Now the reason for the low score: In printing photographs, unless you use Epson paper - and only Epson paper - your pictures will look awful. Grainy, blotchy, one dimensional. Why must the user of this printer be forced to use strictly Epson paper? Why can't I use HP or Kodak high quality gloss paper and get the same fine print with those brands as I did with my previous Epson printers? It's just not right! What if, God forbid, Epson should change chemicals on their gloss paper or, worse yet, go out of business? Looks like the purchasers of the 960 will be SOL. And why, oh why do the computer and office supply stores carry ink for every printer but the 960? I can tell you right now that when the time comes to purchase another printer, I will think twice and do more research before getting another Epson product.
Rating: Summary: Digital Photo Pro Review: I am co-Owner of an action sports photography company, Primoshots.com, and we recently started on-site printing at various events. The Epson 960 is a great piece of equipment. It produces quick, color-rich photographic prints that rival our usual Photo Lab. The independent ink tanks also make this machine more cost effective, and the availability of Epson Photo Papers is especially nice. The only downside with this printer is its size. If the machine is going to be stationary in your home/office/studio it is perfect. On the other hand, it is a bit of a pain to tote this printer and all of its add-on pieces from event to event.
Rating: Summary: Not ready for prime time! Review: I bought this printer 2 weeks ago.I though it would be nice to print on my cds. While it does a great job printing,it is more trouble to keep running than any printer I have owned(50+).I have to run a head cleaning each day, since without doing so I have NO black!... Take a word of advice,go with [brand]!
Rating: Summary: Awesome photo printer Review: I bought this printer when I started doing digital photography artwork. The quality is EXCELLENT, absolutely stunning. I am ecstatic with the quality! I've had this printer for over a year and have had no problems at all. The replacement ink is not available at my local stores, so you'll have to order online. That's the only downside I can think of with this great printer. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this printer Review: I bought this printerr in Dec. 2002 and have had few good pictures since. The printer leaves ink blobs on 2 out of 5 prints. I have to run the Clean Heads utility every other time I print and that doesn't always solve the problem. This makes printing expensive when one considers the wasted ink and paper. Also in addition to the ink blobs on pictures I am unable to buy replacement ink cartridges locally or on-line. I'm at my wits end, it really takes the fun out of printing photos.......... When I do get a clean picture, it is beautiful, but not worth the effort. This printer is also incrediably slow, much slower than I expected, but I could live with that if the finished product was blob-free. I have tried to contact Epson without any luck, they don't respond to my e-mails to their tec-support address.
Rating: Summary: Epson products need work Review: I have almost always bought Epson printers for use with my Mac because I felt that the quality of the prints were great when the printer worked properly. The problems are unfortunately, numerous. First and formost with the 960 is the fact that local stores do not carry ink cartridges for it and when the printer runs out of ink, it won't print. In this regard, Epson forces you to keep a big stock of cartridges so you don't get stuck. This is problematic when all you want to print is a fax that uses only black ink but because your Light Cyan cartridge is out you can't print anything. The cartridges are insanely expensive as well and they don't last long. I might add that printing on CDs and DVDs is a hit and miss affair. Registration is haphazard. And try printing on the silver printable discs. Impossible. The ink just bleeds. And the ink sometimes "wrinkles up" on the white printable discs when it dries. Epson just doesn't have the bugs worked out on this one. Also, the printer drivers don't get updated soon enough to keep up with Macintosh OS upgrades. Epson software also often conflicts with just about everything from scanners to Photoshop to MS Word. After reading other people's comments on Epson products, I'm considering moving to another brand of printer. Epson printers are just too high maintenence.
Rating: Summary: The Best! Review: I have been using this printer for almost a year now, and love it! Coupled with my Canon G3 I can print out pictures that rival anything I have gotten from photo developers. While I agree that using Epson paper does seem to work the best, I have used other brands with varying sucess, especially after using color matching software to calibrate my scanner, monitor, and printer together. What I see in my camera, is what I see on the monitor, and what is printed on the printer! For the price you can get it now, you can't beat it!
