Summary: Good Printer w/ the right paper
Review: At first I was taken aback by the output quality of this printer. It had been described in the press as being the best but was borderline horrible and much worse than my old Epson 740 inkjet. Tons of pixelation and overall poor quality. That was with kodak and epson paper. I bought canon paper and the output became very impressive. The speed isn't good, but with the right paper the output is nice and the ink is cheap and longlasting. Still I don't think the output quality is much better than my Epson C60. Overall a solid buy with the current discounts.

Summary: Great Printer!
Review: I bought this one as an early Christmas present for myself! Wasn't much concerned about text printing, as this one will only be used for photos anyways....and the photos turn out great! Software installed with ease, and some nice tools are included in the package for album pages, etc. I've used some other higher priced ink jet photo printers, and the quality to me was the same or even better with this one. It's also very quiet. But, best of all, you don't need to sell your house to buy ink for this thing! LOL You replace ONLY the color that runs out...an idea that the other makers need to really listen to!

Summary: Better prints than darkroom.
Review: By now you've read the other complimentary reviews of other users. I am a darkroom photoprinter from the "old days" and I never had better results (or as easy) with regular photopaper. The output from two different digital cameras is stunning (3.1 megapixel) The question of various print media problems threw me in deciding to buy, but I have now used both Canon's and Kodak's paper with startling results - although print settings for these two papers differs -- you must use Kodak's or Canon's recommended settings for Kodak papers. Printer cost of $$$with $$$ rebate at [local store] makes it excellent buy. Kodak Premium paper right now at [local store] is $$$ for 100 sheets. Whoops this won't help Amazon in [local store] sales areas. Might be better printers but that would be hard to believe.

Summary: Don't buy an inkjet printer. Go to Costco minilab.
Review: It works well with Canon papers but not HP or Kodak. I heard Epson paper works fine with it but I haven't test it. ...I don't see the future for photo inkjet printer.

Summary: Exceeds expectations
Review: This is a dynamite printer. It prints better than my Hi Ti dye sub 4x6 printer and it prints full sheet to boot. You don't need to spend more than this. for best results, use canon ink and canon photo paper pro. You won't use commercial services once you see what this baby can do. I have to say it has exceeded my expectations.

Summary: Excellent Photos...
Review: This is THE printer for the home photo hobbyist. It produces photos every bit as good as it's big brother, the S900. The S900 is a wee bit faster, but the quality is identical on both. Unless you're a speed freak, save the [money] and go with the S820. You can use the extra savings for ink cartridges!

Summary: it is hard to colorsync the print and screen
Review: I have had this s820 printer for several month. In general, I like the output of the printer. Photos are look very smooth, not grainy. But color does not seem to be strong enough, look either too dark or too pale (if you increase the brightness of the photo on the computer). I am part time painter. Sometime, I took pictures of my paintings. Then I try to print the prints of the paintings with this printer. I have hard time to matching the color I saw on the screen and the output of the printer. I read several colorsyc articles and try all the cheap method, still couldn't do it very well. The things I haven't done is to buy several hundred dollors or even thousand dollors equipments to calibrate the screen and printer. The other thing I don't like is that no good matte paper availble for the printer. I have been using Epson heavy Matte paper. The prints look darker than Canon high resolution paper. The prints from canon high resolution paper looks closer to the screen than Epson matte paper. But Canon high resolution paper is very thin and look cheap. I don't use Photo paper Pro for art work because of too much glossiness. For the photo, Photo paper Pro works well.

Summary: Call me insane, but this is tremendous quality for 200 bucks
Review: Ok, I admit it...I haven't bought a new computer and printer for quite some time, but I am a demanding photography hobbyist always looking for my next photo gadget. Maybe if I quit spending money on cameras I could buy a real computer. Yes, a good idea...so I bought a new Dell PC on a back to school special a few weeks ago. I hand-picked this printer to go with it. Yes, I could have picked any printer and expected to pay more but after a ton of research, this was the one. Priced at roughly $200, I couldn't believe the value. Amazon[.com]'s price was almost $100 cheaper than my local Circuit City or Staples. Hooked it up last weekend - took 10 minutes max and I even installed a brand new USB 2.0 card to expand my ports. Love the individual ink tanks...not having to replace colors that haven't gone out is great for the wallet and the environment. The individual cartridges can be replaced for $11.95 and were available at my local Office Max. I did have to play around with the printer settings. I bought both Canon (at canon's site) and Kodak paper (at Sams club) and started figuring it out. I have a Minolta 4MP S404 and an Epson 2450 scanner. The first photos printed on the Kodak paper were grainy and very non-photo like. Good news followed after about 2-3 attempts with different print settings. The result, virtually photo perfect prints from the Minolta S404. Stunning and unbelievably fast. Best news, the Canon lets you save the perfect print settings once you discover what works the best. Thank goodness, without this "profile" feature I would go nuts. It was harder to get the same output from my scanner but I upped the scan resolution above 600dpi and the photo print quality has outperformed my wildest expectations. The result is a near perfect copy of the original. It might be me, but I can't figure out how to make the 4x6 (Kodak paper) work. I have been printing on the larger 8x11 paper and slicing the final photo to size. Also, I got nearly same quality from Kodak and Canon paper with the right settings. For the price, the Kodak paper is a winner with this printer. Bottom Line: Would buy it all over again, fast, and tremendous output quality for the money. Cons: Only downside was fooling around with the print settings and saving the print profiles to get consistently good results.

Review: I installed this printer right after I got it. It works great!! The photo quality is so good compared to other photo printers I used before. NOw I can print the photos as often as I can.
