Summary: Canon S820 Photo Printer
Review: I have had this printer for about six months. It is awsome! Very clear photos, just as good as a developer. I was able to find an inexpensive 4x6 paper that works great for 10 cents a sheet. This is a great printer and extremely inexpensive to operate. The ink cartridges are also available on the internet for very little money. So far after printing over 135 pix, I have not had the need to change any of the colors. The Canon paper is high cost, about 50 cents for a 4x6.

Summary: Great picture quality on Canon photo paper
Review: After reading all kinds of the reviews, I decided that this printer will fit my needs for its price. I knew from other reviews that the best result you will only get with Canon photo paper, and that's true (that's why I gave it 4 stars). It prints brilliant photos on Canon Photo paper. You don't have to buy the most expensive one "Canon Photo Pro", you can buy a cheaper one, "Canon Photo Paper Plus", it's cheaper, affordable and good enough for me. I've also tried printing on some "cheap" paper and, as I expected, the result is not very good.
I think it's the good printer for its price.

Summary: Impressive Output
Review: I don't own this printer - but a friend does. This printer is way way better than similarly priced epsons and HP's. Using the right media and settings, the photos printed on gizmo will blow you way.
However, I decided not to purchase this printer when I found that costco will print 4X6's and 8X12's (off digital media) for rather low prices in their one hr photo lab. I can always do the cropping/balancing at home, take the CD-R to them - and get a huge numbers of prints - just for the cost of owning this printer. And I am not even factoring the cost of media and ink in the equation!

Summary: DON'T COMPLAIN ABOUT THE PAPER
Review: I just want to tell u guy about the paper. Canon pro is excellent and the kodak paper is the same. The trick is u have to set the driver a bit. U can find it on the kodak website, what the heck, i'll just do u guys a favor and save u a trip.change the ~Media Type to Plain Paper when uing kodak paper

Summary: Big bang for the buck
Review: I bought this printer about a month ago and have been very happy with it. The S820 is very easy to set up. The photo-print quality is excellent, especially when you consider the price of this model. Sure, you can spend a lot more for a photo printer. But the law of diminishing returns applies, meaning you're going to be paying hundreds more for just a little bit better print quality. I should mention the S820 does not come with a printer cable, so you'll have to factor that into the total cost. If you want to save a little more money, I would recommend using Canon Photo Paper Plus. It generally costs less than Photo Paper Pro and the print quality is almost as good.

Summary: Canon S820 bit the dust just after warranty expired
Review: I purchase the Canon S820 (for close to ...[undisclosed dollar amount])when it was first introduced in late March of 2002. Two weeks after the warranty expired...it bit the dust. I had a Canon bubble jet printer prior to purchasing the S820 and had a similar experience.

Summary: Great Quality!
Review: I have owned 2 other CANON printers (BJC600 and BJC6000)and recently purchased this one. Both are still working and the BJC600 is about 7 years old. I will never buy anything other than these until other companies realize we do not have unlimited funds to spend on ink cartridges. On most of Canon's products the separate ink cartridges only cost $11-12. Compare this to a HP printer that will cost $50 or more for a replacement when the rest of the colors are not used up!
The output of this printer is fantastic. You cannot tell the difference from a film printed picture. It takes a little tweaking to get the picture to look the same as on the screen but it is worth it. The recommended Canon ink is also rated 25 years for color fastness. The Canon 6x4 glossy paper gives the best picture and found 50 packs for $13. The price has been getting lower on this one so if you see it, BUY THIS PRINTER!

Review: I honestly could not tell the difference between developed pictures and the ones that the S820 can print! Great use of ink. Lots of features for not a lot of money.

Summary: Good prints
Review: Since this printer uses 5 color cartidges + 1 black, the printed pictures are superior to normal inkjets that use only 3 color cartidges (and frankly do not replicate human skin tone that well). It is relatively fast, super easy to setup, and easy to maintain. Also the colors are excellent and smooth and the printer seems to be able to render a large number of color shades. However, (1) when I print pictures on Canon's recommended 4x6 paper, the borders are almost never equally sized (eg, the left border is slightly wider than the right border). I realize that printing borderless pictures is a solution but I like borders.
(2) Sometimes the image is not aligned on the photo paper.
(3) it is quite difficult to match my monitor colors with the printer which proves frustrating when editing. Canon doesn't provide a ICC profile for this printer.
Overall if you are looking for a photoprinter for everyday prints, this is great start esp at current prices. But be aware of some weaknesses that are present in this printer and to be fair in most consumer-based photoprinters.

Summary: Really impressive picture quality
Review: I get a new ink jet printer every two years or so, and this is the first time I can honestly say the printer pictures look as good to me as pictures from a photo lab. I got Canon's 2 megapixel Elph camera for Christmas, and decided to go with the Canon printer in January since the software for the two products is basically the same. I have been using both the Canon photo pro and Canon photo plus paper and have been extremely pleased with the quality of pictures on both. I did try the less expensive Compusa generic borderless photo paper, which did not work well at all. I will stick with the Canon photo paper from now on.
Set up was simple and fast. But, it is kind of a pain that a printer cable is not included. Software has also been very straightforward - I have yet to open the manual. I would recommend this printer (and the Canon Elph camera) to anyone looking.
