Summary: almost perfect
Review: i got one of these printers for my birthday last week. since, i've printed about 15 8x10 photos and 3 5x6 photos. all of them are exceptional quality and i haven't had any problems with ink clogs or anything of the sort.i did a bunch of research on this printer before getting it. it was inexpensive and most people went on and on about the astounding quality of the prints it produces. they also said it uses up too much ink and it's a bit too slow and noisy. ink. of course it sucks up ink! look at what you're getting out of it. nearly flawless reproductions of your photos. after print out all that i have, i still have almost the whole black cartrige full and the color cart isn't even half used. i'd say that's acceptable... people also complain about the inability to refill individual colors in the color cart. i've printed out both black and white and vivid color photos with it and it seems that the ink levels for all 5 colors are just about the same. so when one color runs out, it's likely that all the other colors will too. or at least be close. slow speed... i don't think it's particularly slow considering what you get out of it. it takes about 3-4 minutes to print out an 8x10 and maximum quality. nobody's in so much of a hurry that they can't deal with that. it's miniscule. it's not noisy, either. it makes sound, sure. and it's not a whisper. but it's nothing to complain about. i love this printer. i've gotten wonderfully clear text printouts and over a dozen beautiful photos printed... my only problem with it is you need to print out a few 'test' photos to try out different settings to see which works best for the type of paper you're using. i recommend ilford galerie classic pearl (available at any pro photo store) with an automatic setting printed for quality, not speed. stunning prints.

Review: THIS IS AN EXCELLENT PRINTER THE SOFT WARE IS EASY TO USE THE PHOTOS ARE LAB QUALITY....IT WILL PRINT BORDERLESS 4X6 5X7 AND 8X10......THE TEXT IS CRISP AND CLEAR ALSO......I TRIED A CANNON S300 AND A HP 3820 THEY DON'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO THIS QUALITY.......EPSON PAPER IS A MUST!!!!.I TRIED KODAK AND 2 CHEAP PAPERS RESULTS NOT GOOD........ Summary: A ROBBERY!!!!
Review: The worst printer I have had. I was able to print two pics without problem and never again. The head dries and you have to use the nozzle cleaner which basically consumes your ink. Epson engineered this product to make you spend your money in ink!!! I have never been able to get good quality print outs anymore. I clean the heads 3 times before it prints out so it comes out well but then, of course, i don't have any ink left. WORST THING IS that today I have ran out of color ink (trying to clean the head) and all I need to do is to print a school paper (in black and white) BUT IT DOESN'T LET ME because it requires me to spend the $40 in the color cartridge in order to print black. I AM EXTREMELY dissatisfied with the printer. WILL NEVER BUY EPSON AGAIN. And by the way, most of the positive feedback left before me look like full-blown lies put by sellers! or someone using the printer during the first day after purchase.

Summary: Horrible photo quality
Review: It seems that life is full of trade-offs. I have three printers: an HP DeskJet 1220C, an HP PhotoSmart 1115 and this Epson printer. While the DeskJet 1220C always jams with any paper heavier than plain white photo paper and paper that is not 8.5x11, 8.5x14 or 11x17, the PhotoSmart usually jams with any paper other than 8.5x11 photo paper. But the quality of the latter's prints is fantastic. So, having become frustrated with the lemons offered by HP, I bought this Epson. It prints text fast and clean and can handle cardstock and odd-shaped paper fine. However, the quality of the photos it prints, even on good photo paper with all the settings on "best" is unacceptable. Most of my prints of people are cast in a magenta glow, and there is pixelation galore -- it actually looks like a lizard's skin -- for fine black or brown detail of uncompressed TIFFs shot w/a 5 MP camera! Fiddling with the color controls helps somewhat, but this is annoying for everyday snapshots I want to print. The color ink cartridge that shipped with my printer was not working, but even with a new color cartridge, I still get poor quality photos compared to the PhotoSmart 1115. But at least the Epson doesn't jam! I'm still searching for a decent inkjet that doesn't jam and can print some vivid color photos. The two HP models and this Epson don't fit the bill.

Summary: Paradigmatic Printer Rip Off
Review: "Why should a zero-stars review be possible?" Epson Stylus Printers; I rest my case. Printer rip off perfected. Paradigmatic. Just take $150 and light a match to it rather than spend it on this. Save yourself the trouble of unpacking it and the insults of its pitiful performance. Or I guess you could buy it and drive it straight to the landfill if you can't stand to actually burn $150 in US Currency, which I think may be a crime anyway. So I guess the best advice is to simply not buy it.

Summary: High maintenance but good results
Review: I think the criticisms of this printer are unduly harsh. No, I would not recommend this printer to the casual user but if you're an enthusiastic photographer on a limited budget looking for more that 3 inks, this printer could be what you're looking for. I'm not going to deny that this printer sometimes clogs but there are precautions and fixes and it's an ink jet after all and clog is what ink jets do best. The first precaution is to turn the printer off when you're not using it. This will park the heads in a tray that helps to stop them from clogging. Despite this precaution, after a month of inactivity I do find the heads clogged sometimes when I return to the printer. In this instance I use a trick that will, no doubt, void your warranty but seems to work well without harming the printer; I press the button to move the heads into position for cartridge replacement. I then put a couple of drops of windex on the park tray pad and then turn the printer off so the heads go and sit on the windex for 5 minutes or more. When I go back to the printer I run check print head utility and the clean print head utility once (if required). Usually that takes care of any problems and I'm ready to go. I always use epson ink and high quality paper. I don't use the printer for anything but photos (I have a great hp laser for everything else). I have taken the time to color profile my monitor and I print my photos via photoshop letting it take care of the printer's color profile. I always use the highest settings available to print photos - yes, it takes a bit more ink, but the results are worth it. I estimate each 8.5x11 glossy print I do costs me a bit over a buck but the control and great results I achieve are worth it. I can even get pretty good and neutral B&W prints out of this machine using Epson's own driver set to monochrome (don't use the 'black ink only' option - let it use all the inks and the results are very good). I'm not advocating that you go out and buy this printer at this point (mid-2004) - there are now better options available. I am advocating that you don't give up on this printer so easily - it is worth investing a little time and effort in.

Summary: Echoing - A Waste of Ink!
Review: I have long been a fan of Epson printers. I have had four dating back to the original Epson Color Stylus. Tried an HP back then ('94) and had miserable results. Only reason I usually upgraded was to get better technology. I found this stream of poor reviews because I have become exasperated with cleaning the heads on this printer. I just printed out a color document (with text) just fine. Less than twenty minutes later and I couldn't print out B&W to save my life. Not so much as a drop of black ink on the page! I think the only way I'll be buying another Epson is if I can clean only the B&W, I don't need color to print B&W, and I read where they have improved the problems with the ink clogging. I hope you're listening Epson, because I used to always brag about you. Now I'm ashamed I have one!

Review: This has got to be the world's worst printer. It has terrible photo quality and it clogs after nearly every usage. I spend more time trying (and I mean trying) to clean the print heads than I do printing. Save your money and buy a typewriter. It would be less hassle.

Summary: the worst printer ever made
Review: this is without a doubt the worst printer i have ever used- right from the day i bought it. it never prints out the right color ink for anything. right now i have 1 color and that is blue.it's loud and the paper is always getting jammed. i also think epson tech support sucks to.... I thought in the beginning maybe it was me but it has a mind of its own. I will be throwing it away soon, and will never own another epson...

Summary: print head plugs up
Review: You spend all your time and ink trying to clean the print heads. Epson should refund our money for this one. Black and color plugs up without warning. It doesn't appear to matter how often you use it or how long it sets.
