Summary: What Happened???
Review: I just returned my S900 that had arrived DOA! Nothing I could do would get it to turn on. I couldn't believe it. Right out of the box. I decided for a refund rather than an exchange. I read about it's great photo printing but wasn't aware of the build quality. What now? Epson? My old HP Deskjet still works after 6 years of heavy printing but I'm not crazy about their lack of multiple ink tanks. I guess it's like owning a Jaguar vs. a Toyota. One is obviously sexier than the other but in the long run, logical choice is the one that spends less time in the repair shop.

Summary: A Great Printer
Review: I bought this printer after being disapointed by the quality of the photo printing from the HP Photosmart 1215. I am completely satisfied with this printer. The print quality is unbelievable! They look as good and clear as photographs from film. The set up was pretty simple. Be sure to use the Canon paper and ink to ensure the best quality output and to guard against premature fading of your pictures. Canon prints were independently tested, and the time before fading occurs was found to be about 25 years (similar to regular photos from film), while the HP and Lexmark printers did much worse.

Summary: Is the Canon S900 good for printing graphics as well?
Review: This isn't really a review, but a question - I am going to purchase a digital camera, but am primarily looking for a
good printer that will print both graphics as well as photos.
Has anyone printed graphics on this printer, and what have been the results...is it economical as far as ink consumption?

Summary: My Great Canon S900 Died!
Review: I originally gave the S900 a 5 star review back on March 16 and espoused the great photo quality prints. It doesn't print great photo quality prints anymore! As a matter of fact, it doesn't print anything anymore. I was in the middle of printing a page and it died. The printer just powered off and would not power back on. It is now being repaired at a Canon Authorized Service Center. (Note: Another reviewer had a similar situation which he posted on July 22).
Upon doing a little more research, I discovered that the printer has a waste ink tank that collects used ink from any print head cleaning that you peform under your routine maintanence to ensure consistent quality printing. Once this waste ink tank is full it needs to be replaced and is not user servicable. The printer will transmit an error message and will stop functioning until it is sent to a Canon Authorized Service Center for repairs. One would think the major cost to owning this printer was just the consumables, ink, paper, etc., so buyer beware.
I still think the print quality is great but I question the manufacturing quality.

Summary: Awesome print quality, especially on photo pro paper
Review: This printer is much better than the Epson Stylus 900 and C series. I printed a digital photo on Canon Photo Pro 4x6 paper and it looks unbelievably great. Prints great on glossy, matte and regular old white paper. Be sure to have/order a USB cable, as one doesn't come with it. Highly recommended!!!

Summary: An OK printer, but . . .
Review: I purchased the Canon S900 when it was still [more money]. I looked at a number of printers including HPs, Lexmarks, and Epsons as well as the other Canons. I decided on the S900 because of the Canon name, the individual ink cartridges and the reviews about the speed of this printer. It does print good pictures, a lot better than my old HP. However, after less than 3 months in service, the printer died on me. Error codes indicate a print head problem. Tech Support could only suggest taking it 30 miles to any authorized repair station but it will be repaired under warranty. When I pay top dollar for something, I expect it to last more than 3 months. I had that Hewlett-Packard for 5 years with no problems.

Summary: What a great printer
Review: Never being a fan of Canon products, I decided (after doing extensive research) to buy the Canon G2 digital camera. So far, I am extremely please despite the fact that it is bulky. I then needed to upgrade to a photo printer and decided to give the Canon S900 a try. WOW! I could not believe the quality of the photos. No more need to get photos developed. This printer does the job. It's fast, quiet and the fact that it uses 6 ink cartridges is economical. At first I had a hard time finding Canon brand photo paper. Other brands didn't do it justice, but Best Buy now carries the entire line. ... I highly recommend this printer to all digital camera owners. It can't be beat!

Summary: Not what it is hyped to be
Review: I purchased this printer last week and returned it the day I tried to use it. The print quality is poor and the Canon tech help was unable to attribute the poor quality to anything wrong with the printer or my computer. I had purchased the S 900 to replace my HP 990 cxi; the Canon produced visibly inferior prints with noticeable droplets up the center of the print. I kept the HP and returned the Canon. Think twice before buying-maybe find a store that carries both brands and compare.

Summary: You found it
Review: If you have been looking for a printer at this price range, stop! You have found it. Yes it is a bit pricey and priced close to dysubs but prints are perfect, just perfect. Even on [less expensive] papers. And did I mention that it is super fast? It impressed me by image quality and speed. If you have a decent camera (over 3.1MP) do not buy anything cheaper than this. This is it.

Summary: Incredible
Review: I've worked with a multitude of different color photo printers before- Epsons, HP, etc. But this Canon S900 is the first time, a printout made me go "Wow".

I actually gave this to my sister for a present. One day, I went into her room and picked up a 4x6 and asked when she got this developed and printed. She said it was a digital printout taken with her Canon S30 digital camera, printed on her Canon S900 on the provided 4x6 photo paper. I was simply amazed.
