Summary: Photo Excellence
Review: I just returned from a family vacation and had a bunch of picture files to process and print. I began the task on an older HP non-photo printer. The results were less than what I wanted. I did a little research on the i950 and made the leap.The picture quality from this machne is amazing! I've been making 4x6 borderless and 5x7's (on 8.5x11) all day. The color reproduction is extremely accurate and the representation of skin tones is outstanding. The results look as good if not better than from a 1 hour processing lab and I control the output. I couldn't be happier with my jump to digital photography and this printer is a key part of that satisfaction.

Summary: HATE IT!
Review: This is the fifth printer I've purchased, and the worst by far. While the print quality is good, the Canon software needs serious work. Supposedly, and according to Canon, the application should control the paper size and orientation (a no-brainer in my book), but I've had problems printing even from something like WordPerfect. Instead, you have to set up the printer properties with what type and size and media orientation you're trying to print. Every time you change media, you get to do that all over again. And, heaven forbid, you don't also adjust the paper thickness guide for the thickness of your media, you'll have to clear an error message for that... Then there's the delightful dialog box which pops up in the middle of your screen telling you you're printing. DUH. You'll need to minimize or close it in order to keep working. And if you run out of paper, you'll get it again, even though the printer will also flash an error message... After less than 48 hours, I'm tired of throwing away paper goods, tired of having to do so much work for so little... If you want to do virtually any editing, even sizing, you'll need to look to other software. I could have been much happier with something much less expensive, too--I don't see the price justification. I've made a terrible, terrible mistake...

Review: I really like the print quality of this printer, its just phenominal. However, i find myself not using it as much as i would have like because of the operating costs.

Summary: A very good printer
Review: I have found the i950 to be a very good printer. It is fast, quite and produces beautiful prints. I especially like the individual ink tanks which are clear (so you can see that they really are empty) and they do not contain a "killer" chip which would prevent you from refilling them if you wanted to. Certainly a step up from my previous Epson which constantly had clogged nozzles.
I too, however, had the "black bleeding into the yellow cartridge" problem after 18 months of moderate use. I thought it was some sort of contamination/growth so went thru 4 or 5 cartridges before finding out what the problem was. To Canon's credit, their tech help said they did not think it was contamination and was probably the printhead but could/would not explain why the problem occurs. Since the printer was out of warranty replacing the printhead was my problem.
Have just replaced the i950 with an i960 so will give Canon another chance. Hopefully they have the printhead problem solved. If anything, the 960 prints look better than the 950. Absolutely beautiful.

Summary: Good While it Lasted
Review: This was a very good printer, while it worked. After two years' moderate use, it began acting up. After arguing with it for too long, I realized that it was pumping black ink into the yellow cartridge. Every yellow I install ends up that way. Canon tech support advises that I needed a new print head at $80+. Forget it!
My next printer will not be a Canon. I'm mulling over running the printhead through the dishwasher or sormething like that. It probably won't take kindly to that sort of thing, but with nothing to lose...

Summary: Terrific printer!
Review: I am extremely impressed. I just purchased this printer to replace a Lexmark Z43. I just got a Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera to take to Italy for our honeymoon and when I began to print out images I came to the quick realization that the Lexmark was just not going to cut the mustard. I had really wanted the Epson R800 which is an exponentially more expensive printer. My fiance? said no way. So I was going to settle for the R300. Fry's Electronics had this bad boy on sale for $99.99 Factory Refurb. and the sales guy said I'd be foolish to pass this up. Got it home, unpacked it and had it printing within 20 minutes. The color saturation is amazing. I'm really glad I didn't spend the extra cash on either the R300 or the R800. The software is the same as what came with the camera and I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for any correction that needs to be done. Good job Canon!

Review: Do not buy this product. It has been a nightmare for us. Consistent problems with the paper feeding system.

Summary: Nightmare with paper feeding
Review: This printer is very nice in all respects -- except one big one -- which it has consistent problems recognizing there is paper in the tray. I have tried tech support, cleaning the feeders, etc. But it is now 6 months old and I'm done. I'm throwing it out to spare myself the misery. I hope you spare yourself the misery as well. Get something else.

Summary: Doesn't work well on a network
Review: First of all, I love the quality of the output of the printer BUT....it has problems on a network. I sent the following to their tech support:
"Printing across network is horribly slow. Small file takes 1 minute to BEGIN printing. HP printer on same network takes 15 seconds. The bigger the file the longer the time. Waited 45 mins for a very large doc to start printing!!!!! Even trying to access the printer properties from a computer on the network can take as long as a couple minutes. " They responded with this (direct quote from their tech rep): "Unfortunately, Canon does not support the i950 printer when connected within a network environment because of possible communications issues. The i950 is a bi-directional printer but the bi-directional communications is not guaranteed to function when communicating through network components such as routers and print servers."
