Rating: Summary: Lack customer support Review: Bought the i950 last spring and it worked great until Nov when everything came out with a blue or green cast. Tech support would not help since I had replaced the cartridges with compatible cartridges and not with the Canon brand. They would help if I replaced all the cartridges with their brand, With a cost of almost $80.00 for their cartridges I felt it just wasn't worth spending that much. The i950 is simply too expensive to maintain so I'm back with Epson.
Rating: Summary: Hate it -- paper feeding nightmares Review: Do not buy this product. It has been a nightmare for us. Consistent problems with the paper feeding system.
Rating: Summary: Nightmare with paper feeding Review: This printer is very nice in all respects -- except one big one -- which it has consistent problems recognizing there is paper in the tray. I have tried tech support, cleaning the feeders, etc. But it is now 6 months old and I'm done. I'm throwing it out to spare myself the misery. I hope you spare yourself the misery as well. Get something else.
Rating: Summary: Doesn't work well on a network Review: First of all, I love the quality of the output of the printer BUT....it has problems on a network. I sent the following to their tech support: "Printing across network is horribly slow. Small file takes 1 minute to BEGIN printing. HP printer on same network takes 15 seconds. The bigger the file the longer the time. Waited 45 mins for a very large doc to start printing!!!!! Even trying to access the printer properties from a computer on the network can take as long as a couple minutes. "They responded with this (direct quote from their tech rep): "Unfortunately, Canon does not support the i950 printer when connected within a network environment because of possible communications issues. The i950 is a bi-directional printer but the bi-directional communications is not guaranteed to function when communicating through network components such as routers and print servers."
Rating: Summary: a disappointment Review: Worked great for the first four months. Now I either have to spend $390 to get it fixed by Canon or throw it in the trash. Pretty frustrating.
Rating: Summary: Simply Great Printer Review: I bought this printer and have had great success printing 8x10's from scanned negatives and a 4mp digital camera. The printing speed is incredible, quality is great and ease of use can't be beat. You HAVE to use good photo paper, cheap photo paper makes things look grainy. I use ilford pearl galerie paper and cannot tell it was printed at home.
Rating: Summary: Five stars for improvement over prior generations Review: Okay, my turn. First I think this is a fabulous deal: the pictures, the quality, the basic economy on the ink, the build quality, the quiet operation, all are great -- unmatched & just a huge improvement over prior generations (I've owned a couple of Canon's and a couple of epsons color inkjets going back 6 years and basically gave up on color printing as not-ready-for-prime-time. This printer is definitely ready for prime-time.) Those were expensive lessons as they were basically given away! This printer has already paid for itself twice at least in business printing alone (hard to measure -- you get as many "proofs" as you have time for so you can experiment as much as you want.) This thing prints GORGEOUS flyers, business cards, you name it. Plus for example I just printed a ten-foot by three foot "wall" of photos (a montage) scanned and enlarged to size for my mother's funeral and it was very impressive. Great stuff. Now I am searching for an equivalent (TRULY) generic ink for refills as plain-paper printing is just too useful (much of the montage was on plain paper), and IT REALLY IS EXPENSIVE. It looks so great that the old duplex laser is just sitting. The paper feed works (bend do not fan it). No problems at all except for the ink costs -- which are probably something like five MILLION percent markup from the gallon size. The driver works reliably EXCEPT I am usually unable to RESUME if there's a paper outage. I have to shut the printer off and start over. The ink level indicator is cool though not precise. The little picture (preview) is just good enough to let you know you'll have a good print. That's about it. Combined with my G2 and epson scanner this is great. Congratulations Canon.
