Review: Years ago, I worked as a custom color printer, so I feel I have somewhat of a background in judging photo print quality. Hopefully the stability of the Canon photo paper pro media truly approaches 25 yrs, as Canon claims. This is good enough for me at this time. My prints are made for myself, and as gifts for my family and friends.....The output from this printer, with the 8.5"x11" photo paper pro, really impressed me right out of the box. I figured I would give it the acid test right away and try printing portraits. I don't have any professional color management, but the color was bang on, did a +13 intensity change in the print driver and I felt I had honest WYSIWYG work-flow!! Accurate flesh tones are critical in portrait printing and the printer nailed them. I didn't need the Canon supplied imaging software as I am a PSP 7 user, so I can't comment on Canon's efforts here. I printed 6x8" prints with 1" borders that are easily frameable, wall-hangable prints. I would have no hesitation in giving these prints as gifts to family and friends....

Review: Pros: Great photos, fast, quiet, USB 2, individual ink tanks, separate print heads Cons: No direct camera connection, Manual alignment, Without the right software and paper results are average at best, Software could be more intuitive and More detailed hard copy manual Summary: I have always loved Canon products (especially their cameras and lenses)and the Canon i950 lives up to the standard I expect from them: It is sturdy, reliable, attractive and--above all--delivers exceptional performance! I searched all over to try and find the Canon s900 because of the rave reviews it was getting, only to find out that it was discontinued. I am glad that I couldn't find one! With the release of the new i950 I feel that I can meet or exceed the quality of prints that I was getting from a professional photo lab. Set up was easy. It took me about 30 min. To load and figure out the software but after a few tweaks, I was printing breathtaking 8"x10" photographs of my daughter at the beach(from film negs that I scanned). It had beautiful skin tones, sharp detail and rich color depth. I would be proud to frame these photos, hang them on the wall or give them as gifts. I defy anyone to tell them apart from standard chem. processing. It is very important to use high quality photo paper (I am sticking with the Canon Photo Paper Pro). If you are interested in setting up a digital darkroom and saving $$ on processing over the long term,look no further than the Canon i950.

Summary: Fantastic Photo Printer
Review: I did a lot of research on photo printers and after reading the Amazon reviews, I decided to get this printer to print pictures off of my great Canon Powershot camera.
The picture quality is truly amazing and very comparable to what I've gotten from ofoto.com. The software is pretty easy to use and pictures seem to print with better quality off of the Canon Easy Photo software than they do with other applications like Adobe. One downside is that the software has a tendency to crop images too much and I haven't yet figure out how to fix this. The Canon Photo Paper Pro works best with this printer. Don't go for the cheap paper because it makes a big difference. Also, since the printer ink cartridges are separated by color, you can just buy the colors you go through the fastest, which is much more economical than having to get the all-in-one cartridges.
The negatives:
- It takes a while to print pictures, so don't plan on doing a big stack all at once.
- The printer doesn't come with a cable, which is totally bizarre, and BEWARE: Amazon.com DOES NOT CARRY THE RIGHT CABLE FOR THIS PRINTER. Even though you can buy it almost anywhere else, they don't have it. They sent me two different cables that were both wrong and I finally had to go to the drugstore and get the right cable.
Overall, the printer is the best I've seen for this price and it looks good too!

Summary: Excellent Photo Printer....so far
Review: I purchased this printer from Amazon.com back in March and have used it for photo printing and standard document printing (i.e. Word files, etc.) Setup: Very easy and intuitive. Just followed the instructions and I was printing in minutes (using a USB cable I bought at Staples) Software: The included software is very easy to use, especially the Easy-PhotoPrint package. The available options under the printer preferences make for flexibility that might otherwise only be available with editing software. Print Quality (photos): Simply astounding edge to edge prints and the machine is fast and quiet. I have used Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy for all my photo printing. If you are feeding the printer a good image, you'll have a difficult time distinguishing it from a traditional professionally developed photo. BUT...I have noticed some discoloration / fading in dark sections of some photos in as little as a couple of weeks. Areas of black have faded some and lost their contrast, sometimes looking like a very dark red. Not all photos have done this, so I'm waiting for an explaination from Canon (Images are off a Canon S45 Camera, using original Canon Inks and on Canon Photo paper) I'll update when I get a response (just emailed them today) Print Quality (documents): Very good, but a lesser printer would do just as well. Where this printer shines is with photos so if your usage will be more with text, you could save some money and be satisfied with a less expensive model. Paper handling: Good with standard paper and Canon photo materials. My only complaint with these types of materials is if you load one sheet (1 4x6 photo stock) it takes a few seconds for it to figure out that it needs to push the bottom edge of the feeder forward to feed the paper. It has had difficulty (frequent jams) with perforated card stock - i.e. for post cards. Avery material worked fine, but Staples brand constantly jammed - didn't have this problem with my old HP, but using the Avery brand avoids the problem entirely and doesn't cost any more. Ink: The multi cartridge design is excellent. You only replace what you use and they actually include one of every cartridge in the box. My black is just about out, so I would advise keeping a backup of at least that one. - only caveat is that fading issue I've encountered -

Summary: Quality output, limited paper options with Mac OS X
Review: I've had the Canon i950 photo printer for about six weeks now, running under Mac OS 10.2.6 with no problems. I have to agree with the majority of other reviewers on the output quality. This machine is outstanding and you have to see the prints to understand what I'm talking about. Best photo output I've seen. However, watch out for ink consumption, especially photo-cyan and photo-magenta. They run out 2-3:1 over the other colors. My bigest gripe, albeit small, is the limitation on paper sizes under Mac OS X. Also, the i950 apparently does not take banner paper as did the previous i900. The longest paper you can put through the i950 under OS X appears to be US Legal as OS X does not yet support custom paper sizes despite the apparent ability to create them in the Page Setup dialog. Currently, if you select a custom paper size OS X will print to 11 inches and stop. For printing panoramas under OS X, the only workaround so far is to choose US Legal under Page Setup and cut Canon's 13x19 or 11x17 Photo Paper Pro down to 8.5 x 14 inches. Hopefully, Apple will fix this limitation with OS 10.3.

Summary: Canon shoots and scores... i950 is an absolute winner
Review: Printed boarderless pictures, taken with my Canon G3 4.0 megapixel, are nothing short of astounding. Easy to install (you do have to align the print head, but it's a quick couple of minutes), easy to use with the included software (not the psycho 2 billion options that Epson printers have, I like simplicity, and can do my adjusting in photoshop elements 2.0), and fast, fast, fast. The drawbacks are no on board flash card reader (no big deal to me, but to some...), and you must use Canon products to print the great quality pictures. Important cost saving measure!!! Sure, there are some pictures that you will want to use the .60/sheet photo paper pro (when perfection is needed), but for most I would suggest the wonderful Canon matte photo paper, at .20 / sheet 8 1/2 x 11 (either run them 1, 2, or 4 up on the sheet, no its not glossy, but good nonetheless), and you've got one of the most cost effective photo printers on the market (the think tank system with separate ink compartments already makes this one of the cheapest for inks).
Canon has, in my opinion, the best 4.0 mp solution for pictures (G3)and printing (i950) for the photo hobbiest. Add Photoshop Elements 2.0 , and you've got an astounding all around digital photo solution for around [$$$].

Summary: This may be the perfect photo printer!
Review: I recently purchased a new digital camera (Canon PowerShot G2), and wanted a better photo printer than my current Epson 785EXP, which I never really cared for. I am absolutely blown away by this printer! Set up under XP is completely painless. I had my first print in under 5 minutes. The image quality is amazing. It exceeds those from my Sony Dye Sublimation printer (DPP-SV55), which I could never get to print a true borderless 4 x 6 photo. I have finally found a printer that truly justifies having a digital camera, and may very well never take another roll of film. (Well, never say never!) With the bundled software you can easily adjust and crop your images, but I did also purchase Roxio's Photosuite Platinum Edition, because truthfully I found the included software to be a little light. Don't get me wrong - the image quality was excellent with no adjustment needed at all, but I know that once I have installed Photosuite I will be able to adjust and further perfect my output. So far I have only printed 4 x 6 photos on the Canon Photo Paper Plus. True borderless 4 x 6 output. I defy you to tell them apart from a photolab's! The detail and skintones are incredible. I bought 8 x 10 glossy and matte and look forward to giving those a try as well. At this price and with the quality of the photos you can print I can't imagine that there is a better printer on the market. Can't comment on text, as I have an HP LaserJet 2200D, so this printer will be strictly for photos. But if you a looking for a great photo printer at a great price please give this one a try. You will not be disappointed!

Summary: Terrific printer!
Review: This is my first photo printer and I couldn't be happier with it. I purchased it in September 2003 and it has worked perfectly since then. Set-up was easy, the photos come out great, and it is fast. I use the Canon software to download photos but that's it. For everything else -- image correction, printing, etc. -- I use Photoshop Elements 2.0. For what it's worth, I use a Canon G3 and a Mac running OS X 10.2.8.

Summary: Must use Canon products
Review: Good printer if you are prepared to spend $11-$12 per Canon cartridge and use Canon paper. If you plan to use compatible cartridges, anticipate lots of color and clogging problems. If you expect to print lots of photos, as I do (new baby), expect to spend $50-$80 per month on cartridges alone. The ink runs out very quickly! Paper by other manufacturers tends to misfeed. As a graphic designer, I was hoping to use this as a back-up printer for work. I've had to stop, as I find it too expensive to run. Otherwise, good print quality, good skin tones.

Summary: This printer Rocks!!!!!
Review: I am extremely impressed. I just purchased this printer to replace a Lexmark Z43. I just got a Canon EOS Digital Rebel camera to take to Italy for our honeymoon and when I began to print out images I came to the quick realization that the Lexmark was just not going to cut the mustard. I had really wanted the Epson R800 which is an exponentially more expensive printer. My fianceé said no way. So I was going to settle for the R300. Fry's Electronics had this bad boy on sale for $99.99 Factory Refurb. and the sales guy said I'd be foolish to pass this up. Got it home, unpacked it and had it printing within 20 minutes. The color saturation is amazing. I'm really glad I didn't spend the extra cash on either the R300 or the R800. The software is the same as what came with the camera and I use Adobe Photoshop Elements for any correction that needs to be done. Good job Canon!
