Summary: worst printer ever
Review:
Ok, it's not very expensive. But it is still a complete waste of money. I'm so tired of page after page of lines smudged into complete illegibility. It's not even good for printing rough drafts (the reason I bought it). I'm throwing this printer in the garbage and buying something (anything) else. A 20-year-old dot-matrix printer would be an improvement.

Summary: So good we got another one
Review: At my workplace, which it's a small office, we needed an emergency printer so we got this one. For 50 bucks we got more than we bargained for. It is extremely fast and very efficient. One week after we aquired this one another printer broke so It was a no brainer, cheap but extremely good product my boss got another one like this. Should any more printers break this will be the replacement. Why pay 100 when yuo can get such quality for half the price?

Summary: Keep looking
Review: Bought this printer today. I didn't buy it from Amazon, but instead, went to a "super store". Tried to connect it to my Sony laptop with no success. Software did not work. Called the Lexmark support line and got no help from the rep. He steered me all over the place, including downloading additional software from the Lexmark website. It still does not work. I finally gave up. Since I can't return it (no returns on opened boxes), it will now reside in my closet. For the entire 5 minutes that it did work, it was very noisy, slow to print and rattled my whole desk. Next time I'll spend more and hopefully, get more.

Summary: Not the fastest printer I've ever used...
Review: But for the money, it probably can't be beat. I've had bad results using non-Lexmark printer cartidges, though. And, aside from the sheer wastefullness, at the price these printers go for new, it's cheaper to buy another whole printer (along with the ink cartidges it comes with) than to spend the extra $10 to buy just the ink cartidges all by themselves!

Summary: What can I say but "WOW"
Review: First of all, I want everyone who reads this to know that this is my first review. I can say without prejudice that this is the BEST little printer I have ever owned. I started out this century with the much lesser version Z-11 which I paid almost twice as much for. While I still have that printer for the kids' computer, I would buy another one of the z-605's in a heartbeat should the z-11 quit on me. I won't even start to compare the two, but just to say the 605 is WAY better and easier to operate, from installing on the computer to installing the ink cartridges. And speaking of ink cartridges, you can just ignore the inane ramblings of :" ljrhodes " from 1/29/04. For replacement cartridges, shop the web or go to Staples for their own brand to save money. This printer is SO worth the money. As far as needing a black ink replacement, I don't know how much printing he does, but I've had my z-11 for going on 5 yrs now and have never once had to replace black. And we use it quite a bit for school and work. So there. Anyway, I hope this helps. The people who wrote in ahead of me certainly helped me decide. I got this printer when it was "on sale" for less than 50 bucks. Add to that free shipping, no tax and saving "half" again on the cable (less than $6) you simply can't beat it.

Summary: EASY QUALITY PRINTING!
Review: I cannot speak for anyone else here, but I find this printer to be fantastic. Not only was I able to hook it all up and install the software easily, I was printing beautiful photos and text documents with my Word Perfect program within the hour. It was THAT simple. This comes with what at first seems like vague instructions on a folded large sheet. After staring at it for a few moments, I followed the pictures, inserted the cartridges, attached all the cables, applied software..and was all installed and working in less than half an hour. Since I am no whiz at this stuff, I was absolutely thrilled how easy this was to install and use, and I still am.

I find the colors to be quite crisp when printing a photo. The text is outstanding. You configure your colors and depth of saturation with a test sheet that you print when installing, and then choose what you consider the best. Maybe those who don't like the quality, did not do this process correctly, because I have no trouble at all with crisp clear text printing. On some color text, the color is slightly differing than what is offered on the screen, otherwise exceptional quality for the money spent.

I had gotten an HP Photosmart Printer and spent $200 before I returned and got this one. I spent so long installing that one, and it never worked for me. Like I said, I am no expert when it comes to this stuff. I ended up uninstalling the entire operation, and returning that for a full refund. For $150 LESS, I got this Lexmark Z605, and WOW, what a difference.

In my opinion, you CANNOT beat this printer for the money. Wonderful quality, ease of installation, dependability, and also easy to turn on and off, pause, and folds up nice and neat for small workstations with limited space. Mine sits ontop of my HP Pavillion PC and takes up little room. When I want to use it I just push one easy button, flip up the top of the paper feeder, and I am printing. Then just turn off with the same button. You also have the options of resuming printing after pausing, and loading paper as you go along from one page to another, or loading several pieces.

For simple quality printing needs, I highly recommend this printer.

Summary: Some people dont think before they write
Review: Ive always found lexmark printers to be higher quality than the rest within the same price range, yes the cartridges are costlier, but they are the EASIEST to refill bar none, and not at all messy! just get a refill kit, you can fill a cartridge 7 times, no problem. As regard this being cheaper at walmart, add tax, and realise that amazon provide this with free shipping, plus get the USB cable with it while you order (for 3x cheaper than walmart)and you realise youve just said something real silly. The ideal printer for people that dont want instant pages shot out to them.
Great for the money.

Summary: BEST Deal, Great Quality!
Review: My wife and I studied the Lexmark selection recently at a "super store" in town, and after careful considerations of price, and features, decided to buy the Lexmark Z605.

It was $49.95, and offered 4800 DPI (dots per inch/Resolution). The two lower models, ranging from $19.95 for the bottom, and the next at $35, each offered 1200 DPI and 2400 DPI respectively.

Of course, the Z605 being the middle choice, at $49.95 for 4800 DPI (Photo Quality) was our pick, as the next two higher choices were "3 in one" (copier/printer/scanner) combos starting around $149.95.

The Z705 is available for roughly $25 to $30 more, and as far as I can tell, only features another 2-3 pages printed per minute?

So, all that said, the Z605 seemed to be best for us. Until we got it home, and used it to print out our taxes. WOW! The Z605 prints beyond our expectations! The installation was easy, setup was user friendly, and easy, and the quality of print is exceptional!

The printer is extremely lightweight, has a fold down top for dust protection, which doubles to back your load of paper durring printing, holds about 70 or 80 sheets at a time, is VERY quiet, and overall, it is EXCELLENT! A REAL DEAL at only $49.95!!!!!!

We plan to buy a couple more as gifts! :)
