Summary: Brother - Never Again
Review: Review written for the Brother 1440 but it applies to this one as well.

I purchased 2 printers for my office of 14 people. We already have a Hewlett Packard. From day one this printer has been an absolute nuisance. It takes approximately 6 minutes for any job to reach the printer, and an additional 3 minutes for multiple pages to print. Don't even bother to attempt the manual tray. You have to manually hold the paper till the printer decides to grab it, then wait another 6 minutes for it to print.
Once there is a jam - which happens often, or any sort of disruption with the print job, you have to turn the printer off for a few minutes to clear the memory, and send it again. If not, the error light will continue to flash even after the problem (jam, replenish paper etc.) has been resolved. My staff members have all gone back to printing to the HP; and this, along with the other new printer, a Brother HL-1230, sit idly by.

Brother - never again

Summary: Great inexpensive printer
Review: Usually I would go for the HP machine, but I've been satisfied with this product. As long as you follow the installation directions properly your on your way; The print quality is great. If you need an affordable printer for the home or small office, this one is it.

Summary: Great printer at a bargain price
Review: When my 3 years old Brother Laser printer started producing smudged prints I found out the cost of replacing the drum assembly.
The Brother 1230 was selling for less than the price of that drum. I got a new printer for less than the price of its consumables - cannot beat that.

Printer itself is very reliable; Fast enough for all my needs; compact and quite.

Summary: You can't find a better value!
Review: You just can't beat the price! I received the unit just about 45 mins ago and it has flawlessly been installed and configured to run on Windows XP, Windows 98 and a Red Hat 7.3 Linux box (with Samba). The unit is compact but holds almost half a ream of paper and cranked out an 11 page document in just under a minute (validating the 12ppm advertised). The power save feature turns on in an appropriate amount of time (about 90 secs or so) and recovers quickly, no more than 15 seconds. The only drawback is it's lack of expandable memory (although 2MB is a lot for this price) and no USB port if you are interested in that. The standard parallel port seemed quick enough for me. Final thought - better than a great deskjet at the same price!
