Summary: BEST LASER DEAL ON THE MARKET!
Review: I performed an extensive amount of research before I went ahead and bought my laser printer. This Samsung model is most-definitely the best bang for your buck.

I was a little hesitant to buy the name "Samsung" at first, but as a previous reviewer noted, they were just featured in Business Week for an extrodinary comeback to improve their "name."--and they most certainly have done so in my eyes.

After one month of running the printer on moderate load, with Mac OS 9, & X, I've have NO PROBLEMS WHATSOEVER. The first day I got it, it set-up beatifully, and printed flawlessly ever since. The laser quality is phenomenal, and each toner is supposed to last approx: 3,500 pages.

My key philosphy, as I just threw out a defective Epson InkJet printer, was that printers may not last for more than 5 years--therefore, what was kind of printer was in my best interest economically speaking, as well as quality. Samsung beat their comeptitors in ever aspect: Price, quality, customer support, ease of use, and satisfaction. If you are looking to upgrade from the InkJet family of printers, this printer is the way to go. If you are looking for a quality Laser Printer that handles a significant load factor, this printer is the way to go. There are absolutely NO drawbacks to buying the Samsung brand.

Summary: Personal Laser Out Performs Office Laser
Review: I would expect the quality, speed, and features to cost 2- 3 times as much as this printer did. I set it up, printed the demo page, installed the software and printed my first page in about 10 minutes. I have Windows XP and USB ports and this printer is a dream addition to my home hardware. Thank you Samsung for providing a printer that does everything you advertise it to do. And thank you Amazon for selling it.

Summary: An excellent printer!
Review: I bought this printer a few days ago. It is awesome!
Well-designed, quiet, fast, reliable and support all OS-
windows, mac, and linux!

It also supports parallel and usb both. It is somewhat
difficult for me to install usb driver. However, there
is no problem at all, because Samsung updated its USB
driver.

When people think about a reliable and affordable laser printer,
I think this is a must buy.

Summary: I THINK I GOT A LEMON!!!!!!!!
Review: I read all of the great reviews, purchased the printer in April, printed about 30 pages so far and all of the lights are blinking and it won't print. I tried everything: reinstalled the driver, put paper in both paper paths, new toner, printed from different applications, unplugged USB cable and power cord and NOTHING! Amazon said it is too late for them to do anything so I contacted Samsung and I am waiting, not so patiently, to hear from them. Be warned.

Review: I just purchased this printer based on reviews read on this site. I was close to getting an HP that I had been looking at, and never even considered a Samsung. The reviews swayed me. Although I've only printed a few pages I'm very impressed with the initial perfomance. Set up was amazing. It took me longer to unpack it than it did to get it up and running. I was stunned at the ease in getting it to work on the FIRST TRY. Wow!
Print quality is fine for my small business use. So far, so good. And yes, it really is quiet.

Summary: Great price, easy to use, good print qualtiy, fast printouts
Review: I just set up my printer and have only printed about 20 pages or so, but I love it so far. The setup was so easy I almost thought I must have forgotten something. It's fairly quite, it prints great, and the toner/drum cartridge will last for thousands of pages...all for under 200 bucks! How can you go wrong? If you don't like it simply return it, but if you do love it you've saved about 200 bucks between this and its HP equal.

Summary: Can't beat it for the price
Review: I bought this printer on the recommendation of other reviewers here, and I have to say I'm very, very pleased. If I had known earlier that a laser printer of this quality could be had for such a low price, I would have never wasted my money on stupid, chintzy, slow inkjet printers that always seem to break down after a year. I never used the colors anyway.

As for the Samsung, it's fantastic. It is fast, has high-quality print, and has a very small footprint. I've had this one for a couple of months now and have had no problems whatsoever. Just listening to this baby warm up gets me excited for some reason. Maybe because it reminds me that I'm getting great printing for a great price.

Summary: Perfect for a student
Review: I bought my 1210 around New Year's, 2002, and its quality and value have impressed me from the get-go. My observations:

The pros
----------
* It's quiet. I can talk on the phone while it's printing, and it doesn't interfere.

* It's compact. With a footprint of roughly a foot by a foot, and vertical loading and unloading, you can wedge this thing into some fairly tight spaces. (It has a front output switch, but I never use it -- it seems like it's for making one of those old-school Printshop banners.)

* Mine came with a free toner. I'm sure there are different deals all the time depending on the retailer; at the time of this writing, Amazon's price is very competitive. It also has a toner save function that, if the hype is to be believed, saves you some significant amount of toner. Whatever the case, I don't expect to buy toner any time soon.

* It's compatible with USB and standard parallel. I have both, but I have a zip drive in my LPT. I have not had any problems with USB that I can recall.

* I don't know anything about ppm, but if 12 ppm is what the 1210 does, that's plenty fast. I'm a law student, and it is more than adequate for the ample printing I do. You could probably use this printer in a small office.

* The drop-in loading makes it really easy to recycle paper, and it keeps the printer from monopolizing half of your desk (i.e., you don't have to clear a path for a tray). In my opinion, the benefits of this feed method outweigh any accompanying drawbacks (see below), especially if space is scarce.

The cons
----------
There aren't many, and the following are of the "twist my arm" variety:

* Graphics don't come out all that well. (Fortunately, I don't care much about printing pictures.) Like I said: black prints clearly; cross your fingers for grayscale. I got sick of hyperlinks disappering on web printouts; luckily you can set it to darken all text, which solves that problem. I have no idea how or to what extent the toner save function affects graphics; if graphics are important to you, I suggest you play around on a demo model.

* The feeding method (drop in from the top) has two drawbacks, as I see it. First, it requires a little more confidence than would shoving in a tray of paper and forgetting about it. I find it helpful periodically to pull out the "on deck" paper an inch or two and drop it back in. This gets all of it even, and it also makes the printer warm up, so it's ready to print when you are. Regardless, even if it looks like four sheets have dropped into the grabber and look set to jam it up, the thing still works properly.
The second issue with top-loading is that if you need to reinsert a page (e.g., manual duplex, recycling, etc.), try not to be drunk or, in figuring out which way to insert the paper, you will get angry and break something. Moreover, if you're doing something that involves a lot of this reinsertion -- a manual duplex job, for instance -- test out a few pages before doing a 50-page job. If you're printing something other than portrait/letter, it's a whole new level of fun.

* Somewhat related to this is the envelope feed. Forget trying to match up the picture on the printer with the one in Word. If Word starts printing envelopes all screwy, switch the feed style, hit OK, then switch it back to the default, and you should be good to go.

This is a perfect printer for a student: unless you do a lot of color printing for some reason, get this printer if it's in your budget. As a student you mainly want text to look good without having to use a computer lab all the time. That is this thing's raison d'etre. It is an obedient and reliable electronic servant that does your bidding and never quits, complains, or causes problems.

Summary: Good printer
Review: I just ordered the MS 1210 and it works pretty well. Set-up was a breeze. One thing in the reviews is misleading however. The Samsung ML 1210 only comes with ONE toner cartridge now. They must have stopped shipping the extra toner, which means [price] for a new toner drum you will have to spend sooner. Otherwise, the printer seems to work really well. Also, there is no parallel cable or usb cable so you will need to buy one of these. In my case, my old printer which broke had a parallel cable that I could use. For [price] though, this is a pretty impressive value assuming it doesn't break. For most text printing, the quality is more than sufficient.

Summary: need feedback here
Review: the test page printed in compusa looked to me horrible. Same in other stores. Apple 300 dpi lasers 10 years ago looked far better than this. Now everybody here seem to be happy with it - quality wise. What am I missing ?? Would you print your resume on it ? How about black text on this vs modern ink-jets (say Canon S300). thanks.
