Rating: Summary: Eats Toner, Breaks after a few thousand pages Review: Buyer alert: this printer eats toner like there is no tomorrow, 2500 pages is not much from a laser cartridge, but in real life it never even comes close to this (officially rated) output. If you print half of the official rating before having to plunk down another $70 for a new cartridge, count yourself lucky.
To add insult to injury, the feed roller is made of low grade rubber which deteriorates to such a degree after 3-4000 pages that it will jam the paper every single time, thus making the printer completely useless. For most users this occurs after the warranty is up, so you get to choose between a service call costing about the same amount as the printer's new price, or just buying another printer. I know the next one will not be a Samsung...
Rating: Summary: Fantastic laser printer at a low price. Review: It's the best investment I've ever made and at under $150 purchased 2 years ago, it wasnt a big investmet. I print mainly documents for school papers and this blows away any ink jet printer. The print quality compared to an ink jet is so much better. I also have to mention how fast it is. I printed a 150 page study guide in 10 minutes. The only gripes I have about the printer are: samsung drivers are needed with XP, printer takes a couple minutes to warm up, and the feeder tray doesnt load paper evenly all the times, so top/bottom margins are sometimes off by a millimeter or so - not really a big deal though. It still gets 5 stars from me. As for toner, I have replaced the cartridge once. The toner save option is great.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Personal Laser printer Review: I have owned this printer for 2+ years and still works without a glitch. Love that I can use a USB connection.First things first. This printer is exactly what it says. A personal or SOHO laser printer. It cannot do (efficiently) large graphics files or support dozens of users without noted slowness. It has just 8 MB of RAM so keep that in mind when you are planning on a printer purchase. I print just basic stuff.. Internet web pages (like directions or guidelines etc), MS Office documents, etc. I haven't had a single problem with printing any document. I even share this printer amont 3 machines and haven't had a problem with printing speed or anything. It does take a bit to warm up but it is a laser printer not your standard inkjet. It takes like 30 seconds to a min (max) to warm up but that isn't as bad as some other laser printers I have seen. Pros: - Fast enough to handle most if not all your text/ms office type documents efficiently - Drivers are readily avaiable so it just works. No long detailed configuration/installation process. - USB connection gives it flexibility - 8 MB ram is nice and enough to suit most basic users - Very crisp printing - The toner cartridge seems to last forever Cons - It is a personal/soho printer not a small business printer but it still would be nice to have the option to upgrade the memory if I ever wanted to. 2+ years and still chugging along. What more can you ask. Of course if your needs are more.. than get a better printer :-) I recommend the Belkin F3U133-06 USB Device Cable (6 Feet) as the usb cable.
Rating: Summary: Great home printer Review: We have had this printer for 2 years and it works great. Toner goes forever--changed it one time so far. Never jammed, never a problem. It's fast too.
Rating: Summary: Noisy Review: Compared to my HP LaserJet 5L Xtra, the Samsung ML-1210 takes a long time to warm up, and creates a lot of noise. Headache! Even with 8MB, it'd take 20 sec "thinking" before printing out. The cartridge is used up quite fast, considering how little I used in a year. Compared to my HP 5L, which I used a lot during college for 6 years without changing cartridge. Hopefully Samsung will improve its products, which I am sure it will. Else, HP it is.
Rating: Summary: Headaches Review: 1. When it enters "sleep mode" it never wakes up and requires a re-boot. 2. The paper feed is very finicky. If the weather is humid many sheets stick together and jam the printer. 3. It often takes great strength and effort to pull out a paper jam.
Rating: Summary: Can't beat it for the price Review: I've been an inkjet user for years, and was only tempted to buy this because it was discontinued and on clearance for a ridiculously low price. Now that I've been using it for six months, I'm a believer. If you print a lot of text at home, this is the best deal around. It's crisp, fast and quiet, and the output is just as good as any laser printer I've tried. I can't see any degradation even on the 'toner save' setting. My inkjet's been relegated to the back of the closet, to come out only on rare occasions when I need to print something in color. This laser printer is faster, easier to use, and its text looks a hundred percent better than an inkjet's. A little toner goes a long way with the toner save feature, making the per-page cost much less than it used to be. I haven't needed to replace the mini-drum that came with the printer yet, and I've been using it steadily for six months. What's not to love? Go find whatever model they've replaced this with and snap it up.
