Rating: Summary: Avoid --paper jams galore Review: ...P>I've owned two of these HP laser doorstops (1100 and 1100se), and I can tell you I'll never buy HP printers again. BOTH printers, after some use (6 months to a year) pull multiple sheets of paper through themselves, thereby jamming the machines. The result is that my parents and I both have to manually feed one sheet at a time through them. Have tried different papers, loading different amounts, etc. Nothing works. I complained to HP and got a generic 'reload the paper' reply. NOT recommended. I now have an NEC Superscript 1450, and love it. No more jams!!!
Rating: Summary: Great SOHO Printer until Breaks Review: A great personal laserjet, with superior quality, great aesthetic & functional design, ready availability of toners, initially good reliable paper handling, and easy set-up.UPDATE- 75,000 prints later, feeder wear and jams every print- so had to throw away. Just barely stayed with HP (new LJ1012), and hopefully won't regret decision. Having had a HP 4ML (400DPI, 4ppm, Postscipt, PC/Mac interface) for 7 years without problems printing about 1500 pages per month (DTP, engineering graphics/reports etc..), I have great confidence in the ability of my latest HP to perform well in future years. The specification and performance match well the target small business or home user- those who want more just have to move up the range for higher print speeds, higher volume paper handling, and greater capacity toners. The only real shame for the HP range, is that there isn't a very portable laser for business use with notebooks (if possible).
Rating: Summary: Great Laser Printer Review: At it's price range, and considering how cheaply the toner cartridges can come by, it's the best value for the money. Easy set up, excellent print quality, and I like the manual tray and the auto-shut off feature. The only concern I have is that the top feeding trays will collect dust, but I've remedied that with the suggestion to cover the top when not in use. After 2 great HP Deskjet Ink-jet printers, it looks like this Laser is going to carry on the HP tradition of quality in my house.
Rating: Summary: Clean Copies, Dependable Printer Review: Been using this printer in a small office for over a year. After 1 month, it performed so well we purchased another. Both have been maintenance free and consistently produced clean copies. We print anywhere from 50 to 800 pages in a given day and have had no problems. A good laser printer for the money.
Rating: Summary: Too new to warrant extensive repairs. Review: Bought it two years ago, and only used it summers May - September. Last September the heating element wore out, and I need to pay half the price of the printer for a new element. I did like the footprint, the speed and the quality of the print before the machine died. I hated the small paper feed and the special parallel cord.
Rating: Summary: Okay...if you feed it one sheet at a time Review: Count me among those with the paper jam problem. If I have more than one sheet of paper in the feeder, it will suck all of them in and jam. It is remarkably efficient in that it does this EVERY time! The printer worked fine for a year or so, but now I'm forced to feed it one sheet at a time. Seems like this is a common problem.
Rating: Summary: A bit of a pickle Review: First off all backfed printers develope paper feed problems within 3 years, statistically. So I expect to rebuild my 1100 when it starts misfeeding. HP has addressed the problem by not making backfed laser printers anymore. So shut up and stop wining. Accept that you bought a cheap laser printer and move on. My 1100 works flawlessly on letter size and is a breaze to refill. I pay literally nothing to print with it. I find empty carts around town (by asking people DUH!) then I trade empty E20 E40 and L50 carts with an online toner reseller for LJ 1100 toner in a bottle. Then I refill. The printer refuses to print things correctly when the file size exceeds the printer memory... so I should stop wining and upgrade it but I feel that's a design flaw... the same as Brothers 1440 only doing 300DPI out of the box. Now that printer is a hunk of crap. This 1100 is what it is and does what it's suppose to. I had a 5L and it was the same case. Worked great till I broke it while monkeying around with the guts so I replaced it with this one for $100.

Rating: Summary: Quality Printer, but some design missteps Review: I am extremely pleased with the speed and quality of work that this printer is capable of. I currently have it shared on a network, and it's extremely capable and handles the jobs we throw at it with amazing quality and speed. The machine is fast to warm up. The printer software that HP included is extremely easy and intuitive to use with a lot of nifty features. Also, the secondary tray is very helpful with smaller print jobs. However, the 1100se has a slight design problem. Since both loading trays are on top of the machine, they become collectors of dust. I owned the HP LaserJet 5L before this one and it has the same ergonomic issue, which led to numerous paper jams or the printer pulling multiple sheets at once. I have owned the 1100se for about a year, and have thankfully not experienced as many jams as the 5L, but this is a problem. If you're able to fashion some sort of dust cover, it would help. However that aside, the 1100se produces excellent quality print jobs and is very speedy. It does a good job and I am very pleased with this machine.
Rating: Summary: Solid laser printer, but outdated Review: I bought the 1100 a while back and it worked wonderfully for all I needed. At the time, 90% of my usage was just for printing text documents and I didn't have the time to waste with an inkjet printer. It's speedy enough that you won't wait long for your dissertation, but sometimes the printer can get incredibly hot in the back if you're printing something big - you can see little beads of condensation forming, as if the printer were "sweating" - not a pretty picture. Amid minor annoyances like these, it's served me faithfully, but I think these days you can get more bang for your buck elsewhere.
