Rating: Summary: Went OUT after only 3500 pages! Review: I lvoed this printer when I first got it. Thank God I bought the extended warranty! After only 3500 pages, it needed EXTENSIVE servicing, because the fusing motor went out. The extended warranty wouldn't authorize the reparis, as it was $900.00! They did refund my purchase price, so now I am looking for something else....DONT BUY if you expect it to last long, especially for the price!
Rating: Summary: Handles a Restaurant's In-House Printing, and Does it Well! Review: I own a 270 seat restaurant and pub and I do all of my own in-house printing. I was looking for a color laser printer about a year and a half ago, and after much research decided to go with the Minolta-QMS 2200 Desklaser. I have to say that after a year and a half of heavy use, this machine has proven to be a great solution to our problems, though not a perfect one. This machine is rather toner hungry, so expect to spend a fair amount of cash on replacing toner catridges and oil drums. However, I have to say that the machine performs without fail, day in and day out. My main complaint is that there is no warning given when toner is running low or the oil drum is about to go bad. When this occurs, you can't print a thing until you get a replacement. So, it is important that you have back-ups of toner and other supplies, which can be a costly investment. However, this machine replaced the need for getting all of our menus professionally printed, as well as gift certificates and daily specials cards. In this respect this printer has saves us thousands upon thousands of dollars per year. I wouldn't want one as a home PC user though as it is expensive to run if you don't use it for business. Print quality is superb, though solid color blocks tend to vary slightly in shade when printing large batches of the same publication. Not a huge problem though. Overall, a great machine at a resonable price.
Rating: Summary: Ok Printing, But hope it does't break!! Review: I purchased QMS Magicolor 2 printer about 15 months ago (Magicolor 2200 is 2001 version). I use it for printing menus for a restaurant. It worked great for color menu's but not very good with photos. This week the main board went out and the QMS tech said "Sorry out of warranty". Called their parts dept and they quoted me a price greater than five hundred dollars for the board. Ouch! I just bought my first set of replacement toner (4) cartridges, one of which is still in the box. I'm real sorry that I bought this printer. It managed to print 3,491 pages. Most of them were B&W. I was hoping that this color laser could replace my deskjet and old laser printers, but now its time to dust off that deskjet and see if I can find my old Epson Action Laser 1500 (7+ years old) to keep my small office running. Tech support was friendly but could not solve this problem with hardware reliability.
Rating: Summary: A good value with tolerable problems Review: I set up this printer last night. So far, I have only a few minor complaints. The software installation instructions are very weak. If you're plugging this into a parallel port, it's probably a snap. But I tried to use the ethernet port. You have to install this "crown port" thing. Basically, it makes the network printer act like a local printer. So when you click on add printer, you have to tell windows that it has a local printer (scroll down, it's there), even though it's really a network printer. The manual forgets to tell you this. There is an electronic manual burried on the cd somewhere that mentioned this. But it took me about a hour to find. It also doesn't support DHCP, so you'll have to manually set the IP address in the menus in the printer. Also, don't set the subnet mask, leave it at 0.0.0.0. I also noticed the flickering lights that one of the other reviewers noticed. It's extremely minor though. I have to really be looking for it to notice. I suspect the severity of the flicker depends on the wiring in your home or office. It's nowhere near serious enough to warrant buying a different printer though. Other that that, it's great. Pages come out with bright colors and bone-dry. A nice change from the old ink-jet. It's fast too. It's faster in color than my old laser was in black-only. If this printer had DHCP, PCL5, postscript, and a better manual, I would have given it five stars. But you have to pay double to get those features in other color lasers.
Rating: Summary: An Amazing Color Laser Printer at an Amazing Price!!!! Review: I should preface this review with the fact that I bought this printer for personal use only and not for business. With that said, I don't think I could have asked for a better value! Not only was assembly a piece of cake (and I am quite the amateur) taking only a half hour, but the instructions were as clear as they come! Okay... let's talk quality. Prior to owning my MC 2200 DeskLaser, I owned an Epson 660 Color Stylus. To put it mildly, the Epson was a nightmare from the beginning. I wasted countless sheets of paper over the years b/c it skipped or printed in typewriter-esque characters. Not only that, but can you say "ink hog"? I was blowing through 2 black cartridges a week!! Alas, I knew that I should just shell out some dough for a laser printer and was originally just looking for a black and white. However, once I saw the ratings on the MC 2200 DL, I knew that it was the best buy for the money... the color was just a bonus. For me, the MC 2200 DL is mighty fast! What used to take me 3 hours to print, is now complete in a mere 20-30 minutes. Granted this may not be fast enough for a large, office-type setting, but for the busy, personal use, printee... the MC 2200 DL is absolutely perfect! The color is sharp and clear with no smudging or detectable lines. It is MUCH sharper than my old ink jet! I noticed that a few other reviewers said that their "lights dim" when the printer is running. Well, like I said, I am using this in my home and I have not noticed any "pulling" of electricity. If your house/office wiring is up to code, I don't see how this printer could "pull" any more electricity than your TV set. In conclusion, if you are looking to add a color laser printer for your personal use at home or for a small office setting, this IS the printer for you! Save money... look no further than the Minolta-QMS Magicolor 2200 DeskLaser!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Value Review: I was very impressed with the QMS 2200 Desklaser. Not only was it easy to set up the customer service from the support team was great. I needed a color laser but didn't want the price. Minolta has hit a home run with me. The Minoltsa QMS 2200 Desklaser at $... after rebate is hard to beat. Thank you Amazon.
Rating: Summary: I have a ealier version magicolor2 Review: I'm not going to complain the text quality and speed. However, the color photo print is not as good as a regular inkjet hp printer. What really bother me is the toners are very expensive and quickly run out. Just print out about 3000 pages. It alerts me to replace the black toner. Which cost nearly [money] (due to shipping and tax). If by only replace those four toners, you will spent almost the same price as the new machine with the toners. And nowaday, a black/white laser printer only cost the black toner's price.I rather send away the magicolor2 laser printer and put on a hp inkjet printer in this spot.Right now, I reuse my 10 years old Epson Action Laser printer which can print about 10,000 pages per cartidge. That is my most proud of print I ever have.
Rating: Summary: don't buy this printer Review: I've had the Minolta Magicolor 2200 now for 1-1/2 years, and had nothing but trouble. Using it as a network printer (for light duty catalog and flyer printing). Setting up was difficult with spotty technical support. It uses up supplies at an alarming rate, and toner and parts (all consumable, so warranty does not help) are VERY expensive. Printer is also very slow, and print quality varries from average to poor, especially when it comes to color matching and consistency. Worst of all, after only 8,000 copies my fuser part $$ went out. While the book says it should last 100,000 copies, Minolta refused to replace it. I wouldn't buy another Minolta printer again.
Rating: Summary: DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!MINOLTA RIP OFF!!! Review: I've owned a MINOLTA 2200 Magicolor for over 1 year. It has been a NIGHTMARE since the purchase of this product. I've owned numerous printers and this is by far the worst. Problems: constant paper jam's in upper rollers, problems with toner (splattering) and the worst is MINOLTA's printer driver software, will not work properly with WINDOWS XP. It is extremly slow to print, it requires at least 3-5 minutes for warm up, when in idle mode requires even longer warm up time. Print quality is good, color is okay- only prints in CMYK. BUYER BEWARE THIS PRINTER IS OVERPRICED JUNK!!!
Rating: Summary: Get Ready to PAY, PAY, PAY! Review: I've owned the Minolta Desklaser 2200 for 1.5 years. My first printer had a motherboard crash within 6 months!
I had just refilled the printer with toner, $500.00, and a $275.00 Transfer Belt.....
Minolta paid for a new machine which has run OK so far. Now it needs a new Transfer Belt....there goes another $275.00.
Did I mention how quickly you will be paying for Oil Rollers? We run through one every couple of months!! They are $50.00 a pop.
The quality is good but this machine is designed to eat you out of house and home.
Get ready to pay when you buy one of these babies!!!!
