Rating: Summary: Mac OS X? Better read the fine print first.... Review: ...because this is a GDI printer which does not support Mac in any form, shape or fashion. And if you plan to run CUPS from UNIX to trick the printer, you will be disappointed- it will not work. The general attitude at Minolta's service desk was to be expected: you should have read the technical documentation before you bought, but since we are moving our shop from PC to Mac, we expected to at least have some utility from the 2200 DeskLaser. Well, it seems that Windows XP gets a case of indigestion when trying to print to the port which the QMS setup allocates.... In short, we would never buy one of these printers again, or any Minolta printer for that matter given the quality of tech service. And if you're a Jaguar/10.2 shop, look to the more stable product lines from other mgfs.
Rating: Summary: Great entry level laser color printer Review: After my wife wearied spending hours nursing our combination of HP computer/HP 1120C ink jet printer into printing weekly color church bulletins and newsletters, we decided to try this color laser printer. Granted, if you only print an occasionaly 5x7 or 8x11 color photograph from a digital camera, you might want to stick with your inkjet and Kodak photographic paper. But if you need a color laser printer for your business, church or home graphic printing operation, this Minolta Magicolor may be your ticket. Set up was pretty easy. The beast weighs over 85 lbs unloaded (without color cartridges and paper)...we had no problem in our older house with circuit breakers based upon the amperage this machine draws. No lights dimmed. Set up took about 90 minutes, including an error we made not closing a door panel securely and then having to download the appropriate Windows XP driver from the Minolta-QMS website (which in itself took a few minutes---XP drivers weren't included on the CD that came with the printer: only ME,95,98, NT, 2000). Fortunately the Minolta website driver, apparently updated March 18, 2002 worked fine with Windows XP and we're up and running. No problem printing with Microsoft Word or Publisher from the get go. Printing time is down from about three hours on the inkjet for color church bulletins (featuring art work from the masters like Rembrandt on the front cover) to about thirty minutes. And of course the results look professionally printed---color laser doesn't smear if a raindrop or bead of sweat falls on it like it does with an ink jet printer product. And black ink pages just pop right out of the QMS 2200---up to 20 per minute compared with "you know how long" with an ink jet (even set on econo print). Finally, costs for the QMS three color and one black cartridges rated at 6000 pages per cartridge should be a lot less than the innumerable ink jet cartridges we seem to run through. Plus with most ink jets, if you use all the "red", you have to replace the whole color cartridge. Not so with three color cartridges, each rated at 6000 copies... PC Magazines' top rating for this printer got our attention, and we're glad we tried it out.
Rating: Summary: Great Laser Printer / You Can't Go Wrong Review: After receiving this printer, I not only loved the quality out of the box, I loved the quality of the printed product. In my humble opinion, the printer is made with top quality components. The instructions are very clear, making setup a breeze. Image quality is great! You may not get the same quality photo images that you can get with a high end inkjet printer and the right paper, but the speed more than makes up for this. Text is crisp and very clear. Color graphics are also crisp and very clear. Start up is a little noisy, however this is not a concern for me. The best part of a color laser printer is that you don't have to use those expensive specialty papers (like inks jets) to get professional results. You can't go wrong with this one. Great price too!
Rating: Summary: Not Ready For Prime Time Review: Attracted by the features and great price and after having read user reviews of this printer I decided to purchase one. So far the experience has been a very dissapointing one. Mechanically the printer seems fine. I have been able to successfully print very acceptible color and text from Word. I also purchased the duplex unit and am pleased with it's function so far. However I am unable to successfully print with most of the applications I typically use. For example when I try to print a document using Adobe Acrobat 4.0 and the printer prints the first page with the whole image shrunk to about one eight the normal size and located in the upper left hand corner of the page. Then the printer stops and there is no error message displayed. The only way to get the printer to function again is to power off and back on. I also get the same result when using Corel Draw 6.0, Visio 5.0 and Access 97. When I try printing the very same documents with my trusty HP LaserJet III all of the documents print correctly. I have downloaded and installed all of the latest drivers and firmware and with my many calls to technical support have been assured that the latest drivers and firmware have been properly installed. I have been waiting for two days for a call back from their software people but have been told they are heavily backlogged. This printer is not ready for market. Hopefully the problems are all related to the firmware and they can eventually be fixed but for me right now I am unable to use the printer unless I am using Word. Thankfully I still have my reliable HP LaserJet III.
Rating: Summary: Super Great Printer Review: Boy, do not be mislead buy these ingnorant people reviewing this printer. I made sure that the firmware was the most recent then I threw every document format I had at it. Was spectacular, and fast. The HP 4550 needs to calibrate whenever it is on standby, the QMS 2200 only calibrates when it is turned on. Super printer. Great quality and large toner capacities. Built for heavy duty usuage. I use the network card that is built in. Works very well, but you must know something about networks before hooking it up. Not for Beginners. Works terrific in Win XP Professional.
Rating: Summary: Good Product for Office Review: Color Copier, with both 110-240volts.The item will be ship to Ghana
Rating: Summary: BAD BAD Printer Review: Don't buy a warranty! Its not worth it. Warranties don't cover any consumables. The whole printer is a consumable, except the housing. Consumables don't last even close to what is spec'd.
Mine has 46,000 prints and I've spent $4,200.00 on consumables!!! Very bad.
Rating: Summary: "Cheap" Color laser - they weren't kidding Review: Don't waste your money or time on this "cheap" Color laser printer if you need accurately placed graphics or text on your paper. My Company prepares Patent and Trademark drawings for the United States Patent and Trademark Office and almost every other PTO thru out the world and this printer cannot meet the quality that is required for filing formal drawings in ANY country. If you print a sheet of graphics in Portrait Mode and then an identical sheet in Landscape mode the images will be off from each other by approx 1/4 inch when you put the sheets together and hold them up to a light and compare them. When you print a mixed stack of portrait and landscape sheets together, the landscape mode sheets will come out in the reverse direction - meaning the right side of the sheet will come out of the printer last - this means you have to manually sort thru an entire stack and rotate each landscape sheet 180 degrees to get it into it's "correct" orientation. No other Color lasers do this except the Minolta's. I received my 2nd replacement 2200 Desklaser printer before Minolta finally confessed that their so called "specs" allowed for this misalignment problem (needless to say this printer is going to get returned as well). When you print on Glossy paper with this printer - your image will come out "flat" not "glossy". I have a new...k inkjet that prints color better on glossy and a 7 yr old...that prints black more accurately than this...Color LaserJet printer does (Seriously - I'm not joking!!). Whatever circuit you have the 2200 Desklaser plugged into will make the incandescent light bulbs on the same circuit "flicker" while this printer is running - this is very, very, very annoying. Surge protectors and UPS's will not correct this - only a dedicated circuit to run this printer on will eliminate office eye strain created by the flickering lights. About the only thing good I can say about this printer is that it prints out great in color on regular paper and does it fairly fast - but "warm-up" time is slow and noisy. Rating: Summary: Great printer! Great price! Review: For the money, this is a fantastic printer. First, installation was a breeze. The product comes with a quick setup guide and a thicker installation guide. I read over the installation guide and used the quick setup guide for its excellent illustrations. Make sure you read over everything before you install. You need to be careful that you install all pieces correctly or you could damage the printer. There are more parts to this machine than you will find with most printers, but the directions were concise and offered plenty of explanation. Software setup was easy. Print output is good and speed is as advertised. Like another reviewer, I found the computer to be loud on startup. However, once it is going, all you can hear is a slight humm. I had no problem whatsoever with printing in Excel. Also, I printed out some pictures on plain paper and I was very satisfied with the results. Minolta suggests what kind of photographic paper to use for this laser. Visit their website at ... for more information. I do not think you should use inkjet paper. Some of the features I found appealing is the built in ethernet connection and the 32mb of ram that come with the system. These features alone are worth quite a lot to me. I have seen inkjets and I have never liked them. If you print on an HP and rub the paper with your thumb, it will noticeably streak and smudge. I would be embarassed to submit a resume or any document that is important on these types of machines. I tried to smudge the output on this printer and it passed the smudge test with flying colors. Other inkjets, like Epsons, do not smudge as badly as HPs but they tend to print black poorly. Goodbye inkjet and hello affordable laser. At last a color laser for less than a $...(after rebate of course)! I got this printer for my wife who has a home office and she loves it too. I wrote this review because I do not feel like the existing review for this product does it justice.
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Value! Review: Great color laser at unbelievable price! I had absolutly no issues at all setting it up and getting it running. The copies are great on even the cheapest copy paper!
