Rating: Summary: Mac Concerns Review: Be alert on this machine. I don't know if the folowing is true of PC users, but I am a Macintosh user and I purchased it recently expecting to be able to effortlessly plug in my G4 and my wife's iMac G3 through the USB Printer Sharing. It's may be true that this is possible, but no one at Brother and our friend much wiser in such matters than us was able to accomplish this. We then learned the best way and perhaps the only way to network was to purchase the additional Network Ethernet board, making the price of the machine not much different than the 1650N. Perhaps I should have payed much closer attention to the specs, but I was left believing this machine would be able to network both our computers and do Postscript. However, this appears to not be true without the extra board. To be fair, the printer worked beautifully when USB connected to just my computer. Compared to my previous lasers I woud have not hestitated giving it a rating of 5 stars. But the discovery of what more I had to spend did push my buttons. BTW, Brother was very helpful once I calmed down and sent more money. We've now connected both computers and it does what it does well. We love the duplex function and variety of controls , the energy saving and the ease. If it weren't for the bump in this process I'd happily give it the extra star.
Rating: Summary: Great black-and-white laser printer Review: Brother HL-1650 is very fast. It not only prints fast, but also heats up fast when turned on or getting out of sleep mode. The built-in duplex printing is great. One minor problem: the Windows printer driver seems to always use the same paper tray, even the same document contains both letter and legal sized pages. The "auto select" or "automatically select" does work. The MUCH more expensive HP printers seem to work fine with the same document.

Rating: Summary: Great printer at a great price Review: I bought this printer about a month ago because of the rebate and the fact that it has an automatic duplexing feature. At work I have the hp 2200 duplex printer that costs several hundred dollars more and at home I have an NEC laserjet (non-duplex) which I feel is poorly built and designed. I am glad I bought this printer because I don't see any difference between the print quality of the hp 2200 vs this printer. Although I haven't timed the printing, it seems the double-sided printing is faster on the brother. The only feature that I think hp has over this printer is the wireless printing, but that doesn't matter to me since I don't need it. Overall, I believe this is a great printer and a great value.

Rating: Summary: Now, I do do duplex Review: I chose the 1650 for its duplex (prints both sides)capability and I am delighted with it. For $40 plus S&H I maxed out the memory from an on line source. I down load sheet music and print it with the duplex on, the only way sheet music should be printed. I've printed entire novels downloaded from the net. The large capacity paper holder is a great convenience. One bit of caution: Give this printer its own electric outlet. I first plugged it into a cheap power strip and the printer warm up and printing power on popped the circuit breaker on the strip. It needs more power than the Lexmark Z-51 I was using as my main printer. I bought it from Amazon.com because they have the best price and shipping was free. After you order it, go out and buy some three ring binders and paper with prepunched holes. The duplex feature will bring you the opportunity to print more book-like things and you're going to realize that every other printer you've ever had that didn't do duplexing was holding you back. If you've been using an ink jet printer you'll find this printer capable of saving you lots of money on paper and "ink". A large spread sheet document printed on the Lexmark Z51 depleted a $28 ink cartrige and on the 1650 made only a small dent in the 6500 page capacity of the toner cartridge that comes with the printer.
Rating: Summary: Best laser printer I ever had Review: I have been a HP laser printer since de mid 80s. Over a year ago I switch to Brother because of the added features this printer had as standard. The automatic duplex printing is a great feature and I am hooked on it. The price tag is fantastic. HP cannot even come close in quality and features let alone price.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Printer Review: I have had this printer for over a month now, and so far, it is performing extremely well for me. This is despite the fact that I have not upgraded the memory at all from the original configuration. Set up was very simple; pretty much, the instructions that come with the printer are dead-on accurate, and the CD-ROM takes you through the rest of the setup process without any difficulties. Even if you aren't extremely computer savvy, setting up this printer should be a breeze. Faults? So far, I haven't seen any faults with this printer - it has performed wonderfully. We'll see how it holds up a year from now though...
Rating: Summary: Annmn Review: I have had this printer since last March and love it. The big drop in price caught my eye so I decided to review it. There is just no comparison between this printer and my previous HP LaserJet 1100. When I bought this product the new LaserJet 1200 had just come out. But this machine has so many more options. I am very glad I switched. The toner costs more but goes much further. The only downside is that Brother does not sponsor a recycling program for used toner and drum cartridges like other manufactuers. Brother are you listening?
Rating: Summary: High Quality, Fast Duplex Laser Printing for under $1000 Review: I have owned this for about a month. The HL-1650 is just about the best $600 I've ever spent. The speed is a little slowish on graphics heavy documents, but still much faster than inkjets with the laser quality output. The unit has a good number of features, but probably the strongest selling point for this unit is duplex printing at the $600 dollar price point. That's about half the cost for an HP with a similar feature without a noticeable drop-off in print quality. Outlets such as Office Depot display both Brother and HP brand laser printers, so they can be compared side by side. I was resistant to buying a laser printer that was not an HP, but I can honestly say I'm glad I took a chance on the Brother HL-1650. For the money it is by far the best printer out there for b&w printing, and the duplex feature makes it an even better buy.
