Rating: Summary: Printer might be good but.... Review: The printer might be good but I will never know. I tried to install the driver on my laptop, the same laptop on which I have installed tens of other software titles and other printer drivers without a single problem. The Minolta driver installation program stalled out and left no way to un-install. I tried to re-install but that led to a spiral of ugly messages from the install program saying "I can't uninstall the previous installation". Phone support from Minolta gets a C- because the first person I talked to actually knew nothing or just enough to be really dangerous. The second person was knowledgeable, tried hard, and was willing to think beyond the check list and he is the only reason that this product did not get a negative 5 star rating. In the end though even this valient fellow had to give me the old "reload windows" fix. I sent the printer back. I don't have time to reload windows and really screw things up!
Rating: Summary: Beware of Rebate Review: The printer overall is a good performer. Like one of the other people writing reviews, mine came without the driver CD-ROM or a power cable. I had to download the driver (which wasn't difficult) and buy a cable. I called Minolta to have them send me a CD and power cable but it never came. I also sent for the rebate according to the rebate form but I received a letter stating that my printer did not have the correct serial number to qualify for the rebate. This was upsetting considering the rebate is prominently displayed with the description of the product. Beware, the rebate may be bogus.
Rating: Summary: Great customer service in my opinion Review: The printer works extremely well, but this review focuses on customer service.First, the Minolta web site is well-done - not only can you download the drivers for the printer, which I had no problem doing for MS2000, but you can fill out the warranty information and view the user's manual on-line. Second, I received the printer without the collateral material (power cable, CD, guide, etc.). Amazon talked with Minolta's customer service and found that the most effective course of action was for me to get it from them directly (makes sense for all parties). I called Minolta's customer service, left the pertinent info on voice mail, and received a call back from a rep 15 minutes later. On the basis of the call, they sent me the necessary materials overnight express. This exceptional service is worth noting, because I suspect that the basic printing functionality of a laser printer doesn't vary across brands - but if something goes wrong, I can attest from personal experience that Minolta appears to backing up its products with prompt and courteous customer service. That fact alone inclines me to recommend purchase of this printer for anyone who doesn't feel the need for color capability.
Rating: Summary: Great printer at a great price Review: This impressive printer seems to work as well as the ... HP we have at the office, but at less than ... (after rebate) it's pretty amazing. Quality is great for the basic printed documents we need--Quicken reports, internet articles, Word/Excel documents, etc. With its very reasonable price and excellent document output, it's not out of the question to have this printer and a high quality bubble jet for digital photography. I would recomment uninstalling your antivirus program before installing the printer, however. Bizarrely enough, after installing the printer, my Outlook Express email wouldn't work. I called Minolta and they were very easy to get to, but even after emailing me "patches" they couldn't help me. The so called "fixes" didn't work, and someone there ultimately told me it was a Windows problem. In fact, I noticed that my Norton antivirus 2001 wasn't working properly, so I just re-installed it and now everything works fine.
Rating: Summary: don't buy if running Windows 2000 or XP Review: This is a good, cheap printer for Windows 95/98/ME users but Windows 2000 and XP users need to use a beta Win2K driver (v0.22) that is not very reliable. Since all new computers are now sold with XP I would not recommend this printer for use with a new system until Minolta/QMS releases a reliable, non beta driver.
Rating: Summary: Single User Excellent results Review: This printer does not supply stable printer driver for Windows XP. The only driver is version 0.22. Good number, even not greater than 1.00. I try to contact Minolta tech-support and they gave me some instructions and I can not see any improvement on my printer. At least, they still rply you... .... If you want to keep using Windows 9x, well, it is a good buy. Otherwise, you will get a lot of troubles on it. ...This is good product in such a price. I don't think that I can get a printer from HP or the other brand in this price. Especially, in such a bad economy season, I don't people want pay more money if they get the same thing....

Rating: Summary: Not for Networks Review: This printer has become the bane of my existence. It works quite well for single PC's, but attaching it to a network is not recommended. First, all the OS's on the network must be the same (Win9x, 2K, etc...), then, it will only print basic formats, Word, Word Perfect, and most image formats. MS Publisher, Access, Adobe(anything but Photoshop), PDF, and any other "publishing style documents" won't print. You can print them from the print server, just not the client machines. Also, save yourself some grief, and avoid printing envelopes. And, if the power goes out, you must reinstall the printer drivers. If you don't, the printer will tell you the "printer cover is open, cancel all jobs". The only way to avoid this message is to reinstall the drivers. It seems I'm not the only one to notice these issues. Recently while talking to technical support (not Minolta) regarding a problem printing postage stamps, the CSR stated that they have many problems with this printer, and were surprised that I was able to network it all. If you plan to attach this to a single PC, I recommend this printer, when it prints, the quality is great. If you want a networked printer, this isn't for you.
