Rating: Summary: More Like 4.5 out of 5 Review: I just got this printer in the mail, but i had some trouble getting it up and running. It was a fairly simple problem with drivers. I run Windows 2000, and the driver cd only came with drivers for 95/98 and NT. I just had to download new drivers from the minolta-qms site ( http://www.minolta-qms.com ) and I got it installed and printed a test page. Now I tried to print a document from Word, Notepad and my browser. NOTHING worked!! I uninstalled the printer from the control panel, then reinstalled the drivers. I finally got it working after 3 or 4 restarts (very rare in 2000!). The setup took about an hour from start to print. But after all the restarts, it prints like a dream. I cannot believe how fast it is. The paper doesn't even finish going into the printer before I see it coming out the other side, freshly printed. The quality is excellent! I would have difficulty telling the difference between a page printed on this printer, and one at work (a huge expensive HP laser printer). This printer also has a small foot-print. Allthough, it is sort of tall. One other complaint I have is that it doesn't come with any way to store paper in the tray. You can buy a tray from Minolta, but that would be pointless in my opinion. The paper exits from the top on to the translucent foldable plastic tray. It just take a little getting used to. This printer is a GREAT bargin because of it's size and quality. It's only fault is in it's driver support out of the box, but the drivers can be downloaded from the site (which is a better idea because of software updates etc that are not on the cd).
Rating: Summary: Good performer Review: I like this machine. Compared to the IBM/LExmark 4039 that it replaced, it is cheaper, faster, and it has several nice features, such as printing multiple page images on one sheet and printing "watermarks" (e.g., "DRAFT", "DO NOT COPY") ....
Rating: Summary: THIS PRINTER IS A PIECE OF S**T! Review: I received this printer in the mail two days ago, and ever since then I have been talking to tech support trying to figure out how to make the damn thing work. One of the technicians there told me that these machines are known for the problem they have in not being able to communicate via the parallel port. He recommended that I return it, as there are a percentage of these machines that are DEFECTIVE. I would not recommend this printer to anybody, as the saying goes, "YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!" If I would have spent an extra $100.00 for a Brother model 1240, I would have been much better off, and would have saved a lot of grief! DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER!
Rating: Summary: The easiest to install printer. Review: I run win98 on my computer. This printer was one of the few peripherals which installed and ran so smoothly right out of the box. My previous printer was an inkjet and was a pain to install the first time around (kept conflicting with the previously installed scanner and would not run even when I removed all traces of that scanner from my computer). The printouts are sharp and clean and come out really fast. I love the ability to print multiple pages on the same sheet and even do manual duplex printing (the printer takes care of order of pages while printing duplex with multiple pages on each side). During the past few months of using this printer, I encountered paper jam only twice (both times my mistake, once tried to pull a paper back while it had already started moving inside for printing and at other time the stack of papers on the input tray was badly sticking together). Both times clearing the jam was a breeze. I received the rebate check in about a month which was fast as compared to most of other rebates. The only negatives about this printer are, one, the memory cannot be expanded (not that I need more) and two, the optional high capacity second paper input tray is outrageously expensive.
Rating: Summary: Good quality, good deal Review: I was originally planning to get a much more expensive laser printer for my home office, but I decided to give this one a try due to the price tag. So far, I don't regret the purchase. It's well-designed for home use--the small footprint, closable paper trays (keeps the office looking less cluttered when the printer's not being used), decent print speed and crisp print quality are impressive. If you're on Windows XP, the Minolta Web site provides a driver. It took a couple of installs to get the printer working, but no big deal.

Rating: Summary: Single User Excellent results Review: I've been using this printer for about 16 months. I got it because it was a great price for a laser and I print lots of documents for graduate school. I had no problem with the installation (I'm running Windows ME) and the printer has been nearly flawless in its function (maybe jammed 3 times in 16 months). I don't use it on a network, virtually never print graphics or pics of any kinds. I read a comment about the power going out, but for a period of 6 months, I actually had to keep the printer unplugged all the time unless printing. I would then simply plug it into my computer, and into the power supply, and it worked fine, no need to re-install anything. I think for a small office this is a good value any way you slice it.
Rating: Summary: Drivers for Win 2000 don't work! Review: I've tried to use the printer with a win 2000 system. The driver supplied by Minolta is total crap! On a AMD Athlon@1GHz it uses 100% of the CPU-time for about 10 seconds just to print one page. In addition to wasting time the driver wastes physical resources because most of the time the first page of a printjob is just a black page. When I tried to get support from Minolta they just didn't care.
Rating: Summary: Minolta QMS PagePro 100L Review: The 1100L would have been a very fast set-up except Minolta QMS failed to ship a power cable and installation software. I simply downloaded the software from the Web and followed the instructions in the Users Guide for Installation and Reference (oops, no manual either, guess I'll have to download that too). With a [$] rebate, I can live with a couple of inconvieniences. The machine has a compact footprint, is fast, installed easily, and unless it flies through toner and drums (I'd like to hear about that) seems like a good low-end laser printe
Rating: Summary: 5 stars if you're a computer whiz - 3 stars if you're not Review: The Minolta PagePro 1100L is my second laser printer... However H-P changed its model names and I couldn't find another 4L or anything that seemed equivalent. Also the Minolta was 3 times cheaper than any H-P model so for this second printer I took a gamble as both Minolta and its QMS subsidiary have been around for years and enjoy a good reputation. It's a bit unfair to compare a 2001 Minolta with a 1995 H-P, but Hewlett-Packard has become *the* standard for reliability and quality. The Minolta turns out to be even better than my H-P in performance and output, although some of the plastic parts seem a bit flimsy and may not last 5-6 years. The printout is as good as H-P's for text and better for pictures. The Minolta also prints out faster and has some unique, interesting and useful features such as the ability to print multiple pages on a single sheet of paper. Also, for those who are short on desk space, the Minolta's footprint is about half my H-P's. The physical installation was a breeze, but the software installation was a nightmare. There is supposed to be a CD to perform the installation, but it was missing. I was able to download the drivers but the process, and the selection of the proper driver is not obvious. Also I'm stuck with about 8 megs of downloaded and unzipped files cluttering my hard drive and I'm not sure which are necessary and which I could delete. After installation, I experienced two major bugs (the readme.txt file covered them both but I suffered 3 hours of frustration before I got to that file as a last resort). The manual is very sketchy and does not cover the printer's special features. The setup installs a nice little program called Printer Console, but it is totally undocumented and you're totally on your own to discover even its existence. And its help file is at times ludicrous... All in all I would rate the Minolta 1100L as a 5-star if you are a very experienced computer user (or have access to one) and 3-star if you're not. And if you buy it, be aware that the needed supplies don't seem to be available from anyretailer at this point; you have to order them on-line from qms. (It's not clear in the product description, but you DO get enough to get going already installed in the printer)...
