Rating: Summary: College Student Review: I got my 1400 about 2 weeks ago. I needed a faster printer forprinter a thesis. I knew I would go crazy trying to print 80-100pages on an inkjet. This printer does not disappoint. Although it is not upgradeable the present settings are more then adequate. The 10 pg a minute real-world speed is awesome. I'll never go back to inkjets. The text is very sharp and graphics are adequate using standard paper. As other people mentioned before the construction is a bit flimsy (the only reason why I did not give it 5 stars), but if you treat it well I don't foresee any major problems. I can't be any happier. The only issue i truely have isthat no one around here has NEC toner. But if you think and advanceand order from Amazon it is never more than a day or two away.
Rating: Summary: Great printer, great price, great warranty... Review: I have been nothing but thrilled with this printer. I did a lot of research before deciding on the NEC Superscript 1400. My decision was made by a number of things. Before purchasing this printer, I called the NEC customer service people to get some info on the product and to get an idea on how helpful they would be in case of any problems. The individual that I spoke with was VERY helpful. I specifically inquired whether the drum and the toner are one or two components. Some printers have a drum that is separate from the toner, which needs to be replaced every other time you change the toner for an additional $200-- this is an expense I did not want. The NEC 1400 has a combined toner/drum for $79 (lasts 3000 pages)...the same price and output as most other laser toners... For the price and the 2 years of warranty (most lasers only have 1 year)...this is an AWESOME printer... and it only took a couple of minutes to get it setup.
Rating: Summary: Easy Mac and PC setup Review: I just installed the 1450N last week and it is hooked up to a Mac network via ethernet and straight into a PC Unix machine. Setup was straightforward with no problems. Print quality is superb off both platforms. What a great Mac printer- ethernet and postscript for the money. Will have to see how it does longterm but off to a good start.
Rating: Summary: NOT A HAPPY CAMPER Review: I purchased this printer with hopes of using it for my home and growing small business - with the intention of using it to print evelopes, overheads, ..items that require the use of the manual-hand feeder. I have to say that I was VERY disappointed!! When trying to do any of these operations, this printer has given me practically nothing but frustration. Normal printer operation is ok - in fact, the print quality is excellent - but I did have difficulties - more than I have had with any other printers, with my PCs somehow having difficulties sending jobs to this printer. I WOULD NOT recommend purchasing this printer!!!!
Rating: Summary: good output, high noise Review: I returned this printer to Amazon one day after it arrived to my house. Printer had really good output, but made a high pitch noice every time it printed and it would stay on for at least 5 minutes (the lowest time setting for power saving feature). It really bothered me to listen to it and my wife did not like it either. So I purchased Brother HL1240, liked it and kept it while returning this NEC. Output on both was the same (600 DPI), Brother was somewhat quicker to start printing, and was very quiet. I really cannot say anything bad about this printer except for the high pitch noise that is inexusable.
Rating: Summary: Very reliable printer at a great price Review: I used to use only HP printers, but I read some very good reveiws for the NEC printers. This printer very well backed up these claims and performed better than I expected and outperformed my HP printers in speed and print quality. You can not find a better sub printer than this one. The memory expansion options are also a plus because you can use regular simms or EDO memory and these can be found virtually anywhere. The only downside is that because NEC is not a well known brand for printers, finding accessories such as toner is not as easy compared to the other better known printer manufacturers.

Rating: Summary: Need help setting up on WinME Review: I was debating on rather to buy the NEC 1400 or the 1450. I chose the 1400 for a few main reasons. The difference between the 2 isn't that great, and the 1450 is a few hundred more. The only real differences were the paper tray and the ability to expand the memory. I figure by the time you need more memory its time to get a new printer. For the money go with the 1400. P.S. When I recieved mine it didn't have the USB drivers for Windows 98, but you can download them from nectech.com.

Rating: Summary: Memory is not expandable Review: I would like to thank "An electronics fan from Irvine, CA" (pervious reviewer) for providing details about a product that he obviously does not own. The 1400 does NOT allow you to upgrade the memory, which was a factor in my buying decision since I have many extra SIMMS laying around. Again, thankyou for the misinformation.
