Rating: Summary: This printer's good Review: The Laserjet 1000 fulfills all basic black and white printing needs. It is much more relable than an injet and less nuisance and cost because the toner does not need to be replaced for 1000's of pages. I recommend it for anyone who is still printing text documents on an inkjet.
Rating: Summary: Prints well, missing functionality Review: The print quality and speed are great for the price. However, there are no buttons on the printer. If you run out of paper while it is printing, the light just blinks. The only way to coninue after adding paper is to print something else. ...or turn it off, then on again. I'd give it a 5 in print quality and speed and a 0 for the lack of controls.
Rating: Summary: SOFTWARE TROUBLE Review: The printer gives you nice output - if you can get it to work. The disk that came with the printer created havock with all USB connections on the system. HP kindly overnighted a newer version, which worked well on my Micron desktop. However, no luck with the Sony laptop. Since the printer is dependent on the host computer for processing the software must work perfectly. Better wait until HP gets their act together or get the 1200 for...more [money]. I wish I did.
Rating: Summary: Not a Keeper Review: This HP Printer lasted less than a year. Constant problems with paper misfeeds, envelopes expecially. Finally, it stopped feeding paper at all. The cartridges for this nearly exceed the cost of the printer. It is not a quality product, and after various repeated HP failures, and lack of support I am avoiding anything they make from now on.
Rating: Summary: Beware Review: This is a USB printer, and USB printers have *issues.* If all you print is text, all is well. However, if you print any kind of graphics, a USB printer requires that you change all PostScript from binary to ASCII and where you make that change is different from program to program. If you miss a binary file, the printer spits out page after page each with one line of gibberish. So, bottom line: If you are printing letters, great printer. If you print PostScript you will tear your hair out.
Rating: Summary: Terrific inkjet replacement -- but shows its cheapness Review: This is an amazing laser printer for the price. However, let me emphasize "for the price". What are you missing out on? It only has 1mb of RAM. Printing complex documents, especially over a network, can be somewhat sluggish. It doesn't support PostScript or even HP's own PCL. Instead, PCL support is implemented in software, the "driver" that is supplied. Basically, the printer is doing little by itself, and has to be spoon-fed by your system. This is an acceptable thing in the world of inkjets, so you could consider it acceptable for this class of printer. Still, a laser printer should be expected to provide hardware PCL or PostScript support. The biggest problem with their software-only PCL solution is the fact that you're tied to Windows or MacOS. HP does not provide their driver for any other operating system, so if you want to use anything else (such as linux), you're out of luck. Still, it has many high points. Text is wonderfully rendered, and images come out acceptably well. It truly is fast, especially from a cold start (first page hardly takes longer than the rest!). Self-cleaning works great, and it is very economic with toner usage. If you do demand PCL support, then Brother and a few other companies have "real" lasers of similar quality with similar price ranges. If not, the LJ 1000 has plenty of other redeeming qualities, and you shouldn't overlook it.

Rating: Summary: Simple, fast and cheap! Review: This lovely little LaserJet has been cranking out pages for me almost non-stop for the past 2 months without the tiniest of problems. Text is crisp and photos turn out surprisingly well. Setup was as easy as it gets on WinXP - and it's quiet, too. Sharing the printer with 2 other networked computers was a snap. Forget ink jets - go with the LaserJet 1000!
Rating: Summary: I have this printer. It is in the trash. Review: This printer died on me after less than a year. It is so cheesy that it does n't even have an off switch. You have to unplug it to turn it off. This is the second laser I had from HP, and they both died young. Sometimes it would stop feeding with the paper stuck in the middle of the machine, and there was no way to get it to feed the paper the rest of the way through. HP drivers always gave me some trouble also. Don't buy it!!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Printer Review: This printer does not work with Macintoshes! I have lost a lot of confidence in HP products after buying this printer, taking it home, and finding out that I can't use with any of the 4 computers in my house. It is not network-capable, even through a JetDirect. The resolution is OK, but could be better. This printer is cheap. If all you do is run Windows and print from Word, it's the right printer for you. Otherwise, spend the extra money and get something that was well-thought out and compatible across the board.
