Rating: Summary: A Complete Mistake; Don't Buy if you use Windows 98 Review: After I bought this printer, it turned into a fiasco. I had my old HP LaserJet 4L for 6 years. It got me through four years of college and 2 1/2 years of law school. I never had any problems. It eventually died simply because I used it so much; I ran it into the ground. This printer was just the opposite, however. Right from the start, there were problems. Just a few days after I had it, I began getting errors messages saying that the printer was not connected (even though it was). I called HP's tech support and was told that there was some sort of glitch in the programming code if the printer was used with Windows 98. They sent me a patch, which seemed to fix the problem. A couple of months later, however, I began to have the same problem. Again, I called tech support. After 2 hours on the phone trying several different methods of fixing the problem, HP's tech support concluded that the printer simply would not work with my laptop because I had Windows 98. Apparently there is some sort of glitch with the printer's USB connection on machines that use Windows 98 and while usually it can be corrected, sometimes it cannot. There are several problems with this printer. First, why use a USB connection when parallels have always worked so well in the past? If nothing else, making the printer compatible either way so the user can decide. Second, why sell a printer that might not be compatible with Windows 98? At least give a warning to Windows 98 users not to purchase this printer. In fairness to HP, they were pretty good about refunding my money but still, it was a major hassle having to go through all this and at the end of the day, I am still without a printer. Overall, I highly recommend NOT buying this printer; HP all but conceded to me that there were problems with it, particularly if you use Windows 98.
Rating: Summary: Excellent for high volume home use Review: Around three months ago, we were looking for a printer to replace our old HP Deskjet 500. By accident, Istumbled upon this low price but quite efficient laser printer. For the money, it can't be beat. My wife has been working out of our house, and she has printed a TON of balance sheets, income statements, etc., and we're still not through a cartridge. Set up was a snap (it's attached to an XP machine networked through our home network to a Win98 machine). The only quirky thing is that there is no off switch. I guess you just have to turn it off via power strip. Otherwise, it has been well worth the money.
Rating: Summary: HP LaserJet 1000 is great Review: Bought this printer for a friend. She absolutely loves it. No problem whatsoever. I will buy one for myself soon.
Rating: Summary: A great basic printer Review: Don't be frightened away by this printer's cheap price. It lacks the bells and whistles of others, but that means there are fewer features to break down. It is quick, quiet, and clear.
Rating: Summary: Not enough memory Review: Don't choose this printer if you are going to be printing documents with a lot of pictures or graphics (choose HP1200) it just does not have enough memory to handle it and it would start giving you unfinished jobs, they even tell you on HP web site as a troubleshooting problem. It is just words go ahead is a good machine quality/speed/easy to install.
Rating: Summary: Prints out documents in a snap Review: Great printer that prints faster than my inkjet. I prints 15+ pages in less than a minute. Great printer for printing large documents and they look very professional. I only use my inkjet for color documents. I have windows 98 on my computer and it works very good. I have not had any problems connecting it. If you are a home user and in college, this printer is perfect! I love and look forward to printing from it after writing multiple page reports.
Rating: Summary: No multiple feed problem with this printer. Review: HP fixed notorious 'multiple paper feed and jam' suffered from previous models (1100, 6L ) by changing vertical paper feed system to horizontal feed. (BTW: if you have those model, they offer free-self-installation-fix-kit at their web site) only problem with this system is top margin isn't always accurate. In most cases, this isn't problem nor even noticeble. but for dentist who have to print on pre-formated ADA insurance claim forms, it's a critical mistake to mis-mark 'X' 1/4 inch below where it suppose be. To fix the problem, I ended up pushing paper aligner to make paper stand-by in bow shape. This printer isn't exactly 5 star yet, for the money, it should satisfy most use.

Rating: Summary: Great Printer! Review: I bought this printer a year and half ago when the IIIp started giving me problems. I went for HP since I'd had such a great experience with the last printer and this one has not let me down. I'm not sure if those that have had problems with this printer have just used it more, but I print about 60 to 70 pages per week and mine has been just fine. So, if you're looking for a printer to use at home that won't be getting very heavy use, I would definitely recommend this printer. I thought it was well worth it when I bought it for 300... It's a much better deal now.
Rating: Summary: A great little printer Review: I bought this printer because I wanted the speed and crisp printout that at laserpinter provide. I got that and at a good prince. I did have a moment of uncertainty with an early software problem, but after downloading the fix, I have had nothing but grade-A service from this printer. HP, you have hit a homerun with this one!
