Rating: Summary: Eats Toner, Breaks after a few thousand pages Review: Remark on the good reviews: It is easy to fall in love with this printer, it works fine in the beginning, although I believe those that are lauding its toner capacity probably print less than 10 pages a month... (I had the same problems with the predecessor of this printer, the ML-1210.)
Buyer alert: this printer eats toner like there is no tomorrow, 2500 pages is not much from a laser cartridge, but in real life it never even comes close to this (officially rated) output. If you print half of the official rating before having to plunk down another $70 for a new cartridge, count yourself lucky.
To add insult to injury, the feed roller is made of low grade rubber which deteriorates to such a degree after 3-4000 pages that it will jam the paper every single time, thus making the printer completely useless. For most users this occurs after the warranty is up, so you get to choose between a service call costing about the same amount as the printer's new price, or just buying another printer. I know the next one will not be a Samsung...
Rating: Summary: Samsung ML-1430 Laser Printer Review: I bought this printer for my office at home. I was tired of the cost of Ink Jet cartridges and how quickly the printers wore out. I bring alot of work home and adding in the kids and my husband, printing was expensive. I love this printer. I have owned it over 2 years with absolutely no problems. It was inexpensive to buy and the cartridges are inexpensive to replace. The quality of the print is great. It was easy to set up. I save the inkjet for pictures only.
Rating: Summary: unhappy camper Review: AT first, I was pretty happy with this printer, but it stopped working less than a year after I purchased it. Another thing I didn't like was the cost of the printer cartridges...nearly $80. Moreover, the cartridges don't last very long, even with the toner saver. In all, I was pretty unhappy with Samsung printers. Even though Samsung replaced the printer with a new similar model, I'm not expecting my replacement to last or perform for very long.
Rating: Summary: Great for my college student needs Review: I'm an engineering student and I end up writing lots of pages worth of lab reports and what not. Ink jets either didn't have the good resolution I needed or I'd have to wait forever for a graphically intense page to print. Also, the inkjet prints weren't very durable when walking through the rain to class. After being fed up with that, I searched out for low-cost laser printers and found this one. I tried it out and I love it. It's small (about a square foot for a footprint) and it's quiet (good for not waking up your room mate when you need to print stuff out @ 2am.) Granted, lasers seem pricey, but per page it's a lot cheaper. A toner tank'll last you about 3,000 pages, compared to an ink jet's 250-400 pages. And best of all, it's fast. Nothing's worse than waiting for a 14 page report to print out before class and you're going to end up being late if you have to wait for your 6-page-per-minute printer to do the job. This printer'll do it in less than half the time. The only downside to this printer, in my opinion (other than it's monochrome, so no color) is that it doesn't seem to like handling envelopes and labels very well. The alternate paper tray doesn't seem to be too friendly to having things fed into it. But for just about everything else, this printer's a definate thumbs up.
Rating: Summary: Great Printer Review: My husband and I bought this printer after never ending frustration with ink jet printers and cartridges that were constantly running low. We've had this printer for over six months now and have had no problems with it. It does take a little time to warm up, but not long enough to be annoying. Also, it prints much faster than my old ink jet so any warm up time is more than made up for. It was easy to set up, easy to network and I have no complaints.
