Summary: Great for my college student needs
Review: I'm an engineering student and I end up writing lots of pages worth of lab reports and what not. Ink jets either didn't have the good resolution I needed or I'd have to wait forever for a graphically intense page to print. Also, the inkjet prints weren't very durable when walking through the rain to class. After being fed up with that, I searched out for low-cost laser printers and found this one. I tried it out and I love it. It's small (about a square foot for a footprint) and it's quiet (good for not waking up your room mate when you need to print stuff out @ 2am.) Granted, lasers seem pricey, but per page it's a lot cheaper. A toner tank'll last you about 3,000 pages, compared to an ink jet's 250-400 pages. And best of all, it's fast. Nothing's worse than waiting for a 14 page report to print out before class and you're going to end up being late if you have to wait for your 6-page-per-minute printer to do the job. This printer'll do it in less than half the time. The only downside to this printer, in my opinion (other than it's monochrome, so no color) is that it doesn't seem to like handling envelopes and labels very well. The alternate paper tray doesn't seem to be too friendly to having things fed into it. But for just about everything else, this printer's a definate thumbs up.

Summary: Great Printer
Review: My husband and I bought this printer after never ending frustration with ink jet printers and cartridges that were constantly running low. We've had this printer for over six months now and have had no problems with it. It does take a little time to warm up, but not long enough to be annoying. Also, it prints much faster than my old ink jet so any warm up time is more than made up for. It was easy to set up, easy to network and I have no complaints.

Summary: Repair Problems
Review: I purchased the ML-1430 in June and it worked great for a few weeks. All of a sudden it started to emit a loud noise from the motor and quit working a few days later. The repairs were covered by warranty and the motor had to be replaced. The technician also said the toner cartridge was ceased which may have caused the motor to fail. Unfortunately, the toner is NOT covered by warranty & I was charge $99 for a new one.

I don't know if my case was unusual but if you have any similar symptoms, return immediately since you don't want the motor to fail after the warranty period!

Summary: What a joke
Review: I purchased this and printed about 100 pages and it quit. The light status indicated a fuser alarm so I called customer service and was told that the unit must be replaced. I received a used/reconditioned unit as a replacement and I had to pay the return shipping. I have worked with Samsung tech support for hours to try get the repalcement to work without success. I hope that Amazon will allow me to return this unit even though it has been more that 30 days. If I could rate the ML-1430 a 0 I would!!

Summary: DOA, twice over
Review: True third-world quality. DOA on both units. Also top loading mechanism is faulty and inconvenient. Noisy mechanical parts. Poor, poor, poor print quality. Who on earth wrote all the good reviews? Maybe they work for the company?

Summary: Excellent value!
Review: This printer was a great buy! Once the printer is warmed up, it is relatively quick to print. The toner saver feature is excellent because it reduces your overall toner cost. The price for this printer cannot be beat by any other laser printer. The print quality is really good!

Summary: Excellent ink jet replacement!
Review: I was tired of high ink jet page costs, and finally decided to buy a "real" printer. I'll never look back. This printer is extremely fast and affordable. Using its toner save feature produces results barely lighter than "normal". The toner save feature yields an incredible 1.9 cents per page cost, as it raises the toner rating to 3500 pages. My only minor complaint is that it's not as fast upon initial warmup vs. HP printers (HP - 15 seconds, Samsung - 40 seconds). I'd definitely recommend this printer to friends and anyone who is sick of payiing outrages ink cartridge prices.

Summary: ML 1430 Good & affordable for Mac OSX
Review: ML 1430 was a solution that I was looking for. Simple home b/w laser printer with small footprint and good performance. Samsung brand has Mac OS X driver so I installed it in less than 5 minutes and its speed and reliability are just fine. Very satisfied. Besides, Samsung gives you three months warranty extension for your product survey.

Summary: Beware of Rebate program.
Review: I purchased this printer due to the low price after considering the rebate that was available. For that price, the printer is a good buy and the quality of this printer is good in view of that price. However, after going to all the trouble of mailing in all of the required documentation for the rebate on April 15, 2003 I did not receive the rebate. When I phoned I was told they never received my mail and unless I had copies of everything, the rebate would not be honored. Luckily I had taken the extra time to scan all of the required information, including the seriel number cut from the box and faxed the information in to them again - twice. They have now confirmed receipt of the required documentation but I am still waiting for my rebate as of June 19, 2003. Do not rely on receiving a rebate by mailing in your forms. Make copies of everything or else your mail will probably be "lost" as well. Companies that engage in these rebate hurdles should be exposed and consumers should be aware of these tactics.

Summary: Perfect for a Home
Review: This isnt some fancy super duper laser printer, but if you never want to buy cartridges again and dont care about color its perfect. It prints quickly and sharply and the toner is only 60 bucks. You cant go wrong with this printer for home use and probably many small stores as well. Double sided pages come out fine too, no smearing or anything like that.
