Summary: ML-1710 Laser Printer
Review: Fair printer, but does an absolutely lousy job on printing envelopes. Also after 350 pages of operation, the overall print quality is getting lighter. I wrote Samsung, they sent me a new firmware patch. I installed it, reset the printer and I think it got worse. The envelope printing is almost too light to read now. I cannot recommend this printer if you want to print envelopes.

Summary: Not suitable for printing ebook
Review: It has been only one week since I bought Samsung ML-1710 Laster Printer. I still like the simple design and speed of the printer.
The problem is while printing a lot of documents and ebooks.
A paper or paper get stuck quite often.
The jamming problem would be one of the most frustrating problems found in a printer. It's also time consuming to get of the jammed paper and to start printing from where I stopped.
The heat produced from the printer curls paper a lot and it does not even look nice and flat. Sometimes I had to put a stack of printed papers between my encyclopedia and stepped on it to flattend them.
And today,I made a decision to take it back tomorrow afternoon.

Summary: Excellent reliable solid machine - no double sided though
Review: For the price, this turned out a very sensible purchase. I wanted a low volume, reliable, solid laser printer. For the last 4 months this is exactly what it has been. It has a lot more solid feel than you would expect for this price. Inkjets at this price feel flimsy. Now the trial cartridge is wearing out, I need to drop $80 on a real one, but I knew that going in, and it's supposed to be good for 3000 pages, which will last me forever. Unlike most computer peripherals these days, the driver software doesn't suck. It's actually both pretty looking and functional. It has never had issues with plugging/unplugging the USB cord or switching the printer on/off in the middle.

The one thing I wish it had was double sided. Instead I have a little procedure that i have to go through. I set it to print only odd pages (it has this option hidden away in advanced page setup) then put the paper back in the tray and print even pages. The key is to remember how to flip the paper: the side you want to print on, should be towards you, at the front, facing down. The nice thing is, that this just means that you take the output pile on top of the printer, turn it upside down, and put it back in without rotating it, then print the even sides. This will give you double sided.

Summary: Good at first. Wanna buy mine?
Review: As some others have said, this printer looks like a good deal. The performance in terms of speed has always been good. However, even during the first week of using the printer (and not that often, I might add), I noticed that the printing was very uneven. It prints very light, and that's not even in the Toner Save mode. I have yet to go through even one ream of copy laser paper, and the toner has shut down on me. Now, whether it's the printer or the toner, I don't really even care at this point, because the bottom line is that you should get a good laser work product when it's done. It's probably the toner, but since the toner costs around $80 a piece, it's almost as much as the printer itself. I know, I know... they're all priced like that - much like razors. The handles are cheap but the blades are expensive. Still, I expect toner to last for more than 300 copies or so. Instead of buying a new toner cartidge and taking the chance, I think I'm going to buy a new printer altogether.

I never write reviews, but I read them a lot. This is one time that I thought I would help you guys out and help out.

Summary: a mix of good and bad
Review: I have been using the Samsung ML-1710 for a few weeks now. I use it in an office, where I am often printing on blank paper, but also need to print on letterhead and envelopes pretty frequently. I've been impressed with the speed and print quality of the 1710, but it has some quirks you might want to consider before you buy it. As others have mentioned, it takes a long time to warm up (to receive the data from the computer) and it's noisy while doing so. To use the manual feed tray - which I do for envelopes and letterhead - you have to go in and tell it to use this feeder and then set the option back to use the regular paper tray. Other printers I've used seem to be able to figure this out on their own. You also have to wait for the printer to warm up before putting anything in the manual feed tray, otherwise it just cycles through and comes out with nothing printed on it. The most annoying thing is that envelopes come out with light printing on them, as if the "toner save" feature is on. I have contacted tech support about this. They sent me a "firmware upgrade," a software program that's supposed to fix the problem, but I couldn't get it to work on my computer or a co-workers. I contacted tech support again, but they didn't have any other solutions other than to send it back to them to have the upgrade installed. So I guess I would say, the printer is not bad for the money, and it has its good points, but you will have to tolerate a few annoyances (and, probably, light envelopes).

Summary: Bad Quality
Review: I thought I had a deal when I bought Samsung's ML-1710 Laser Printer... The Printer worked great for about three months. Now it prints uneven. What I mean is that there are light uneven spots. I thought it was bad toner. I poped 90 bucks out and bought a new genuine Samsung toner. The same results. It's obviously not the toner, but the workman ship. Samsung, it's true that when a customer has a good experience, he would tell ten other people, and when they get a bad experience, he would also tell ten other people. When ever anyone asks me, which is quite a few, i would tell them to avoid Samsung.

Summary: Big time problem with this printer
Review: At first, I liked this printer. After a while, I found out that it cannot print certain pdf files (I am using windows XP). Just some pdf files, not all. Strange. The printer will make that noise, as if paper is about to come out, but nothing is printed, and no paper is coming out. Updated driver, same problem. Contacted so-called customer service, send them the problematic pdf file, which by the way can be printed to a HP printer. They told me to update driver, which I have already told them that I have done. Few days later, they told me to try a Lexmark driver. Each response from them is a one-liner. The Lexmark driver didn't help (it is making progress, a blank page will come out, using the samsung driver there isn't a blank page). I pleaded with them to just print the pdf file I sent them, instead of these back-and-forth. Dude, you get what you paid for. If Samsung wants to catch Sony, they have a way to go. So now I have this printer that might or might not print, greaaaaat!

Summary: Satisfied customer
Review: No problems with WinXP installation. Print quality very good, and 600 DPI doesn't slow it down perceptibly. I prefer 600 dpi; crisp and not too dark.

Excellent value. Note: it is clearly stated that the included toner is only a partial 1/3 load (1000 pages); I kept it as a spare and installed a full one. It has lasted over a month of fairly heavy use. No jams or paper problems after 1000+ pages.

Paper loading is easy, but you DO have to push down on a spring at the front of the paper tray before loading. No big deal, but perhaps some people don't read instructions and may have jams.

Summary: Quickly uses expensive toner
Review: Any savings by purchasing this cheap printer will soon be overcome by costs on toner. I bought this as a replacement for HP 1100, which broke after several years. The main problem I have encountered is that the cartridge only prints about 1000 pages. That means you have to fork out either $80 for a new cartridge or $50 for a refill. The HP could do about 3-4000 pages on a single $40 cartridge.
