Rating: Summary: cheap printer for the long haul Review: The Brother HL-1440 feels solid and prints a nice clean page. I have purchased many printers and prefer those that pick up sheets from a horizontal tray like this one - vertical feeds are more likely to jam occasionally (or often). Setting up the HL-1440 in Windows 98 with a usb cable produced a minor glitch that was easily overcome. Although the 1440 only ships with two megs of ram, all you have to do is blow the dust off any old 72 pin simm you can find, snap it in the back, and start it up again with up to 34 megs depending on the chip. I did it with an 8 meg edo simm and it worked like a charm. Misfed sheets, clogged print heads, blotchy ink marks and wasted money are in the past when you move from an inkjet to a laser.
Rating: Summary: Great little laser printer! Review: After doing quite a bit of research online, I finally decided to purchase the Brother HL-1440. I'd considered the Samsung ML1210, which is a bit less expensive, but decided to go with the HL-1440 mainly because of it's higher resolution and support for Windows XP and Mac OS X.Setup was as easy as plug-and-play - literally. Printing is lightning quick and the text output is extremely sharp, even in 600 dpi mode & toner saving mode. Time will tell how the printer does, but for now I'm satisfied with my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Economical and efficient Review: Pros: Inexpensive, good quality, easy to use, easy to print envelopes, better value than an inkjet. Cons: 2MB of memory isn't enough to hold a large print job (over 100 pages of text). If you need it for that then get an upgrade. Overall: I love this printer. It's great for home use where you only print a few pages at a time and don't need the highest in quality. I've run labels off of it too. Much better than an inkjet and more cost effective in the long run.
Rating: Summary: Nice printer! Review: After owning a variety of inkjets, and not really needing color capability, I decided to look into a laser printer. I read several positive reviews on this printer so decided to get it. I am glad I did. It is a very nice printer. Compact, good quality, good speed, and a good value! Tom
Rating: Summary: Consider Tech Support Review: This printer arrived yesterday and I'm sending it back. It was very easy to set up and did a good job printing plain paper. I moved up to mailing labels and the first sheet jammed. I then discovered that there was no owner's manual, but a CD-ROM. After loading the CD, discovered that it was written at a kindergarten level (open cover, remove page, close cover). I tried to log onto their web site for tech support, but found that it was slow and contained little troubleshooting information. Customer support is very important to me, so I decided to send this back. I have not been impressed with Brother. This may be the best bargain out there, but be careful.
Rating: Summary: Brother HL 1440 Review: Best printer I've owned. Fast, quiet, excellent print quality. Delivery was fast. I read an earlier review from a person who had difficulty, but I experienced no delay at all. Highly recommend for purchase.
Rating: Summary: Brother HL 1440 Review: It does what they say it will do. Easy to set up, great print quality, fast and quiet.
Rating: Summary: Where is it? Review: Okay, the product probably rates a 5 from everything I've read. Unfortunately, I have no personal knowledge to judge this product; despite a claim of being "in stock" and shipping "in 1-2 days", its now been several weeks and I still have no printer! Its been charged to my credit card, but every day I check the status of the order & every day the delivery date keeps getting pushed back. But notice, potential buyers, that this item *STILL* says it will ship within days 2-3 days of your order. If you need this item shipped in a timely manner, perhaps you should buy it elsewhere. Beware!
Rating: Summary: Brother HL-1440 Review: Excellent performance and value.
Rating: Summary: Brother HL-1440 by far outperforms similar competitive units Review: Was up and running within 30 minutes. Beats the higher priced HP units in quality, speed, ease of set-up and operation. Toner cartridges are also reasonably priced. This is my first Brother printer and I will eventually replace all my HP printers with this unit or other Brother models.
