Summary: An excellent all-purpose printer for both text and graphics
Review: I bought this printer because I need to print clear text for work and also want to print good photos and other graphics. Most products, especially in the low to midrange, do one or the other better (or suck at both), but so far (after a week) this one has excelled at both tasks. The text clarity comes very close to a laser printer, even for small text, and the photo quality is just amazing, especially given the printer's price. It also offers easy two-sided printing, which I use a lot to save paper when printing articles, and comes with a photo-paper cartridge to make photo printing easier. The setup process was simple and fast, and the software interface is easy to use.

I highly recommend the i860 if you're looking for a versatile, high-quality yet affordable printer. And if you're looking at the low end of the inkjet price range (which I was), seriously consider spending a bit more for this one. I'm SO glad I did.

Summary: Previously Owned the Canon i850
Review: After returning the Canon i850 due to a defect the sales manager at Best Buy informed me that it had been upgraded and I was thrilled!!! The i850 was incredible and now....the i860 is just fantastic. I put it to the test since owning the i850, I printed the exact same picture with the i860 and the i860 takes the lead with its sharpness! It's much bolder, I love it. I never hesitated (due to the defect in my i850) to ask for the same printer when I was returning it-it was great and I had so many comments from scrappers (I do scrap booking) about my photo quality. Noone could believe that I printed my own pictures!!! I've recommended it to several scrappers and my scrap book supplier. I'm glad that if they decide to purchase the i850 they will get a little bonus--the upgraded i860!! Love the paper tray too!

Summary: Great Bang for Your Buck!!
Review: This printer prints beautiful pictures! I was amazed at the quality of the prints. Don't know why you would want to spend any more. I would recommend using Canon Matte paper - great photo details. For non-photo printing, the black text looks almost laser quality. This printer comes with a larger black ink cartridge for everyday printing. Very easy to set up, just follow the quick set up guide and you're set to print.

Summary: fantastic output, reasonable price
Review: This is a great printer. It took me 15 minutes to unpack and install, and from the first print I got marvelous results with the default color profile -- fast output, vibrant color, sharp detail. The printer itself is very reasonably priced. However to get the best results you must use Canon's (expensive) OEM photo paper and ink. I've had good results with both the 'Plus' and 'Pro' paper, so stock up on the (cheaper) former unless you need the long life of the Pro.

Summary: Great Printer & love Easy-WebPrint Sept 29, 2003
Review: After my last review for the i850, I returned the i850 for credit. Two weeks later I found a i860 WHICH IS GREAT!! I'm glad I returned the i850.

i860: I highly recommend the i860 with "ContrastPLUS": "Canon launches the next evolutionary step in digital printing with the introduction of ContrastPLUS, an advanced 5 color ink system. Offering the best of both worlds, the i860 printer delivers exceptional black text quality with a pigment-based black ink. Plus, it provides true 4 color photo printing with a photo black ink for improved image contrast and overall photo sharpness".

I had complained about image contrast and sharpness and not being able to get true RED. Had the same results (Got ORANGE instead of RED) on Canon Photo Pro and Great White Photo & Imaging (Matte) paper. The i860 improved these items except I was not able to get a true RED but at least I could get an orangy-red.

ALSO, this printer comes with EASY-WEBPRINT. I have been looking for this software for YEARS !! EASY-WebPrint: "automatically analyzes and formats web pages so they will print with full color and WITHOUT TRIMMING OFF THE RIGHT-HAND MARGIN. Thank you Canon !!!

PS: I print hundreds of photos on Great White IMAGING AND PHOTO (MATTE) paper for my family photo album. On my HP 932C printer, I get a great print in full color. The HP 932C is slow. On the i850, the pages were "slightly wet" on the back side on the same paper. No problem with the i860. Also, when I talked with Canon about the trouble with the i850, they said the printer was made to use CANON paper!!!!!

Summary: Great photo printer!
Review: Let me preface this review with the fact that this is my first photo printer and I am using it for personal use only so I'm no expert. I just purchased this printer last weekend mainly for printing photos and so far, I am extremely impressed! I bought greeting card software as well and I've printed some incredible cards too. I really like the 5 separate ink cartridges - one is for black text printing only which I think will save a lot of money in the long run. The photo printing seems fast enough to me (under a minute for a 4X6) and the text printing is even faster than I expected - much faster than my HP LaserJet4L. I was planning to use the Canon for photos only but I think it will become my only printer. One other feature that I really like is the 4X6 attachable paper feeder - makes printing photos basically fool proof.

For around $150 + some good photo paper, you are printing pictures as good as any photo lab I've had mine printed at. Plus fast, cheap text priting. A++ printer for the price in my opinion.

Summary: Excellent Value for both office and photo
Review: Just purchased the i860. I was going to purchase the i950, but the sales rep talked me into the less expensive, but newer, i860. So far, all systems seem go.

I got the printer mainly for office applications, and it's fast enough to do most of the printing I require on a day to day basis.

Canon was nice enough to include a 5 pack of 4x6 pro photo paper with the printer, so I decided to print a couple of pictures from my computer.

I must say I was very impressed with both the speed and the quality of the prints. I had a print in less than a minute and it looked as good as most professionally developed prints.

It does take 5 inkjet cartridges, but one is dedicated for normal black printing, which, theoretically, cuts down on the cost of printing, or at least, doesn't penalize you if you only use the printer for black text.

I made sure that compatible cartridges were available as well before I bought, because you can save a lot of money by purchasing them instead of the actual Canon cartriges. 1800inkjets.com stocks the cartridges for this printer, so I figured I would save a little. I'm not sure of any of the other online inkjet sites, but I think they might as well.

Overall, I would recommend this printer. It's quiet, extremely fast, nice looking and has done just about everything I needed it for a little better than I expected.

Summary: Too good to be true...
Review: I am in the process of buying this printer since i have heard so many good things about it. But so far i haven't seen any reviews since it is so new. Does anybody out there have anything to say about this printer? I'd like to hear what people have to say about it before i buy it. Let the games begin with the reviews....

Summary: Quality printer, especially for the money
Review: I wanted to buy the i960, but the store was out, so I went with the lesser model, knowing, through research, that this was also a good buy. I had a photo printer (HP 7350) for about two weeks before I moved my furniture and it fell and broke. In those two weeks, I kept wondering, 'Is this as good as it gets for digital printing'? Well, it took me a year, but I finally bought another printer. And the pictures are GORGEOUS. My camera is only 1.2 MP (was a lot when I bought it). But the pics I took turned out great. Other than the timestamp stretching out beyond the border, you would never know this was from a printer.

Granted, this review is from someone that has used it for one evening, but my standards are relatively high for a very amateur photographer. And so far, I'm thrilled. Hopefully if I keep it clean, it will keep giving me these great prints...
