Summary: 3 Epson printers 640/670/825XEP good printers
Review: I have had Hp printers, they are real workhorses, printing sharp text but when I decided to try color printers 2 years ago. I read about the Color printers available and choose Epson because of the 1400x720 resolution, though I rarely use that high a rez. I usually use 720x720 dpi and the pictures come out pretty good. I have not had any problems that can't be resolved by maintenance/cleaning the heads. It has fair prints text output, it could be a lone printer but I won't say its Laser quailty. I end by saying that it is a good printer and has resulted in me buying other Epson, printers. Even though the sells person recommend HP or even now Canon. I bought the Epson photo printer and It is the best printer for the money. I saved two hundred dollars or more, and I am very satisfied with my choice of all three Epson printers. I do own a Laser printer for the heavy b/w printing. The Epson would do, but it doesn't have to.

Summary: No go for quality
Review: I have had nothing but problems with my Epson printer since the day I bought it. I have had constant smearing of the black ink, even though I have changed the cartridge and have used only the Epson brand, and have cleaned it many times, which, by the way, eats up a lot of ink each time you go through the process. Also, towards the bottom of the page, there is a line that doesn't print at all. This makes for the bottom half of a sentence or page number to be cut off. When I have talked to Epson tech support (on several occasions), they blame the line not printing on the margins set on my word-processing program. However, this explanation doesn't account for why the printer still prints below this particular faulty line. As for the ink, they tell me to clean the machine, which I have done a million times. It works for a few printings and then goes back to fuzzy printing. I give this printer a total thumbs down. Go for an HP. Also, my roommates had trouble printing clearly with the Epson 440 and had to return it. One last note, the machines are cheap when you buy them but the ink cartridges are small and very expensive. $21-$25 a pop for a Black ink cartridge every 5 months adds up. Also, to actually talk to someone in tech support, you have to pay for the long-distance call. Not a good deal all around.

Summary: Text: 2 stars; Photos: 6 stars!
Review: If you plan on printing text (which most people do), don't get this printer. The text is fuzzy and slow in the coming. Get an HP. However, photographs come out best on this printer. Epson's 3 picoliter droplet and 1440x740 printing is the best. With this, the printer won't be the problem; the original will. I've found no way yet under a couple grand to get an original thats 7.375 x 9.75 @ 1440 dpi. However, my digital camera can manage a 131 dpi with Photoshop's help. The colors are vibrant and crisp. Looks perfect from 3 feet+ away. Up close there is a little dithering, but it goes away fast. HOWEVER...you CANNOT get these results on plain paper. It looks horrible on plain paper. You have to get the premium glossy paper for it. Its expensive, but worth it.

The ink cartriges empty very quickly, yet cost as much as HP's, so thats a drawback. But the only thing better then this for photos is Epson's stylus Photo series.

Summary: Noisy, Drinks the Ink
Review: If you want a noisy slow printer, purchase an Epson 600 Series. I do not print that much (maybe 300 sheets a year) and this printer has gone through 6 sets of cartridges during the 1.5 years I've had it. The heads clog easily as well, since they are fixed within the printer. HP Printers replace the heads each time you replace a cartridge.

Summary: Sometimes doesn't print
Review: Sometimes grunts and groans and then prints unintelligible characters- for pages if you don't remove the paper for the out of paper stop. Pressing the off button does't always shut it off. When it prints the output is very good on plain paper, though I don't have another ink jet for comparison. Maybe 2 1/2 stars.

Summary: Money Can Be Spent Better Elsewhere
Review: This printer is not worth the hastle. It eats ink cartridges like there is no tomorrow, breaks often, and does not have 1/8th the print quality of the newer inkjet printers on the market. My advice: spend the extra money to get a newer, higher quality printer in the first place rather than spending your money on this cheaper one now and then having to buy the newer one anyway when this one breaks.

Summary: Noisey printer
Review: This printer is so loud that I woke my sleeping mother up on the other side of the house. Frequent cleaning is needed to keep color pictures looking good. I would pass on buying this one.
