Summary: You get what you pay for
Review: I received this printer free with my Sony Computer and it is the worst printer I've ever had the displeasure of using. Noisy print jobs and frequent paper jams make this little piece of work a source of great frustration. And to top it all off, the ink cartridge gives you very little bang for your buck.

The Epson C40UX is the Pinto of printers, you're better off hiring a typing monkey because they both have the same amount of reliability and at least the monkey has the courtesy not to pretend to be able to do something it can't.

Review: I recieved this printer with My new Mac. I didn't expect much from it because it was free, but I was very supprised at the quality prints I got after fiddeling around in the print options. I am a first year graphic design major so this will help me out alot because i will be doing a ton of printing. no problems installing. It is very noisy and a couple of times it told me that there was a paper jam when there actually wasn't, no big deal. Overall I am happy and would have paid [...] for this if it had not been free.

Summary: one step below junk
Review: I should not complain about this printer, since I got a rebate that
was equal to the amount I paid for it when I bought an IMAC.
Essentially it was FREE.

The trouble is I cannot understand WHY a manufacturer would
make such a piece of junk, other than to TEST whether or not many consumers will buy a bad product through a REBATE deal.

The printer was incredibly slow in printing a page. It made a noise
louder than my small honda generator. (It actually made me laugh every time it printed a page). It DID make quality prints, which surprised me.
It had horrendous software, which made troubleshooting printing prob-
lems almost impossible. It was VERY difficult to get to the ink cartridges
since they had to mechanically move into the correct position to
change them. Finally after 9 months it died. The drive belt would not stay attached to the print head.

Please PLEASE I beg you, don't even get this printer free. It will eat
up all your time trying to get it to work.

Review: If you're looking at "low-end" printers, the choices come down to Canon, HP and Epson. I currently have all 3, and the C40 is my favorite. The Canon simply isn't made as rugged as the other two. The HP is the quietest, smoothest and most dependable printer due to its bottom-feed system but at a considerable cost in speed. The Epson is dependable enough, and when it misfeeds or jams, it's no big deal to fix the problem. And the noise is a small trade-off, in my opinion, for both the Epson's outstanding print quality and speed.

I suspect that some of the problems expressed by other owners are related to having the machine at its slowest setting and to the use of inferior "clone" cartridges. The reason these machines are so cheap is that the manufacturers make their profit in the sale of ink cartridges. The reason they sell so many of those costly ink cartridges, as many of us have discovered, is that many of the imitations not only perform poorly (sometimes not at all) but can gum up your printhead. Leaving a machine idle for an extended period of time will also lead to spotty quality. Still, I've always been able to restore the machine back to its original sharpness and consistency through several cleaning cycles using an Epson cartridge.

Review: It barely lasted a year. It broke a week after the warranty expired.

Summary: Great printer !
Review: Its lightweight, good looking, pretty fast, and prints great photos. Its USB connection is quite fast, its got a convenient paper input, paper output tray. The software supplied is great, especially for photos. Doesnt occupy too much of space. Simple to operate with just two buttons. I feel its pretty good for personal use in home or for students.
But it does make I think more amount of noise. This could have been better done with.
I have always liked Epson printers because they use a differnt technology than thermal inkjet printers, they give better resolution and ink dries quicker. the cartridges are also cheaper than HP. After all, in the long run, the cartridge cost matters much more than the initial cost of the printer.
On the whole, I feel its a winner with the 49.99 dollar price tag right now with the rebate. But yeah, as with most printers, it doesnt ship with a USB cable. But it includes both black and color ink cartridges.

Summary: Outstanding quality at an awesome price.
Review: Just purchased the Epson C40UX printer to replace a Lexmark that stopped working. I was on a budget and after doing some research decided to try the C40UX at only [price]! What a pleasant surprise! This machine prints flawlessly! Pros: nice size (not too big a machine); beautiful quality text and graphics; excellent low price! Cons: Very noisy; Black inktank is too small (will probably require many replacements if you do alot of printing); also, color cartridge is combined (separate ink tanks are more economical in my opinion).

Summary: little powerhouse
Review: Looking at the printer, it was very small and i kept wondering if it was a good buy. Just yesterday night i had to print 45 pages in the manner of 42 then 3 pages. It started work and kept working while my computer was stilling processing the last 3 pages the 42 were out. The print quality is good, no paper jams, yes it is a little powerhouse.

Summary: Epson C40 Printer
Review: Maximum value and quality for the money. Print quality approaching that of printers costing three times as much.
Noisy operation, but who cares! Added bonus is the availability of inexpensive refill cartridges.

Need a Budget printer?? Buy this one!!!
