Review: 6 months later I still haven't had the time to install the printer. Literature didn't tell me it only had USB interface, it didn't come with the USB cable or ink.

Summary: Excellent Value!!!
Review: For fifty dollars , this is an excellent printer. It is a bit louder than other printers, but the print quality is outstanding for the price range, if you need a printer to print mainly text documents black and in color , this is the printer for you.

Summary: Save Your Money
Review: I also received this printer free from Dell when I bought my computer last fall. It worked perfectly for about two weeks, during use of the first cartridge. Then the troubles began. Installed a new cartridge and nothing worked. Called Epson and went through the headcleaning process. My pages still came out pristine and white.

Then it was text only half printed. Ink smudges on pages. I managed to fight this printer to get through the school year, as it decided now and again to work perfectly. But that's small comfort when your paper's due and you can't print. I don't care so much if it can print pretty pictures, but when I can't depend on my printer for producing simple black text, that's worrisome.

I really don't care too much since it was free and now is gracing my garbage can. But please, do not spend money on this hunk of junk. It guzzles ink like beer flowing at a sports bar on game day in one instance then refuses to print at all following installation of a new cartridge. The cartridge key was finicky when I tried to change the ink. After wasting a lot of ink, time, and paper, I'd had enough.

Epson's higher quality printers I've heard to be fine pieces of technology. Too bad they spend so much time and effort on the high end that their bargain pieces are shoddy dross. You can do much better for the same price. Think about it. What sort of printer is the kind given away free? Probably one the manufacturer couldn't sell. The money that would have been spent on this piece of garbage went towards a Lexmark (a Z45) that works beautifully, and I have a rebate to cash on it besides. Try a Lexmark, an HP. Anything but this. You're worth it.

Summary: Ink Scheme makes Epson ...
Review: I bought it, it worked great. 50 prints later, Black ink is nearly empty. No prob, I think, I'll just change this text color to red and use up the color ink. This worked for a while, then I got the "BLACK INK IS EMPTY" error, and the
printer efused to print without a new black ink cartridge.

Summary: Junk printer, do not buy it
Review: I bought one from Dell but this printer runs out ink so quickly. I have printed less than 10 black-white pages for the first box of ink. I bought another one and it ran out before I printed 5 pages!!!
And for the color part, I ONLY printed 2 pages and today I found all ink is gone!!
Do not buy it, unless you want to pay for the ink every 10 pages!!!

Summary: User freindly and fully functional epson printer.
Review: I bought this epson c40ux as my first printer.I wont b.s about it,I bought it because it was by far the cheapest. And there were some good reviews on it(and yes, some bad ones also)I use it with an xp program.I found that it installed practically on its own(I'm talking about a matter of mere minutes!!)It has a print wizard that makes it very user-freindly.It takes very good copies of net documents and photos.I like the quality of my digital photos. While they could be better,I am more than satisfied for the price that I paid...Would I recommend this printer as a first printer?Absolutely!!!Compare price and performance and this is a great little printer.

Summary: Short life span
Review: I bought this printer for Xmas 2001. Within four months it didn't want to let the ink through. I parked it for three months while I used my old printer, then tried it again and it worked fine. Today, (February 2003) I printed out a page and after it finished printing, a message came up telling me that parts in my printer need replacing and it now refuses to work. There was no indication of any problems. Only two months after the warranty is up and it is toast. For all the use I got out of it, it was not worth the money, and also not worth the money to send it away to have it fixed. Completely disposable!! and it didn't get all that much use.
