Rating: Summary: Bubbling Over for the S600 Bubble Jet Review: I just printed my first 4X6 photo with the S600, and it's worth a thousand words! Clear, sharp, flawless, no spots, no lines--just rich, vivid color. I can hardly believe I got it right the first time--and it was so easy with Canon's Photo Paper Pro professional-quality photo paper! I've had my S600 for a couple of months, mostly printing resumes, reports, notes, envelopes, spreadsheets, etc. I usually use the draft mode on grayscale, and the quality of the finished product still rivals that of laser printers. I've found this printer to be relatively quiet, extremely economical, and surprisingly fast. Installation was a breeze, and I'm still using the smaller ink tanks that came packed with the printer! (IMPORTANT: If you're running Windows 95, you must use a parallel cable! A USB cable will not work--trust me on this!) I recommend the S600 to anyone who needs a great, all-around printer. Whether you're on a budget or not, you won't be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Amatuer digital photographer Review: This is the first printer I have owned and used at home so I really have nothing to compare it to other than the HP laser we have at the office. That said, I am very happy with this printer. I have been using it with my Koday DC280 digital camera (also purchased from Amazon after careful research), with excellent results. The pictures I just printed from a recent camping trip are virtually indistinguishable from 35 mm prints. Now don't get me wrong, you can tell the difference, but only with close inspection. For quick and easy pictures, I really like using the 4x6 Canon Glossy Photo Cards which are just as good as the Canon photo paper pro for about $4 less. I also looked at the S800 when shopping for a printer. The only difference I could see was the print speed was faster on the S800 and I think it uses a different type of ink. Whether the ink affects the photos or not I don't know, but they do call the S800 a photo printer. Without being able to compare the two head to head, I decided to save the $100 in price difference and I have no regrets whatsoever. I would also say that while I don't consider the S600 a "fast" printer like the reviewer who was dissatisfied with his, I wouldn't say it's slow either. I'd say it's just about right.Overall I am extremely pleased with this printer and would recommend it to anyone. The price is right and the pictures are wonderful. I really like to read all the reviews I can on a product before I buy it and put a lot of weight into what other customers think about their purchase. So there's my two cents, that's what you wanted right?
Rating: Summary: Best Ever Review: I bought this "refurbished" printer at a bargain price a year ago and could not be any happier with it. You don't have to replace the ink cartridge with one $$ investment. Instead you buy $$-$$ individual cartridges only for the color run out. Its great. I love the quality of the colors. Its my favorite printer ever.
Rating: Summary: An Absolute Steal Review: I needed a printer that could handle my heavy copy while being able to elegantly print out my slew of digital photography. After reading some user reviews and features for the Canon S600, I went ahead and purchased it. And it has been unreal. For less than $200, it doesn't make sense to buy another printer. With Photo Paper Pro paper and a digital camera, your images will have unsurpassed quality. The software installs easily, as does the printer itself. The refillable individual color ink tanks are terrific, saving you money in the long run, and the printer is more quiet than a whsiper. Black copy, whether in draft mode or enhanced, looks sharp and professional. Canon has outdone themselves with this printer, and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a unit than can match high-quality images with high-quality printouts. The resolution is unbelievable for both color images of your most recent vacation and your crisp resume. Simple, affordable, quality -- it's perfect.
Rating: Summary: SLOW; Bad Software Review: Sometimes this machine is horribly, horribly slow. It does not seem to depend on what my computer is doing. It can be up to three minutes per page. And usually it slows down just when I need it to [speed up]! Also, the software leaves much to be desired. I can't program in my preferences and have to keep clicking time after time that I want "draft" mode or "reverse pages."
Rating: Summary: Don't believe all reviews are true! Review: I bought the Canon S600 Printer 2 weeks ago and I'm not happy. 1. It prints 1 PAGE OF TEXT IN 3 MINUTES (on parallel port) and 2.3 PAGES IN 1 MINUTE (on USB port), both in draft mode. 2. Don't expect much help from Canon support technicians: they'll beat you around the bushes until you get sick and tired and give up any help. No return possibility or exchange with another printer is available from Canon. 3. Don't expect to print more 218 text pages on 1 cartridge of black ink. 4. Even my Lexmark Z11,Xerox and HP 600 printers are much faster. 5. If you want to print in duplex mode, this one doesn't do it--you have to turn each page around by hand. 6. The only good thing: the print and colors are significantly clearer than all other printers cited above. So, before bying a Canon printer, think minimum 5 times!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Value...good product Review: Have had this printer for about a year now at least. Output quality is excellent, but maybe I just haven't figured out printing pictures the optimal way. Consumable cost is reasonable, but I wish third party refills were a good option. Printing speed is slow at times, but being a home user I really can't justify paying more for a faster printer. Overall very happy with purchse.
Rating: Summary: Great graphics and text Review: I have been using this printer since 11/01 and have nothing but praise for it. With the exception of the kiniptions it goes through when it is first turned on this printer has both speed and print quality. I am using mine on a HP laptop via parallel port and sharing it on a home network. Ink lasts a long time and is inexpensive to replace. Never had a paper jam or mis printed page with over 2500 sheet pulled through. Have also printed many photos on photo paper with great results (thats when the ink really gets used). Overall a quality printer at a great price.
Rating: Summary: No print sharing in windows. Review: It's funny, I'd always understood printer sharing to be a nowmal window feature. As long as both computers have the proper driver for a printer, one can share a printer to the other. This is not the case for this printer. After spending a couple of weeks getting it working, I sent a note to Canon's tech support. Their response? "Unfortunately, this printer was not designed to be shared across a network." We have three different computers around the house, used by three different people. This printer isn't exactly portable, so just hauling it around to whatever computer needs it is just unreasonable. I am very disapointed that this very basic functionality has been omitted.
Rating: Summary: Great quality, dirt cheap cartridges Review: I love this printer. Great quality and dirt cheap cartridges. Takes 4 cartridges, one for each color. Each lasts a long time and only costs a couple bucks on the third party market. Much much less expensive to operate than other name brand printers.
