Summary: Excellent low priced printer
Review: I've had experience with close to 10 printers in my computing life, and I must say that this Canon is a pleasant surprise. Small and light, it is very easy to use and prints very clear text. The setup was extremely minimal, using a cd-rom disc it comes with which guides the very short setup process. It works well with my Dell Dimension 4100, and the 4 ink tanks can be purchased as needed.

I am an English major and have printed lots of literature and reports with it, and I was able to use it for 5 months before replacing any cartridge (though with your own printing conditions this time period may vary.) The cartridges themselves at around $12 to $15 each were not hard to find, and all 4 only cost me about $50. It comes with a small hard plastic ink tank holder for keeping around spare ink tanks out of the box (leave them in the plastic though!). The ink tanks fit inside an ink cartridge which comes with the printer which doesn't have to be replaced. The ink tanks themselves can be replaced one at a time, and they click into place inside the printer easily. The print head must be aligned after replacing one or all four on the ink tanks, but this is also easy to do-- the computer properties box guides you through the process, which takes all of 3 minutes. If you have any questions, the cd-rom comes with a full product instruction guide viewable on your computer with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

This printer will cost you under $100 any way you slice it, and I have had mine for a full year with no problems. The printing speed is fine, and the printer itself is not any louder than any other bubble jet or ink jet printer. The printer will prompt you onscreen if an ink cartridge is low or if the paper runs out. Even with a low ink warning, I was able to print regular text for well over a month, though if you are looking to print graphics or pictures the individual color will need to be replaced sooner so as not to affect the dyes of the graphic. The paper guide is thin plastic and a little flimsy, but it does the job.

Overall I recommend it to anyone who simply wants a small, affordable, quality printer for text, internet webpages, and small to medium sized color pictures and photos. It will more than pay for itself in the long run. For the price you can't go wrong.

Summary: Still as good as the day I bought it . . .
Review: It took nearly three months for me to print one page with this printer. Why? The printer I bought came with a faulty ink cartridge. I mailed it in and over a month later received another printer, with another faulty ink cartridge. A month later I actually received a working cartridge from the fine folks at Canon- at least they were nice- and finally I am able to use my printer. Sort of.

Now instead of the six orange flashing lights, I'm getting four and three and sometimes they're green, and all the while this thing grunts and grinds and shakes back and forth like some wild-eyed shivering hog.

It prints sideways, it grabs ten sheets at once, it won't grab the paper at all, and heaven forbid the black ink actually come out black instead red and green and blue.

This printer has made me reexamine my faith. No benevolent being could unleash this beast upon the world. For your own well-being, please steer clear of this monstrosity.

Summary: It worked fine for about a year with little or no problems--
Review: then it started showing those "orange" lights indicating a paper jam. There isn't any!!! I have done everything possible to get it working correctly, including re-installing the drivers. Nothing works - all I get is the green and orange flashing lights. I'm ready to toss it. I was pleased with it at first because it was very economical and easy to use. I can't figure out what happened to it!!!!

Summary: 5 Star Printer
Review: This machine delivers ALL that it advertises and more. Excellent copies in color and black & white. Very easy to use and the ink- tank system is the only way to go. Fairly low cost of ink and uses an average amount of ink. You can't buy a less expensive machine with as many dependable features as this one. For in home, average use, it can't be beat!

Summary: Decent printer, great price
Review: This printer is a fairly good value, especially because of the nice way the color cartridges are set up. I routinely use 2 blue ink trays for 1 of red and yellow, so it works out great for me. However, a problem I've noticed with this printer is that it often prints crooked, even though I routinely re-align the print head. However, for the price, it's held up for me really well - even through more research papers than I'd like to count.
