Description:
The Lexmark Z55SE offers an ideal balance of speed and performance, making it a great choice for those who need to print text in a hurry or produce high-resolution color photos. The unit is simple to install via a USB port, although no USB cable is supplied in the box. Included in the box are an easy-to-use CD-ROM containing the necessary drivers, and two ink cartridges--one for black and one for cyan, magenta, and yellow. Onscreen installation instructions are intuitive, and the two ink cartridges clip easily into place. Within five minutes you can be up and running. The Z55SE offers up to 4,800 x 1,200 dpi resolution and quotes speeds of up to 17 ppm for monochrome and 13 ppm for color. These speeds are ambitious even for draft quality. However, text output is prompt, and when you raise the quality settings, the output is crisp with solid blacks. Color photos require several minutes, but on high-quality paper, the results are sharp with little noticeable banding. The highest-quality setting does use a lot of ink, so it's worth experimenting with the settings, as dropping the quality a notch does produce quicker, more economical prints. The Lexmark Z55SE is solidly constructed for its class. It comes with a mature driver that helps you maximise its capabilities and produces great results. While offering a step up in performance over Lexmark's value models, the Z55SE is still affordable, making it a great choice for the home. --Jason Weston
