Rating: Summary: Good price and good product Review: I spent $69 for this All-In-One printer. Everything works fine and I'm glad I didn't buy the Lexmark Trio. All 3 major functions I'm pretty satisfied. And so far, (it's been 4 moths already) I didn't have any problems. Install is quite easy and you don't get forced to install unwanted software. So for a $69 machines, I gave it 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: terrible printer Review: I thought my cx3200 was just a 'friday built' one - but no. I have used two identical models and they all had the same problems.
It has a dreadful sheet feeding mechanism, randomly it will grab 1, 2, 10 or all of the paper in the sheet feeder. Even if you are lucky enough for it to only grab one sheet, it often skews the paper.
The text print quality is poor. Surely this is a basic function any printer should perform adequately?
Also, the printer decides when the print cartridges need replacing. And you cannot use the other cartridge until the empty cartridge is replaced.
Rating: Summary: Jams **all the time** Review: I'm more likely to get a paper jam with this printer than actually have something print. It's so ridiculous that I've just stop using this printer and am returning it to Epson this week. I recomment you *not* invest your money in this awful printer.
Rating: Summary: What a disappointment Review: I've been trying to get this printer to work for three days with no luck. I have a Mac operating on OS X 10.3.3 and downloaded the latest printer driver off the Epson site. Every time I try to print, the printer stalls out on me ("Print job stopped"). I've uninstalled and installed again, to no avail. The Epson help site is useless. All my previous printers have been HPs and I wish I had stuck to them. This printer is also the loudest machine I've ever had -- really annoying. In all, I'd say I wasted $50 (after rebate) on what looks like a very large and ugly doorstopper. Don't buy this machine!
Rating: Summary: Doesn't live up to expectations Review: It's very loud and constantly has paper jams. I'm returning this printer for another one (and I'll make sure my new printer isn't as huge as this one)
Rating: Summary: ITS NOT BAD by a above 13year old kid Review: The first couple of prints worked fine. Everything looked ok and matched the standards of my understandings of a ink jet printer. But it soon turned bad. Whenever I leave the printer off for a period of time (1 week, 2 weeks) the black ink gets amazingly clogged up and prints horribly. So I have to clean print heads all the time. It comsumes a "considerable" amount of ink every time I do this so in the end this procedure is inevitably going to ruin me. Not only financially but also mentally this printer is beginning to mess with me. I cannot under any circumstances recommend this printer to anyone.
The built-in scanner on the other hand has never caused me any problems. But it would be stupid to buy this printer-scanner just to get the scanner when the whole beast is so incredibly gigantic and takes up so much space. The size also makes it impossible to overlook constantly reminding you of the fine deal you made when buying this monster.
Oh, I forgot to mention that it is noisy as well.
However this is just my opinion based on the printer issued to me. I cannot guarantee that I haven't just recieved a bad specimen of the breed but still that would be weird and unacceptable.
Regards
MKSG
Rating: Summary: Paper loading and feeding a hassle. Scan not square. Review: The printing is OK (although I had to clean the heads once in the year I had it and use it regularily).Loading the paper and getting to sit correctly can be a hassle, especially if it is in a high position like the top shelf of an armoire. If it does take in a sheet of paper, it will print crooked and shred one side of the paper. This weekend the printer would rarely print one page in a row without having to readjust the paper. Scanning pictures is interesting. One day, no matter how hard I tried to make it square, it came out crooked. This was exasperting to the point where I just stopped. I owned an Agfa Snapscan 1212 but it was old and did not have XP drivers. It worked so well it really puts this unit so shame. When doing OCR scanning, there is no way to shift the document to landscape if that is the orientation of the original. The OCR software is not seperate so you would not be able to scan as an image and bring into the OCR program.
Rating: Summary: Clogged Heads and Scanner Errors Review: The product produces good scans, text, and pictures. The software is simple but adequate, the buttons and menu on the unit are easily understood, and Epson has great customer service; but there are two issues to beware of. One is that at least the earlier units have been prone to producing a scanner error that frequently renders the scanner useless until the user goes through a series of hoops, including unplugging the unit to clear it's memory. But even more bothersome is that if the unit is not used several times a week and head cleanings are not done frequently, the heads clog beyond repair. After the warranty wears out, that leaves the user with a rather large desk ornament.
I began with the 3200 that Epson soon replaced under warranty with two different 3200 units followed by a 5200 and finally a 5400. Yes, I am on my fifth Epson multifunction printer in a year and three months! On the 3200 and 5200 models I received a scanner error very frequently that had to be cleared out at least twice a week even if I did not use the scanner. I returned two of those within a month, so they didn't have time to develop clogged heads that would not clean as happened on my first, fourth and current unit. With this last one I've tried clearing the heads and ink tubes with the cleaning solution that some businesses sell, and it has been to no avail. It may help to use only Epson ink, but twice the heads clogged while using the new Epson cartridges that were sent with each unit!
I hardly ever left the printers on for even ten minutes after a print job and I always shut them off with their own power buttons, so I don't believe the problems were my error. I print approximately ten pages of text and an occasional web page or greeting card each week. Along with an occasional head cleaning, that is as much as Epson says is required to keep the heads clear. I suspicion that if one uses Epson ink and prints something every day the printer would keep functioning well, but those who print only occasionally should beware. Having new heads put in costs almost as much as a new printer!
With all that in mind, I am buying a Hewlett Packard 2175 and am taking advantage of the currently offered rebate. The color ink may cost more in the short run, but if the heads clog and won't clean, I can simply buy a new cartridge to get the printer up and running again (HP sells new heads with each cartridge) or I can take advantage of tricks such as soaking the heads in distilled water to care for the problem. Furthermore, without fear of ruining the printer, I can refill cartridges or buy remanufactured cartridges for much less cost than purchasing the needed genuine Epson ink for Epson printers. For the sake of your sanity, don't purchase the Epson without considering all of the above!
Rating: Summary: Does the Job Review: The usability and relialibility of this printer has been wonderful. The copy feature is easy to use, and it rarely jams. This is a low cost soultion to printing and copy needs.
Rating: Summary: Not a Great Choice Review: This scanner/printer/copier looks attractive and appealing and what a great price, right? Why shouldn't you buy it? Well... I bought this to replace an Epson 580 printer and an aging scanner and have several years experience with a variety of Epson printers. Right out of the box, a plastic tab broke off the printer cartridge carrier for the black ink. A bad sign? Within less than two weeks, the color became inconsistent on identical jobs from one printing to the next. Cleaning the printhead did not help this and there were no other troubleshooting suggestions available in the software or manual. The Epson color ink ran out very quickly in much less than the advertised printings, was expensive to replace, and even the black and white copying and all other functions ceased to operate until the color ink was replaced. The scanner was slow and the epson software that came with it was cumbersome. I returned this item and will not buy an all-in-one again. Epson printers have been a good choice for me before now. The all-in-one design is not truly functional.
