Rating: Summary: Better Value than the K60 Review: At...less than the K60, the v40 has the same resolution and features plus it will copy a color print in b/w which the K60 won't. The only drawbacks are that it is about 1 ppm slower than the K60 and it is USB only (the K60 is USB and parallel). Both are great machines but this one is the better deal in my opinion
Rating: Summary: Beware inaccurate tech specs Review: Beware! Amazon's Technical Details list "Windows 2000" as a system requirement. Note that this product's drivers do not run on Windows 2000 SERVER, only Windows 2000 PROFESSIONAL. Don't end up burned and disappointed by HP like I was. I have seen spec after spec of this printer say that it runs under "Windows 2000". That is less than half true at best, and downright misleading at worst.

Rating: Summary: typical HP product Review: Beware!!!!!!!!!! HP no longer supports Windows 2000 Server. Their latest drivers will not install on Windows 2000 Server at all!!!!!... This is unforgivable, seeing as how 2000 Professional and 2000 Server are virtually the same operating system...

Rating: Summary: Paper Feeder Jams ... Review: I bought this printer for work about 8 months ago, mainly for the fax machine, and I would NOT recommend it (and I can't say I wasn't warned, either); the feeder part doesn't take the paper very well ... no matter how carefully you put it in... and I mean with ALL different qualities of paper, too. It ends up wrinkling the paper and then you definitely can't feed it in. I am a very patient person, but this fax machine has raised my blood pressure more times than I can describe! (Once you get your paper fed into it, the quality of the print is okay, though) Good luck, if you buy it, but don't say you weren't warned ... and I paid [$$$$] for this headache.
Rating: Summary: Does what it should--and what I want--for the price Review: I got this machine as a replacement for another HP all-in-one machine--OfficeJet 710--and I can see already that this will do what the other one did and has an overall better design, since the document feed and the paper feed are not using the same port. I know that a lot of people out there (including all of the salesman at computer stores) and magazines like "Consumer Reports" do not recommend getting an all-in-one machine, but I have very limited space and really like having the fax utility without having a separate fax machine. There are times that I like having a fax much more than even having a computer. I'm able to fax prescriptions to my pharmacy for pick-up later, and--now that I have one set rate for all my phone calls (local and long distance)--I can fax government forms at 4 a.m. to Albany, New York at my leisure. Set-up with Windows ME was simple as could be and also it works quite well with my DSL connection. The only drawback--for some--is that the scanner is not a flatbed scanner, so if you're looking for a machine that can scan pages from books or magazines without having to tear out the page, this is not the machine for you. But I have found friends' flatbed scanners to be a royal pain in the you-know-what, so I don't think this will be a drawback for me. Machines that have flatbed scanners are just too big for the space I have allotted my machine. I have already tried it with my OCR software--which is my main reason for scanning--and it works just fine. Lastly, being able to buy this machine at 3 a.m. through Amazon when my old one finally gave up the ghost was the ultimate in convenience. Since Amazon discounts the machine and I didn't have to pay sales tax or pay for a taxi to drag the thing home (I'm a real New Yorker without a car), I didn't mind paying for delivery and I even opted for two-day delivery, which normally I'm too penny-pinching to do, and it came on the day it was promised. Ordered in the wee-hours of Sunday, delivered on Wednesday (Monday was a holiday); can't get better than that.
Rating: Summary: I love this device... Review: I have had my HP v40 for about 6 months now, and I have really enjoyed it. Not only does this device print, but it also copies, scans and faxes. First the printing quality is excellent for black and white, but also quite good with color. I think that the black and white speed is very good. I am a computer programmer, and author so I frequently print code and chapters when working or writing. Printing large chapters in Draft quality is twice as fast as my previous printer, the HP 722C, which I also thought was fast. I have attempted to print photos, with mixed results. Although I am not 100 percent sold on the scanning feature, I have used it before and it works pretty good. I still rely on my HP ScanJet for professional quality scans. Copying is pretty good on this device. You can modify the copy quality right on the device's control panel as you are making copies. I think that the Fine quality images/documents turn out looking really good, while the Normal quality leaves a little to be desired. The fax machine built into this device is really what sold me. I frequently need to fax dozens of pages at a time to various locations, and the feeder tray has never failed me; with this fax machine I have never had to resend a page yet - knock on wood. You are also supposed to be able to store numbers in the fax machine's memory, but I have yet to figure that out. In all, this is one of the best multipurpose devices I have ever purchased. I am very happy with it, and I highly recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the time and aggrivation Review: I have recently bought the officejet v40 and I am very unhappy with this printer. Attempting to install this product is a joke, using the product is a constant headache. I can not copy without getting an extra black line on my copies that runs from top to bottom, and the origional I am coping from does not have this mysterious line on it. I can not send or receive faxes, I can not scan, I can not align my print cartridges, and after three tries I can not try again. I didn't know until I read through reviews from other unhappy consumers that if you have windows XP, like I do, that you get nothing but problems with this printer. Everytime I have consulted the book that came with the printer, what I am having trouble with is never in the book. What happened to the troubleshooter section? Next time I am in the market for a printer, it definately will not be a HP product.
Rating: Summary: Bad Experience, not a good buy Review: I have the V40 2 months now. It's been giving me problem in receiving fax from selective people. Problem: 1. Can't receive fax (I connected it with a normal phone line.) 2. Take longer to set it up 3. The setup menu is a joke (what a shame! HP is a great name for many products that I have used in the past. Wake up HP!!) 4. Customer service is not a call told free number and is not 24 X 7 5. I send them an email describing my problem and what I got in return is a 13 pages documents without clear instructions. 6. I called Staple and they said that since I did not buy an extra warranty from them, they can help. Next time I will buy it from Best Buy where the service is friendlier 7. For some reason, I can received junk fax. Can anyone give me help? Can I return it to HP? Thank you
