Summary: Be Very Very Careful
Review: ...the printer comes without a Parallel Port Cable, making it more expensive and and timely to order, since Amazon.com does not carry the cable.

If it looks too good to be true, it may not be. I may well return this and ask for my money back.

Summary: Excellent value for the price
Review: First of all, this is a parallel port printer, is not USB, which is the most current technology and and what all current printers are using, or so the purists say. For me, this old technology is not a bad choice at all. I own a 4-port USB hub and it is already at capacity with my other peripherals, so I'm lucky my printer is not USB because I would have had to either purchase an additional hub or remove one of the other devices.

The printer is light, compact and very easy to install and setup (it has Plug N'Play technology).

There is only one ink cartridge slot available on the printer, you may either install a color catridge (12A1980) or a black-and-white only cartridge(12A1970). The cartrdiges are pricey and if you do a lot of heavy printing, the total cost of ownership will be very high in a very short term.

Printer speed is not the best, but you cannot ask for miracles at this price level. The good thing is that you can set up the print quality (draft, normal, best, custom) using the Properties option in Windows based on the document you are printing. This quality setup affects considerably the print speed and ink consumption levels. The factory default is Normal, but I changed it to Draft since I'm on the cheapskate group.

The printer software keeps an ink-level estimate, warning you when a replacement is near. I've found that the warnings are a bit on the early side and that you can print for a while longer after it occurs.

The only major problem I have found with the printer is the infamous paper jam (but who hasn't?) - Most of the times it has to do more with the paper and humidity factors than with the printer itself, but it is a pain to reset the printer after it happens.

I recommend this printer for anyone on a tight budget or if you are running out of the increasingly valuable USB ports.

Summary: Several problems
Review: I bought this printer a couple of months ago and while the setup went very smooth, I have encountered a few problems. First, the printer can only use one cartridge at a time and while it prints color pages beautifully, the black text is not too sharp when using the color cartridge and such a hassle to switch between two cartridges. Also, a few people have noted the price of the replacement cartridges... $35 for color and $30 for black. Don't bother looking for generic cartridges like the ones for Epsons and Canons cause there aren't any. The other problem with the printer is the way the sheets feed into it. Sometimes, two or three pages will feed into it and it will throw off the other pages already in the feeder, so you can't really leave the computer while you're printing out a 10 page report. As for the cheap cost of the printer, don't even fall for it. It's all a cheap ploy for Lexmark to force you into buying $35 ink cartridges for years to come.

Summary: Quality at a great price
Review: I bought this printer for my business for the sole purpose of printing black and white text. The price was the biggest factor in my decision (around $50 after rebate) and I was pleasantly surprised at the color capabilities this printer had. While it does print photograph color pictures rather slowly, they were of a much higher quality than I expected. If you are looking for a printer that is affordable and reliable, this is the product for you. Not to mention how friendly Lexmark printers are...when it tells you you are out of paper, and you load it, it even says, "Thank You." :-)

Summary: slow but lasted a while
Review: I had this printer for 4 years....it's great for basic stuff. but I now have a digital camera, and found a printer where I can insert the memory card from my digital camera and upload my pics easier.

this printer is kinda slow, only 4 pages per minute....
but, the quality is good, and it didn't need any service in 4 years.

great for everyday use
but now that i'm getting into photos....I needed a better printer

Summary: Cheap, for sure, but flawed
Review: I was elated to find this "gem" on sale at a big-box discount chain. Not needing a printer too often, I figured this would be a great deal. The printing quality was very good and operation was relatively simple, but cartridges were a killer, even for as seldom as I printed. Note too that users must switch between color cartridges and black frequently, otherwise the color variety is wasted quickly. This model conked out in only two years of light use.

Summary: Good printer
Review: I've got this printer as Xmas present. Nice looking thing. Also it says on its box, that is 1200x1200 resolution makes it bigger resolution on the earth, (printers of its class). seems to be good printer. But printing quite slow... I've tried print color photo 600x720 pix with 1200x1200 max resolution, its took about 4,3 min to finish. Finnaly output is Really good. Of course text printing is much faster. So if you need to print text, its a great choise. If you need photo-like output this one is still good. Unless you going to use it for news-paper or magazin printing :). Bottomline: Buy it, for home use.
