Rating: Summary: Bringing down the average Review: I noticed that there are 31/2 stars for this printer. That's way too much in my opinon. This printer is an absolute disaster. It barely prints at all, even after using Epson cartridges, cleaning the heads, and generally performing all the troubleshooting procedures, it still won't print. DO NOT BUY THIS PRINTER.
Rating: Summary: Yep, it's a lemon Review: I've had the same problem that everyone else has had... wish I'd read the reviews before I replaced the ink cartridges. My mother got the same printer and both of ours have stopped printing after a little over a year. Mine prints only color, and hers prints nothing at all. We could have bought a new printer for all the money spent on ink trying to fix the problem. I wrote Epson asking if others had the same problem I had but they didn't answer that question. Instead they told me the to clean the print heads at least three times and tell them every tiny, inconsequential detail about my software settings and paper type. It's a shame since the only other complaint I had before it stopped working is that it was shockingly noisy. From all the other reviews I've read, there's no fixing this. So now I have just a really huge scanner with full ink cartridges. I pulled my old HP 940c out of the closet and it works great after a year of no use.. and without even putting in new cartridges. I'm going to do as some of the others have and get an HP all-in-one... AFTER reading ALL the reviews, of course!
Rating: Summary: Save Yourself From Stress- Buy Something Else! Review: This multi did a decent job for 4 months, then stopped working. Epson exchanged it under warranty for another, and now it has stopped printing. Both occurred immediately after changing the print cartridge, and I have done all the things necessary to maintain it (cleaning nozzles, head cleaning, using Epson ink only, etc). Since it has been more than a year, this second printer is not warrantied, and Epson wants 10 bucks just to discuss it on their help line. Forget it!!! Stay with an HP. My old HP never broke down once in five years and delivered much better photo quality.
Rating: Summary: Never buy an Epson. They are junk! And the service is awful Review: I used this CX 5200 lightly for about one year. My workhouse printer is my networked HP Office Inkjet, so I used the Epson just for scanning, to make color copies, sometimes a printed document, and an occasional photograph. I got the low ink message several times and when it hit 10% left, I bought all new cartrides for just shy of $100 and installed them. It would not print. I cleaned and cleaned and consumed about 40% of my ink without ever printing a page. I called Epson and they would not talk to me unless I paid a fee. I tried to tell them it was an ink problem and the printer worked OK until I put in new ink, but they insisted it was not an ink problem but a warranty problem and I would have to pay up just to answer my questions.
I replaced this piece of junk(POJ) with a multi function HP 7410. It was more money, but it is network ready, has a color FAX, both wired and wireless, and works fine, HP service is good and product is great. This is my fifth HP in 12 years or so. I never had a serious problem with them and just outgrew them and gave them away. I will never stray to another brand agin - ESPECIALLY Epson!!!!!!!!! I think these cheap Epsons are like ball point pens; when the ink runs dry just throw them away. Remember, you get what you pay for and with Epsons you don't get much quality but you do get a lot of attitude from CS!!
Rating: Summary: Many of these clog after one year!! Review: Although I really like the all-in-one printer and the Epson CX5200 does a high quality job of printing, scanning, and copying -- I really can't recommend buying it. After 15 months of pride in ownership, my Epson clogged up beyond my capability of repair. I searched all over the internet trying to find ways to clean the heads. I did find some websites/discussion groups and it seems I am not alone in my disappointment in the Epson CX5200. Apparently many people suffer the same clogged Epson ailment. (Google: clogged Epson) To unclog it you have to take it apart and gingerly use a syringe and solution to unclog the heads and tubes. Many feel this is not worth the effort since the Epson CX5200 is under $200.00, so they ditch it and buy another cheap printer. It seems all this could be solved if Epson or some other entrepreneur would sell Print Cartridges with cleaning solution instead of ink (similar to the old VHS and cassette tape cleaning cartridges). It is a shame so many of these cheap printers end up in landfills.
Rating: Summary: Epson stuck it to us.... Review: I'v just read all the other reviews and the EXACT same thing happened to me. Bought the printer in Sept.'03 and it worked great for 15 months. Yesterday I changed cartridges and it just quit printing.
Followed all the advice on the Epson website - cleaned the heads, bought new cartridges... still won't work. I've had it more than a year, so I'm sure the warranty is out. I'll call Epson tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure after reading other's experiences it will be a waste of time.
Anybody need an expensive paperweight?
Rating: Summary: 1 year Lemon Review: I 've had this printer just over a year - and I can't believe how many people appear to be having the exact same problem as myself. I've been trying to fix my CX5200 today - I finally looked inside the machine and I can see black ink spilled underneath the area where the cartridge carriage rests - absolutely NO REASON (on my part) for it - I installed the new ink cartridge a few weeks ago and have been making regular print outs as fine and dandy as you please - until today. In fact, I pulled out each individual cartridge to see if I might have installed them wrong, or to see if the ink was leaking there - it's not - and I didn't install anything incorrectly. I cleaned the heads regularly, and the machine got regular light use. The problem appears to be in the mechanics of the printer. Unless my eyesight is ruined and I'm hallucinating all the sticky black ink spilled everywhere, I would conclude the heads are RUINED, and I'm stuck with a bunch of expensive ink cartridges. I've cleaned it over 10 times and absolutely nothing is changing...my warranty is expired, thanks for the lemon, Epson.
