Rating: Summary: Printing is fine - copying needs improvement Review: I just bought this product and only have one real concern for myself and a second that needs to be noted for anyone thinking about buying this product... the size did not bother me, neither did the noise... the problem? there is not document feeder when you are copying things.. you have to change each page manually... here I am copying, opening it up, putting the second page on, copying.. etc.. i dont know why there isn't an automatic feeder that I can drop all these papers into and come back when they are done...secondly - this does not copy or scan items that are larger than letter size... for those of you who need to copy legal size documents - this won't work for you...
Rating: Summary: So far so good ( With fingers crossed) Review: I bought the unit online from Amazon[.com] on the 13th of this month. Received it the next day! How do you do it Amazon[.com]? Great print, great scan resolution, exquisite color copies. Noisey and klunky on the sheet feeding, but is quiet otherwise. I do have a glitch that popped up recently with the scanner portion that I'm working with the tech on, but I expected to have problems with my Windows ME operating system (Worst system MS ever dreamed up). I had a Compaq A3000 all in one that I used the heck out of, but the quality doe's not compare to the CX5200. Great machine for the money. Gave the wife the Compaq to do her scrap booking, but I'm into some historical research and photos and the Epson is the one to use. I am using a lot of ink, but it is due to the high resolution that I scan in. I like to enlarge to 8x10 so need the high resolution to keep from gettin too pixally. Buy it, you'll like it.
Rating: Summary: Just Ordered our Second One! Review: I think that the first review I wrote has disappeared. In short, we've had the CX5200 for a little over a month and have been so impressed that I ordered another just moments ago. The first one actually was supposed to be for use by one of our sons. Now we'll have our own. Our first printer was an Epson Dot Matrix, and we were happy to upgrade in 1992 to an Ink Jet printer from another manufacturer. Since then we have worked with three more printers from that company. They took care of our printing tasks, but so many times we encountered what seemed to be convoluted methods. And little glitches seemed to pop up at the wrong times, like after I had gone to bed. My wife is a high school math teacher and stays up late some nights working on tests. It was a too common experience for me to be awakened to come solve some problem with the printer. Those nights are gone it seems! With the CX5200, we just use logical thinking and press what seems to be the proper button. It works! We haven't had a reason to try color printing of a photo, but we have copied school papers several times. This may be crazy, but the copies are better than the originals.
Rating: Summary: Great for everyday use but not if you do much photo printing Review: This is a great multifunction unit if you just need something for everyday use. Resolution is great, print speed is great and the value is wonderful for all of the features! However, the paper feeder is a bit loud and I do bunches of photo printing and could not get the color to come out right on this unit no matter how many different settings I tried. All my photos were either too dark or if I could get them light enough, they still seemed to have a smoky haze to them. Also, the user guide that is not included in the box but loaded onto your PC seems to be very vague in some areas. I bought the Canon I950 instead and love it! I wish this printer would have worked for the photo printing because I really liked the idea of the scanner/copier combo. But...this is not a photo printer although it has the capability to print photos and that is why it does not fit my needs. If all you want is to print, copy, and scan then this is your printer.
Rating: Summary: So Great.....We're planning on Another! Review: Our first printer was an Epson dot matrix, but we were thrilled to upgrade to another company's ink jet in 1992. Since that time we have used four printers from that company. Each one was better than the prior unit, and they did the job. But each new printer seemed to present a more convoluted system of use. And we grew tired of the space taken by a scanner, printer, and fax. Our son's printer began "acting up", and at about the same time Epson began advertising this CX5200. We took a chance and ordered from Amazon. That order changed our printing world instantly! Now we think we may have become Epson customers for life! This machine works just like it should. There's no need to hold a manual in one hand and search for the proper "button" anymore. Even on the first print/copy/scan job we just stood there, thought for a moment, and punched the buttons that seemed to be the logical choice. It worked! My wife is a high school math teacher, and she stays up late many nights and often uses the scanner. There's no more waking me to come to the rescue for another failed printing task. This Epson does what she wants without my help. As far as printing results: This may sound crazy, but we copied some material that came out looking better than the original. We've not had an opportunity to try the color photo printing, but we expect it to be first class. Now, for the caution. Follow the installation instructions to the letter, even down to the commas and periods. I spent most of a Saturday with repeated installations and uninstalls before I got the 5200 to working. Part of the problem came from a conflict within the computer, but I mean it when I say to read those instructions and do exactly what it says. Once you do that, you are home free.
Rating: Summary: Very Impressed!!! Review: I bought this about a month ago, and I am extremely happy with it!!I was previously just using the generic printer that came with the computer I bought 3 years ago. Compared to the capibilities of my prior printer, this one blows it away. I am very, very impressed by the quality, and even more with the price--for what it can do, it's worth alot more. The printing is definately high photo quality. I use glossy photo paper to print pictures from my digital camera, and it looks just like a professional photo. The scanning/copying capibility is amazing too, as it captures beautiful color and detail with extreme clarity. My only issue would be with the instructions (or lack of), as some things I had to figure out on my own. For example, if using non-standard size paper(as in 4x6 glossy photo paper), you have to set the size under the "user defined" paper size option. I used up a lot of ink trying to figure this out, because 4x6 sized paper was not listed as an option under "paper size", and I had a hard time getting it to print centered on the paper. Use the "user defined" option if you use a paper size other than a full sheet, and it will print fine. Overall, I am very, very impressed with this printer. Amazing, just amazing. Definately worth the price.
Rating: Summary: Sweet Little Printer Review: I bought this printer a little over a month ago and love it. The paper feed is loud, but the actual print is quieter than my Epson Stylus 600. It is also quite a bit faster than the Stylus 600. Text quality is wonderful. I've scanned several pictures, and have been happy with the results. Some people might prefer a photo printer, but this one is great for everyday use. Set up could not have been easier. Finally, the printer is solid. Nothing looks cheap or flimsy. I've been very happy with this printer, and don't hesitate to recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Noisy Review: The CLUNK when it starts printing is enough to make you jump. Text printing, text copying, and scanning quality are very good. Copies of photos were okay, but I did not play with the settings, so better quality is probably available. I'm returning it largely because of the NOISE. I will wait for the new version, hoping the problem is solved.
Rating: Summary: Epson Stylus CX5200 Review: Works just fine with Windows XP. Install ONLY the Epson driver off of the included CD-Rom for a nice clean install. All Scan/Print functions can be accessed directly via the Windows XP included utilities. Sheet feeder is a bit on the loud side. Highest Quality photo printing is slow, but roughly the same as other inkjets. Overall I'm quite pleased thus far.
Rating: Summary: Great all round machine Review: I have a new born baby, so my primary requirement was photo printing. I bought this as a replacement to Lexmark 3200 and Umax Astr 2000U scanner. I also have some very old B&W (40 years old) photographs with lots of blemishes. I wanted to restore and make copies of them since I don't have negatives or extra copies. I tried Kodak's picture machines at drug store. The output was lousy from the black and white picture. I was told in the photo lab, that a professional restoration of the photos would cost me $39 per photo. I have several of these photos that require restoration, so it would easily run somewhere near $800. I thought it might be a good idea to try this machine for restoration, since it has good scanning capability (1200X2400). After unpacking the unit, I tried color copy feature with a portrait picture of my kid in a glossy paper. It was ok with the color scan. Then I tried the old black and white (2X3 size) and enlarged it to 4X6. I was taken aback by the quality of the copy. I have no way to describe my happiness that the copy was much much better than the original with no blemishes that i see in the original. It was perfect. I guess I recovered the cost of the printer right there. It is truly amazing with subsequent enlargement to 8X10 too. Now I have a portrait of my parent's photo from a small 2x3. You cannot beat the color copying capability of this printer too. It offers many professional options (like enlargement, photo paper, paper size etc) right out of the box without the need for a PC. You don't need to run to a professional photo lab to restore old photos, you can do this right at your home. Isn't amazing!!!. Setting up the system with PC is not that bad. I'm little bit disappointed with the color photo priting. May be I didn't try all the options (matte paper etc) (...)I was in a dilemma between this printer and Epson 825 photo printer. It uses 4 different color cartridges as opposed to 6 in 825 printer. I figured that it should not make that much of different as 825 is 5760x720 this one 5760x1440. Also 5200 uses dura-brite 825 doesn't. On top of it the high end canon photo printers use 4 cartridges like this one with beautiful results. As you see, I was torn between 825 and 5200, finally ended buying this one for its all round performance. So far I'm very satisfied with this machine. I just got to try different setting with photo printing.
