Rating: Summary: You won't regret it! Review: ...I saw the new HP 3420 and decided to try it - I was amazed at how good this printer is even though it's so [inexpensive]. It was easy to install, and worked the first time. I've printed many web pages, and the colors are remarkably bright, and the text is dead sharp. The design is very smart too, because the paper tray folds up neatly and tucks away under the lid. The ink seems to last forever, which has been the biggest suprise. I've printed well over 100 pages and the ink display show that I have used less than 1/2 of the color ink. I've even printed several full-page photos using the HP photo paper. The photo output is stunning...I'm very glad I decided to give HP a try ... HP has a winning printer here, ...nothing else can compare. Good work HP!
Rating: Summary: So far so good... Review: The images I printed look good at "Normal." My printouts are only for filing and invoicing purposes, NOT DISPLAY NOR ARCHIVING. (This HP Deskjet 3420 prints "Best" quality at 2400 dpi. What dpi is "Normal?" You know, I'm not too sure but I'm happy with my results!) The two cartridges are each approxiamately $22 bucks. Find a printer that has cartridges that cost less and it will probably have four or more different cartridges. Right off that's a more expensive printer. And changing all four will likely be the same price. At "Normal" settings, I've been able to print approxiamately forty 4 by 6 inch color photos with the initial cartridges. Add about 40 pages of black text. If I get 100 more pages of text and 30 to 40 more photos without changing the cartridges, I'll be very happy. If the printer lasts three years, cartridge prices remain below $25 and print quality does not visibly diminish, I'll be satisfied with this purchase. In the store just before I made my purchase, the Lexmark salesperson exhibited the Lexmark Z605 printer. It prints best quality at 4800dpi, which is better thant the HP Deskjet 3420. The Lexmark Z605 costs 50 bucks, which is cheaper. But the cartridges, according to the sales representative, cost $30, which is more expensive. (Do they have more ink than the HP deskjet 3420 cartridges? I don't know.) I've never had a Lexmark and don't know about there reliability. The sales rep was not very convincing. The cartridges cost $22. I've worked with HP brand and I know they make good reliable printers. (They also make products that are very disappointing.) But I was more willing to risk purchasing an HP. Also the HP Deskjet 3420 is not large and doesn't take up a lot of desk space to me. For those reasons, I chose this printer. Be careful with your decision and good luck!
Rating: Summary: Forget it Review: As the owner of several HP Deskjets, I figured this would be the perfect model for my laptop. Not so. I have tried numerous times to load the software to connect the printer. After several sessions with customer support, the printer still does not work. And I've wasted many hours. Do yourself a favor and get a 920 or a 940 or a 960 and forget this model.
Rating: Summary: False economy Review: At first this little printer seemed like a real bargain -- surprisingly good quality printing and reasonable speed for the price. However, it gulped up (expensive) ink at a very rapid rate, so it turned out to be a very expensive printer to maintain. Worst of all, just like a previous reviewer's experience, my printer spat out a little plastic part after six months of use. HP's warranty on this is only 90 days, so in the trash it went (it would have cost more to fix than to replace) Two take-home lessons: (1) Cheap isn't always cheap. This might be one of the cheapest HP printers to buy, but they'll make it back from you the first time you have to replace the cartriges. (2) Be very, very suspicious of any product that the manufacturer won't give more than a 90 day warranty for.
Rating: Summary: A must buy - reliable and inexpensive! Review: Great value for money. Easy setup. Compact. Immensely satisfied with purchase. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Rating: Summary: Don't buy this piece of junk!!! Review: HP claims to have spent 2 Billion dollars on bringing out the new family of printers, all I can say is they didn't spend enough of it in QA. I have just spent 4+ hours trying to get this to print. Had trouble and went to help (HP instant support) What this is are overloaded tech's trying to handle up to 15 interactive chat sessions at once. This was a big waste of time and I eventually decided I need more attention. Called support (a non 800 number ) Got to talk to a tech and after 45 minutes we decided it was defective hardware (the printer) Now to get a replacement in less than 10 days means I pay expedited frieght. I think I going to return the new technology and buy one of the old series 600 printers. Not fancy but reliable. To summarize, this is Alpha product and has not had enough testing to be considered ready for everyday users. Wait 6 months and buy the next release.
Rating: Summary: Not worth it the headache! Review: I admit it, I bought it for the cheap price($79 at Fry's). It had the HP name which hasn't failed me before. I had to change the cartridges way too often (I don't print that much, I do work at work and just leisure at home.) They are not cheap for how often you have to replace them. (I should have saved that money and bought a new printer instead.) Never got a chance to print photos on photo paper so I can't comment on the quality. Looked okay on regular paper. I was immediatley disappointed that there is no option to print in grayscale to save the pricey color cartridges. Way too loud! Loudest printer I've ever known! Like many others, one day my printer cartridges wouldn't move so from reading the other reviews and hearing the small pieces moving around the bottom now, I'm assuming that the cheap plastic pieces broke and I will have to go purchase a new printer since I've owned this one for about 9 months (way past the 90 day warranty). I'm pretty handy so I tried to see if I could open it up and tinker with it and it doesn't even use standard screws. Overall this printer was a royal pain in the tooshy.
Rating: Summary: Well worth it! Review: I am a college student and recently was looking for a printer for my dorm room. I didn't have much to spend, and not much space to spare. I ran across this printer and decided to buy it because of its cheap price and compact size. I set it up and everything works great. It's fast, not really quiet, but not loud at all. I recommend this printer to anyone who is looking to do some casual printing. I print school assignments, essays and such. That is all I need. I don't print much, but when I need to I know this printer can handle it.
Rating: Summary: Stay away Review: I bought this printer 8 months ago... and after some problems with installation on my computer running Windows XP ( some files were missing???) it worked fine until last month when it stopped printing and the error message said the cradle could not move... after 1 hour it started printing again...but last week I got the same error message and the printer spitted two plastic pieces (broken... of course)and as you can imagine the thing doesn't work anymore... so if you want a printer that lasts less than a year get this one...if not... stay away!!!
Rating: Summary: Not durable, buy at your own risk Review: I bought this printer about 7 months ago. I was satisfied with it's quality and speed. A bit noisy but okay. The biggest problem was the costly ink, but since I didn't really print much, this is still okay. Now the REAL problem, it spitted out some plastic parts today and stopped working anymore. The warranty period is just 90 days, and instead of paying for the repair, you can pay the same amount for another new printer. You get the idea. Buy at your own risk.
