Rating: Summary: Bargain Price For Quality Review: I have purchased so many printers over the years (less expensive ones) and they never seem to last. Although this one is new to me, I am completely impressed. It's fast - pumping out a page every 7-8 seconds and the quality on every type of paper matches my roommates LASER printer! I can see no difference and he paid $250 more than I did. The resolution is photo quality and this has never been true for me in the past. The ink cartridges cost the same as most machines, but are easy to find in any store (and here on Amazon.com). The sleek design is a bit much, but that's not really that important to me. Time will tell how long it lasts, but for this price, how can you lose? You can always send it back, but I doubt I will.

Pros: Easy to set-up almost plug 'n play somewhat quite very fast Windows XP compatable Auto paper type dectectCons: Ink cartrige is only 19ml large desktop footprint no user manual hardcopy (on the cd is the full manual) I would recommend the HP 5550 to anyone who wants a reasonalby priced fast, excellent text and photo quality printer that is very easy to use. The out the door cost is very reasonable and is very sleek looking. HP has done an good job with this one.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: I purchased this printer for my Real estate business because of the shher fact it can print photos so fast. Little did I know I may have bought the best printer ever. This thing is a rocket. I have yet to replace the original ink cartridges that come half full. I love this printer and would recommend it to anyone for any reason.
Rating: Summary: Very poor build quality Review: First one I brought home the lid broke while installing the cartridges. Brought it back and with the second the cartridges starting slamming into the side. Doesn't matter how good it prints if it breaks. Took it back and got a Canon S520. Couldn't be happier. Lower ink costs and better print options. HP lost this customer forever (until they go back to better build quality). Run away from this printer as fast as you can. Biggest piece of junk on the market!
Rating: Summary: Space age product Review: I stumbled across this product while searching for a printer for my grand-daughter for college. It is fast, (necessary for a teenager), prints near perfect pictures in double color cartridge mode, and double-sided printing can be added. On top of all that, it is really stylish. It looks like something from the Starship Enterprise. The price is reasonable, and the price for ink cartridges is pretty high like those for all excellent printers.
Rating: Summary: great printer Review: This was an impulse buy. I was browsing through amazon.com, knew that I needed a new printer...but I wasn't sure that we needed it right then...because we have another computer with a printer. I cliked the one click button and was immediately regretful. I didn't stop the order though because I really did want this printer. Oh am I glad that I bought it. I have been printing out so many things since I have gotten it. The pictures look wonderful and stationary and envelopes are beautiful. It is very quiet and prints at a fairly fast speed. I highly recommend this printer.
Rating: Summary: HP : Easy Choice Review: We just bought a new computer and we needed a new printer to go with it. I looked at most of the majors (HP, Canon, Lexmark, Epson, etc) offered at the department stores. Canon: I still have a bad taste in my mouth from our old Canon bubble-jet. Lexmark: I know NO ONE with a Lexmark... and reviews I've read are mixed. Epson: Comparable features to HP, but the HP model was a bit less money and it just looked "slicker". At my work place, EVERY printer is a Hewlett Packard (950C, 830C, 990CXI, 600, etc). I've never experienced any problems with any of them... so I guess you could say from the get-go, I was leaning toward HP. I also liked how the paper was stored (some printers actually had the paper bent over and almost folded in half). I didn't want to buy the least expensive model or the most expensive. I wanted a mid-priced printer that I will use on occasion; have the capability to print nice photographs if I need to; and the kids can use for reports and various school projects. So far, reports look wonderful, pictures have great clarity and brilliant color. I am pleased with my purchase.
Rating: Summary: Great Quality For A Great Price! Review: After first having an HP 722 and then an HP 895, I knew I'd get another HP printer. A few months ago, I tried an HP 940 and then the 960. I returned both because the paper was always jamming and was quite noisy picking up and dropping the paper onto the tray. I'm glad I returned it because now I'm very happy with my HP Deskjet 5550. Besides the unique shape of the printer, another noticeable difference from the other HP printers is the size of the cartridges. They're much smaller than the older models (700-900, etc.) so it most likely won't last as long printing as those printers. That's only a very small down point, though. I've now done many test samples of the printing and it's great. It doesn't jam like the 940 and the 960 always did for me. Its resolution can go up to 4800 x 1200 dpi on photo paper. Its printing is true photo quality and can be even better if you wish to buy the photo cartridge. Its speed is also exceptional. You can't go wrong with this purchase.
Rating: Summary: HP does it again! Review: My daughter took my DeskJet off to college. I have had several HP DeskJets and I have a LaserJet at home, too, but I went to the store intending to buy one of the popular Epson ink jet printers. A very patient sales rep at Staples let me put the 5550 through its paces and compare it to the comparable Epson, Canon and Lexmark printers. There's no comparison. HP just keeps getting it right.
Rating: Summary: HP, Low Price, HIGH Quaility Review: When I bought this printer, I was going to get an Epson 785EXP. When I did a side by side comparison, the HP was so much better. The colors were sharper and the images more crisp. I also was able to print off the same picture on a Lexmark Z65 and Z45. The HP was just as good as the Lexmark Z65, but the beat the Z45 with no questions. The Z45 was just awful. My old printer (Epson 740) was better that the Z45. When I did a side by side of my old Epson and the new HP, there was a remarkable differenc as well. The HP prints so much like developed roll film. Buy it, you will be happy!
