Summary: Good one but a huge piece
Review: Here comes best of both.
A printer for conventional use and also for printing photographs.
It prints really fast too.

I love this printer except that it occupies lots of space.

Summary: HP does it again!
Review: I've always owned HP printers. The HP 5550 is my 4th. I recently purchased an Epson Photo 785EPX for my photo printing and upgraded my HP deskjet 930 to the 5550. I was blown away by the pictures the HP printed. Excellent color and clarity. Compares with the Epson 825, with 5760dpi. Ink cartrdiges are expensive and you have to swap out the black cartridge for the photo cartridge, but when you see the pics you will be pleased!!!

Also what I love is that it turns itself off, kind of like sleep mode, so there is no need to turn it on when you need to print something.

Summary: Works well, some disappointment
Review: I bought this to replace my HP 930C inkjet printer that I gave to my daughter for college. The 930 is a printer that I would give a solid 5 stars for low noise (virtually none), print quality, paper handling, and ink costs.

For the 5550, the print quality and paper handling is very good. What disappoints me is the higher ink costs (per page) and increased noise level over the 930. This printer claims to have better print quality specs than the 930, but I could not see it. Both are very good.

Disappointments aside, it's a good quality printer with a nice updated style. HP print quality is one of the best. Never any smudges or ink blots from the ink cartridges.

Summary: Bought it for speed but the color print is wowing me
Review: When my printer died last night I had to go get something in the $1-200 range to make do, and didn't have time to read reviews which I normally do before making a purchase. So, off to [store] and picked this up because it was on sale and it took a parallel cable (my oldish computer has an early USB that gets flaky when too many devices go onto it). I brought it home--set up with windows 98 (I told you it was an old system) was mindlessly simple. I did a test on the back of used paper. Couldn't believe my eyes. Ran another on the glossy paper they included. Wow! printshop quality.

It seems sort of noisy but I like the horizontal feed--the vertical feed on my old Lexmark was always jamming. I suspect I won't be able to tweak speed as much as I want, but I already spotted a setting that I can use to set the rate at which ink is laid down to light for an ink-conserving ultra-light draft mode.

Ink cartridges are always a racket and I haven't had it long enough to see how they will fare for this one. But right now I'm in love with the good looks of what it produces.

Summary: Excellent Printer for Photo and General Use
Review: I've previously owned a Epson 850 and it really [wasn't good]. The quality of print was not upto par with what was advertised, it made too much noise, too about 5 minutes to warm-up.. List goes on and on. Then recently I bought an HP. I don't know why so many people told me to buy something else when all HP does is make the best printers in the world? Stupid me. I am not reading cnet ratings nor letting other people persuade me anymore. Flat out, no one beats HP in printers. This printer is exceptional.. Photos are crisp and very easy to use. You should not have get stressed out to print something. Buy this printer. You will not regret it.

Review: WHEN I USE, I NOT BELIVE THAT RESULTS

Summary: buy something else
Review: i liked the design but the footprint was too large for my desk. photo reproduction was very good but the text printing was terrible. the out-of-paper light kept going on even though paper was "in the hopper'. i was disappointed in this product and sent it back.

Summary: Best of Both Worlds!
Review: If you're doing loads of research in an attempt to find a printer that produces photo-quality prints and crisp text documents, look no further!
I was originally planning on getting the HP PhotoSmart 1315 to go with my Sony CyberShot DSC F707 digital camera. I noticed it wasn't readily available, and figured out that HP had released the 7550 with similar, and presumably updated, features. My sister-in-law has the 1315, and the print quality is excellent but the machine is very slow.
Well, I was at Best Buy and the salesman convinced me to try the Lexmark Z65. I returned it the next day because of the horrible print quality (horizontal banding).
After even more research, I decided to try an HP like I had planned to. I was debating between the PhotoSmart 7550, 7350 and 7150. I was afraid that I would be "missing something" by not going with a more expensive printer. Wrong!
I compared the 7150's features with the 5550's and decided the latter would suit my needs. I bought the 5550 today and I could not be happier! For B&W printing (text) on regular paper, the 5550 acts just like a regular Deskjet, but there is a hidden side to this printer. Printing with Kodak photo paper and the original color ink that came with the 5550 produced excellent results, even though HP offers a "photo" color ink cartridge to be used for color photo printing. I don't think it is necessary! My prints looked just like my sister-in-law's (we have the same camera and use the same paper) but it cost ... less! How great is that?
Stop researching and buy it already!

Summary: Really Nice
Review: The print quality is excellent. It's easy to set up, install, and use. The footprint is kind of big, but overall, there's a lot to like about this printer. There's a feature that keeps the ink from drying out when not in use, which I like.

Summary: Very happy with this printer!
Review: I had recently purchased this printer. It does a great job printing photos on HP photo paper (even with the ink cartridges it came with, you can also purchase separately another cartridge specifically for photo printing). I was very impressed that it looked like store developed pictures. I have yet to try it out with the photo ink. Text printing is great in b/w & color. For the price, it's worth the money. No complaints about it. We were thinking about a multifunction printer by HP, but we were told that the print quality & $ of this printer can't be beat, especially for photos.
