Summary: Best Home Printer I've ever owned
Review: Truly an amazing printing experience with such a small price tag. Picture printing is absolutlely outstanding with colors so vibrant they practically jump out at you. Text and Text with graphics printing is really fast. This is a must have printer for everyone!

Summary: This One Is A Winner!
Review: I was looking for a printer to do photos and text, I looked at Canon i850 and s900, text quality on both is terrible, looked also for Epson, most of the reviews on Epson gave me the feeling that they have reliability problem.

I do have an old HP (660C) that is still working great after 7 years, but can't provide the print quality of new technology; I was not willing to spend more than $$$.

I got this printer from Costco for $$$+ tax, how can you go wrong with that price? Out of the box, with no adjustments, no configuration, I managed to print an amazing 8x10 photo that I took with a 3.2 MP Canon digital camera (S30) on a provided HP glossy photo paper.

One point to consider, the printer uses the same cartridges that are used by the more expensive Photo Smart printers from HP, the only difference is that it comes equipped with a black cartridge (56) and a tri color (57), you can buy the photo cartridge (58) that replaces the black one and will make it exactly like the Photo Smart.

But even with the basic cartridges I got amazing results, don't forget that the cartridge is the actual print head.

Text is amazing on plain paper; it's very fast and quiet.

As I said, It's a winner.

Summary: UNBELIEVABLE!!
Review: I tried several printers before I finally got this one and I LOVE it!!! I can't say enough good things about it. I wanted a printer that I could print photos with...one with sharp, colorful and detailed results. I didn't want a photo printer by itself because I also print other things. I wanted something versatile, yet not too expensive. The thing I like best about it, is it has a separate optional PHOTO cartridge for printing photos. I also print documents from my word processor, but I love the idea that I don't have to use up my tri-color ink printing my photos. The printer using the photo cartridge gave me such wonderful results that I bought myself a new 4 megapixel digital camera. I will probably never go back to film again!! The amazing color, resolution and detail that this printer puts out is just UNBELIEVABLE!!! Documents are razor sharp! Colors are brilliant! It looks great on my desk! It's the best printer I ever owned...hands down!

Summary: Best prints I've seen so far!
Review: I was looking for a printer that doesn't just print photos well but also text and graphics.
I spent several days researching the latest printers and finally found the winner - HP Deskjet 5550!
The prints are great, especially photos, which look like professional prints! The printer warms up quickly, is very quiet and prints very fast!
I was not so happy about the design but I finally got used to it. The printer looks good next to the Epson 1660 Photo Scanner.

I highly recommend the printer to everyone interested in a printer that prints text and photos equally well.

Summary: Great printer, but the support is lousy
Review: I purchased an HP5550 about a month ago. Prior to that, I had always used Canon printers, but the reviews said that the 5550 was a solid, inexpensive printer. It worked great for a month, and then the print heads locked up. I called the support line (a toll call -- no 800 line for support, even under warranty!) and was told that it would take 11 days for a replacement printer to arrive! After complaining that my business couldn't function for 11 days without a printer, I was told that I could get the printer in 2 days for an additional $20.00. And, of course, I have to pay to return the broken printer as well.

So, this solid, inexpensive printer is no longer either solid or inexpensive. My recommendation: don't buy this printer unless you can live without it when you need service under warranty.

Summary: Fast, cheap, mac-friendly, easy to use, duplex, kill button!
Review: I got this in a hurry and its the best thing I did - fast 17ppm at draft mode which is great quality unless you are submitting an assignment or report. Relatively cheap, it was easy to setup and USB or parallel ports, okay with both PC or Mac. Resolution for colour fine, and it detects paper type - so far so good.

You can get a duplex unit here in Singapore at least at about one-third the printer's price which snaps in the back for double sided printing.

It has a KILL button for rabid print jobs, marked 'X'. Love that!

Go for it unless you need a laser!

Summary: A great value!
Review: I was prepared to buy the Lexmark Z65 printer, but the hp 5550 was suggested by a Staple's Associate. I did the research and bought the hp 5550.

I am very pleased with the hp 5500. The text is clean and crisp. The colors are vivid. The replacement ink cartridges are reasonably priced (especially the black). The printer driver software is user-friendly and the owner's guide is replete with easily accessible and helpful information. The hp 5550 is fast, too. The overall quality of the hp 5550 is impressive and the price makes it a true bargain.

Summary: Good printer, Good price, maybe a little slow
Review: I've had nice output for all 3 of my needs. Draft text is fairly fast and good to read. Color prints are good. Photos on photo-quality paper are great, even without the photo ink cartridge. This printer *senses* what type of paper you have loaded and changes print resolution accordingly. (i.e. it will switch to 4800x1200 when you load photo paper.) I set it up on Windows in about 5 minutes. I set it up in Linux in 5 minutes with CUPS using the Deskjet 990C foomatic + hpijs driver. I'm glad I bought it.

Summary: It's an HP... What do you expect!!
Review: I have been a HP fan for years and recently was in a pinch for cash and went with a Canon. What a mistake. From the beginning I noticed obvious problems and it finally died after only 6 mos.

I'm a college student and waisting cash is not an option. I found myself in the middle of a spring semester without a printer and out that wasted cash. I learned my lesson and wasn't going to make that mistake again.

After upgrading to a new laptop I knew it was time to find an HP! Having had the HPDeskjet 5550 now for nearly 3 mos I must say it is good to be back with HP! Print quality is simply outstanding! I use the option to make quick (lower quality) prints when I'm working on editing essays. I honestly cannot tell the difference between my "lower quality" prints and the "high quality" prints my friends have with their epsons and canons!

I do agree with another review that the only drawback is the high cost per page in ink. Install was simple with easy to follow instructions. You will need to purchase a USB or Parallel cable seperately as HP no longer seems to be including cables. Not only is it a great quality printer it also has a stylish design. Go with the HPDeskjet 5550 it is worth every penny!

Summary: Great Buy
Review: Yes the ink cartridges are small but the printer is more efficient. You will notice also that the ink is cheaper than normal. The cost per page is roughly 4-5 cents for text which is really good in inkjet printing. Reading reviews I noticed people did not feel that the pictures were any better then their previous hp's. Reason being they probably did not print them in the 4800x1200 dpi mode because it is not default. Using that resolution, decent paper and best quality the pictures look suprisingly good. I also like the self-alligning cartridge feature so you do not have to choose the best fit lines. I would recommend this printer for almost anybody. The only flaw that I found with this compared to the higher priced models is that this one only takes the tri-color and black/photo. The printer will not take all three at the same time like some of the other models. Other then that it is great.
