Rating: Summary: Like having your own photo lab!!! Review: When used with the glossy photo quality paper avaialable from HP, Kodak and others, this printer puts out pages that look like they were printed using a photographic process. Colors are vibrant, sepration is excellent, and you CANNOT see the bands of ink that I normally associate with Inkjet technologies.I use it to print digital photos taken using a Canon Digital Elph with 2.1 megapixels. ...you cannot beat the cost per print. The quality is often better than result I get from my Nikon SLR printed by a photo lab, and you can't beat the flexibility. Up until recently, I have felt that printer technology was improving incrementally, but this latest generation is a revolution in quality!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding output, speed, and value Review: This printer set up easily and quickly, even to a very old PC running Windows 98. It prints quickly compared to other modern inkjet printers I've seen. Photographs print nicely on plain paper; I imagine the results on photo paper would be beautiful. Text is stunningly laser-crisp.
Rating: Summary: They forgot to include a "Dear Schmuck" letter.... Review: Ok, great. I just received my new printer. It's 10 pm. A perfect time to try it out. But, what's this? NO CONNECTION CABLE INCLUDED! I can't believe out of the 50+ reviews I read about this printer, not one customer mentioned this cruical, purposefully missing part. You'd think they could at least mention it on the Amazon.com website; a simple statement "(USB connection cable is required, but not included except for Japan customers)". ... Guess I'll have to wait another day to try out the printer. Again, this is totally ridiculous. I'll repeat it once more for those scanning these reviews...NO USB CONNECTION CABLE INCLUDED. Steve
Rating: Summary: Quiet, Fast, Affordable Printing Review: The HP DeskJet 5550 is very quiet but is extremely fast for its price range. The print quality is excellent. I have printed pictures on HP Photo Paper with outstanding results. The images are crisp, clear, and fantastic. The DeskJet 5550 is an extremely good value and an excellent replacement if you own a noisy Epson or a slow Lexmark printer.
Rating: Summary: Needs Refinement Review: Good points: Nice design, extremely easy to set up and operate. Print quality is excellent, especially with the print cartridge. It's fast. There have been a lot of whinges about the price per print. Its more expensive that Canon, but if you can afford a printer, coputer and digital camera, you don't have to worry about a few cents here and there. Weak points I had a very old 600 series printer which often dragged in two or three sheets at a time even from being new. Imagine my dissapointment when my brand new 5550 did the the same! This happened a couple of times and seems to be triggered by having different types of paper together in the the tray. I hope this won't be a recerrant problem Its a bit noisey. I have it on top of an all-in-one computer stand/desk. I have the 5550 on the top shelf. The printer shakes it about like a ship at sea. Conclusion: Printers like this are incredibly cheap for what they do. As long as you don't expect too much you will get very good results from this printer. Its output is excellent. Long-term reliability is another issue which I can't comment on yet. Read Tomshardware.com 's review of it.
Rating: Summary: HP 5550 Printer--a great value Review: I bought the HP 5550 printer to replace my Epson 740 which quit printing in color after less than three years of use. I love the HP 5550 especially in comparison to the Epson. The Epson was always cleaning itself like a cat--very annoying. The HP just goes to work and prints. The HP 5550 sets up fast and the software is easy to use. Printing is relatively quiet, very fast, and high quality. I was surprised how high the quality is even when printing in "every day" mode. Finally, the X button on it is really convenient. It cancels the job NOW. That beats using software to cancel a printing job, something that usually wastes several pages before it goes into effect.
Rating: Summary: Bad paper feed. Review: The unit was defective and did not feed paper properly. On-line Technical support was great, but they couldn't resolve the problem and suggested sending it in for repair. I returned it for a refund instead. This is the first HP unit that has not functoned properly.
Rating: Summary: hewlett-packard deskjet 55550 Review: Since I became convinced due to all the positive vibes from your reviews, it's only fair to join the raves..I thought the Epson C80 was the final word until this baby jumped off the paper..Incredibly clear and deeply saturated with accurate colors, using the hp premium photo glossy print papers..interesting that with my nikon coolpix 2500 set on fine, the pictures look better with regular 4 color inks & black, rather than using the special extra color cartridge (85)..took me more than 40 minutes to the hp rep to let me know the printer was getting noinfo due to the cover being open, and not click locked..also figured the paper gets loaded upside down..nothing told me all this...all is forgiven with results.very quiet operation.low profile instead of "bread box"..I'm a convert !
Rating: Summary: Deskjet 5550 - Poor Design Review: I've always been loyal to HP, and I have owned both inkjet & laser HP printers. I was happy with my last inkjet (HP DeskJet 895cxi), so I was confident in buying another HP. Unfortunately, the DeskJet 5550 was incredibly loud, and shook so hard it rocked my heavy filing cabinet. The narrow paper tray makes loading paper difficult, yet it's even larger overall than previous designs. I ended up returning it, and I'm now looking at Epson and Canon printers.
Rating: Summary: Awsome Quality... though somewhat expensive. Review: I bought the printer because of its great looking (in-store) photo quality pictures, and its very competitive pricing. The printer is cheap, dollar wise, but rich quality-wise. The reason why this product is only getting 3 stars is this: It ships with HALF-Empty (or half-full, though i say empty because its going to get emptier before it gets fuller) and so this boiled my blood a bit... It was only after i bought the product, and tried to print 80 birthday cards, that i found that the cartriges ran out of ink before i got past 40. The paper is somewhat expensive, and generally if you print a lot, you'll be spending some money on supplies. The way it uses the 3 cartriges is good, however because usually you don't need the "highest quality" print. So when you are ready for the "best quality" you pop in the third (tri-color) cartrige to get the best out of your pics. This device has done nothing but great things for me otherwise, and I would buy it again, even knowing of its setbacks. Remember to take that Tri-color out when you're done... cause when the kids start printing 10 page essays for school, the tri-color will not last long as it mixes all colors to get a black!
