Rating: Summary: I Love This Printer! Review: I have used Epson printers since I started printing in color and in general have always been pleased with Epson quality and reliability. I read a few positive reviews on the C82 and decided to purchase one. I can tell you that I am absolutely amazed at the quality this printer puts out once you learn how to match the print setup with the media you are printing on. From a pure value standpoint, I don't think there is anything on the market that competes with it. Even in fast draft mode the quality is very acceptable for text and image documents. In enhanced photo mode on Epson's premium photo glossy paper, it will rival anything you can get from a professional printer. People who have trouble with shifting colors, clogged print nozzles etc. must be neophytes who need to pick up a manual and read it once in a while. I have had absolutely no trouble with this printer once I learned how to use it. That's the trick...you have to spend a little time working with it, and it will really pay off. For the money, you can't beat the C82!
Rating: Summary: Clogged print head Review: The print quality of the C82 is superb. But, the C82 has the print head built-in rather than part of a new cartrige. What that means is that WHEN the print head dries it will clog rendering the printer useless. Repair costs almost as much as the printer itself. Use Epson cartridges, follow the installation directions to the tee and you still can get a print head clog, air bubbles in the cartridge, I was told. Do an Internet search on 'Epson C82 not printing' and you will meet those who have already bought the C82. Epson's recommendation to me was to buy new cartridges, $60, then a cleaning kit, $10, that and a lot of my time. Next printer will have the print head and cartidge as one piece.
Rating: Summary: The Best--once you get past a few quirks.... Review: I came to the C82 by way of Epson Stylus 740, a truely great printer which never gave any problems until the day it died after 5 years of service. So I was a little surprised when the C82 arrived without a printer cable--fortunately I moved mine over from the 740, but new purchasers will have to go back to the store to get a cable. Epson did, however, supply a power cord, fortunately. I read all the reviews for the C82, and a few 740 users who were particularly disappointed with the C82 for its inability to print glossy photos. However, it does print great glossy photos on glossy paper as long as you always tell the printer that it's printing on matte paper. For some odd reason, Epson designed the printer to use all colors on matte paper, but dropped the cyan on glossy paper. Odd, but ok once you know what they're doing. Same beautiful pictures the 740 used to do--maybe even a little better. 3-bay color cartridge system to replace colors as they run out is a definite plus to save on ink--and I hated those other ones for the 740 that you had to peel off labels on or else they wouldn't work. You just pop these in. Oh yeah--that noise when each page starts. Sounds like a huge grinding gear sure to wake up your roommate. But you know, the 740 used to sit there and do this and do that and do this and that before it would start. This one just starts. So I guess there are always trade-offs. At a price under $100, you can't beat it.
Rating: Summary: A Strong challenge to Canon Review: I've had a long line of different printers right back to the Canon BJ-10 which took two minutes per page through the Stylus 880 and now the C-82. In all cases they are get better and less expensive, and all of them are still running. I just migrate them down to someone who is happy with an old printer, when I want something new. I'd have loved either the Canon or Epson that prints 13 x 19 for my D-SLR prints, but settled for this based on the cost ($$$ after rebate) compared to $$$ for the bigger one. Startup is a little noisy, but compared to the Stylus 777, it is quiet. I'm a little puzzled how some people got poor prints. Maybe they were third party inks or doing something else that is equally stupid in a new printer. If you have a good printer, and want good printouts, then use good ink. If you don't care about output quality or clogged jets, then third party is fine. Anyway, if you are looking for great value, tjos os a great choice.
Rating: Summary: Good value, fast printing Review: This printer is fairly nice for the money. It prints fast & clearly. We have four of them (three at work, one at home). They one bad thing (as I have also found with many other Epson printers) is that it feeds an extra piece of paper through the machine. I am not sure if this is a design flaw or what, but all 4 of our the C82 units do this. Other then that, this is a good printer. It is designed to use 3 color cartridges & one black. This seems to save on the cost of ink, although you seem to constantly be replacing the colored units. All in all, I am pleased with this printer.
Rating: Summary: Avoid this one Review: While looking for an HP to handle digital photos, I was conned into buying a C82 by an Epson rep who happened to be doing a promotion at a local Best Buy. We had it for about a week before it quit (we printed no more than 15 -20 text sheets during this time). Epson sent me a new one promptly, but this one doesn't fare much better. When used for the first time during a session, it takes awhile for a sheet to feed. I hear gears spinning but nothing happening for maybe 30 or more secs. I am waiting for this one to quit anytime. Loves to eat ink, also. Better to look at an HP or Canon if in the market for a new printer.
Rating: Summary: Highest Quality for the money & Photos that last! Review: I purchased this printer 1 month ago. This is my 3rd Epson Printer and I am absolutely thrilled with it. (By the way, even my 5 year old Epson still works like a champ!) This C82 is fast with very high quality and detail. I wanted this printer for the new DuraBrite inks, and the whole package has far exceeded my expectations. How can they do it for such a low price? I am looking again, and thinking of 2 friends with sad, slow, older printers. Lets see, it's only about 5 1/2 months till Christmas! I could get an early start!
Rating: Summary: Great printer-don't waste time thinking about it,-buy it! Review: This is a great printer. I love it and you can't beat the price. It meets all my needs and I love that it shows me how much ink is left in each of the color banks. I also like that I can purchase the ink separately. A lot of folks warned of the printer being loud. This is a true assessment but it's not annoying and worth what you get overall. The printer is fairly fast. I work in IT and have to say that this printer is well worth the price!!
Rating: Summary: Defective Epson C82 (twice!) Review: In the past I've had good luck with Epson printers, but this time around was a real problem. The unit that was shipped to me was defective from the start and would not print. Period. Epson replaced it with a refurbished unit. (I thought I was buying a new unit! If I want refurbished, I'll buy it [elsewhere].) That unit was defective too, only printing black and cyan. I finally got my money back. Buy the HP 5550 instead!
Rating: Summary: Hard to imagine a better printer Review: The speed, print quality, color, and durability of output from the Epson Stylus C82 really impresses me. I had a friend demonstrate one in a department store to me by taking a printout straight from the demo model to a water fountain and getting the paper sopping wet. It didn't streak, run, or fade in the slightest. Furthermore, I could handle the printouts the very second they exited the printer without waiting for them to dry. I've since been making quite a lot of printouts, from illustrations and digital photographs, and really have liked the vividness, quality, and speed at which the printer makes hard copy.
