Rating: Summary: Highly Recommended Review: An excellent buy for a home photo printer. Both 4x6 and 8 1/2x11 prints are indistinguishable from photo shop processing for the amateur photographer. Does a good job on text also, with impressive speed. Have printed both 4x6 and 8 1/2x11 prints from a 4 megapixel Canon S-45 and am very pleased with results. However, have found that Canon paper produces best results, other papers are not as good with the i850. Good, easy to use software for easy selection of paper, print sized and quality and pre-print cropping. Recommended without reservation.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Printer Review: This printer is just amazing for the price !! This is my first photo printer so I can't really compare. But so far I've printed 300 4x6 prints, and about 10 8x11 prints and the toner is still as new ! One thing is if you look close against the print you can notice that the lines are not too smooth and some colors do not come out too well. But like I said I have nothing to compare too so all the photo printers may do this as well. Another thing I found was that this printer prints best on the Canon Photo Paper they provide as a sample. I've tried HP and Kodak on it so far and the Canon by far prints better. They're just too expensive. But all in all I am quite pleased with my purchase
Rating: Summary: very good printer Review: this is one of the best printers i have owned to date. over the past 4 years i have owned several different printers, but still belive that canon makes the best printer for the average user. the only thing i can say against canon is the fact that you cannot download the rebate forms, so i feel that i am being charged for an additional thirty dollars that others can get back
Rating: Summary: Terrific printer Review: I took a picture of roses with my Canon G3, printed on Canon photo paper with the i850, and the image quality far surpassed my expectations. To the naked eye, it looks like it is a photo lab print, not an inkjet print. The separate ink tanks are a more economical way to go than the all-in-one cartridges. Great fast printer for a great price, highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: BUY THE i850! Review: I own the i850 and its exellent and I like the idea of individual tanks. The printer is extremely fast and the quality of photos are perfect but text is a bit fuzzy on regular paper.Im glad I bought this printer because its quiet fast has exellent quality affordable and easy to manage. One more thing I'd like to warn that its not that good when you print photos from ADOBE PHOTOSHOP ELEMENT 2.0 because the black of the photo has lines just print it with another company.Furthermore this printer is exellent I recommend it for everyone.
Rating: Summary: Look no further... Review: For home use, this printer does it all! You may have read the editorial reviews stating that the text quality is lacking, but I can tell no difference ,using a magnifier, between the text from the i850 and the laser printers at the office. The photo quality is outstanding! Everyone I show the pics to is amazed. As for the ability to print directly from the memory card? Come on, do you really want to spend the money on ink and paper before cropping or scrutinizing the picture for lighting, focus, defects?? To me this is the biggest benefit of a photo printer, being able to print only the photos that turned out. Otherwise, it's more economical to go to a photo lab. I think that option is only good for the "gee whiz" factor. For the money, you can't go wrong with the i850.
Rating: Summary: Best inkjet in its Class - Great results. Review: I believe that the Canon i850 printer is the overall best in its class for several reasons.1st: Quality. I use the i850 mainly as a photo printer and the photos it prints are virtually perfect. I have a 2Mp camera and even the 8 X 10's come out very nice. If you study the output very very carefully, you will see some dots. But, in general, the prints are as good as those done at the photolab. 2nd: Ink management. The i850 uses four seperate ink tanks that are easy to install, and last for a very long time. 3rd: Functionality. The printer is easy to setup and install. The software packages included with the i850 are enough to get you going, although Jasc's Paint Shop Pro or Adobe's Photoshop are irreplaceable. ... Overall, the i850 is a great home printer for the amateur photographer/student looking for great quality at an affordable price.
Rating: Summary: Canon i850 Printer Review: I have to agree with others that this printer is super quiet and very fast. Setup with Windows 98 was a breeze. I mainly bought this device to print photos from my 3.3 Megapixel Nikon because my local print shop isn't doing digital yet. After using a Nikon SLR for 15 years and having the photos printed from a professional local lab, I guess I have gotten spoiled. My local drugstore can print better photos than this printer. Yes, they are fast, and the software is easy to use, but even when using Canon's high quality (and expensive !) 4x6 photo paper, the images are a let down. I have since found another great lab that can print my images from email ..., which is probably about what I am spending to print from the Canon. For occasional photos and general printing this unit will be fine, but if you appreciate high quality photos, you may want to look somewhere else.
Rating: Summary: Totally impressed Review: I had been looking to buy a new printer for quite some time. After much comparative shopping and research, I decided to purchase the i850. This is one great printer!!! I continue to be amazed at the quality of the photo printing-definitely photo lab quality! The quality of text and graphics is far better than I was lead to believe after reading "expert" reviews. Ink usage is great compared to other printers (HP,Epson, Lexmark) that I have owned. For absolutely top notch printing from photos to text, this machine has no peer in its price range. Spending any more money on any other printer would be foolish.
Rating: Summary: Good all around printer Review: This printer does an excellent job with both text, graphics and photos. The key to good quality is using the right paper. Text looks slightly fuzzy if you use regular paper (e.g. 20/24 lb paper). But move up to coated paper or matte paper (37 lbs and up) and text is very sharp without any jagged edges. Likewise, graphics and photos look dull on regular paper. But use the Canon photo paper (Epson's also works great!) and, wow! This printer turns out excellent photos, despite only have four ink cartridges. This printer has many other good features. The separate ink cartridges for each color eliminate the need to throw away an entire color cartridge which may only be partially empty. Refill ink is plentiful and inexpensive. And the AC adaptor is not a bulky brick as some other power adapters are. Oh, and the fast printing for text and photos is another plus. In conclusion...buy this printer! You won't be disappointed.
