Review: Just wanted to tell everyone that this is the photo printer to buy. The photos are excellent, just like the one's you get from the foto-mat. Thanks!

Summary: Thank you, reviewers!
Review: I just printed my first photos on the Canon i850 and I wanted to thank all the people who took the time to review this printer. I took your advise and I'm as happy with the results as I've been with any purchase I can remember. Now I realize why I bought a digital camera (Nikon Coolpix 2500) in the first place. The photos were stunning in clarity and color. I am concerned about fading over the long term, but, hey, I can always print another. Also, I printed out a regular text document and it is as good as the HP Deskjet 882C I've been using. The Canon i850 delivers!

Summary: Wow!
Review: The i850 produces the best photo prints I've ever seen from an inkjet. I looked at the HP 7350 and a few from Epson because I've never owned a printer from any other manufacturer. When I started to read the reviews about this printer, I decided to check one out in person. I was immediately impressed by the quietness and speed -- and WOW, the finished print -- I couldn't find any flaws. I thought my HP 970 printed great photos but the Canon blows it away. I'll keep the HP because it still is a great all-around printer and I've only had it for a 2 yrs. Inkjet technology has made some great advances the past few years! And Mac users, this is a great printer because it works perfectly with OS 10.2 Jaguar -- including borderless prints. Just download the current drivers from Canon's web site. This is a fantastic printer for the price. A side note, one reason I decided to go with this Canon printer is because I've been very pleased with their scanners too. I have the N1240 and it produces great color tones with all my photo scanning. I highly recommend the i850 printer.

Summary: i850 Hits Price/Performance Sweet Spot
Review: As everyone else has noted, this is a very good printer for the cost. The performance will probably be sufficient for all but the most particular users. I just printed out a 8.5"x11" borderless print and cannot find a flaw in it. And the print out was relatively quick: 2'30" for a 1.5MB file.

The printer comes with the following:
- CD with 3 or 4 software programs, the drivers, and the complete documentation
- quick start guide
- (really) quick start poster which was enough to get everything running
- sample pack of the Canon 4"x6" Photo Paper Pro
- print head, ink cartridges, and power cord

As noted by other reviewers, a cord to connect the printer to your computer is not included. I bought a Belkin F3U133-06 USB Device Cable (6 Feet) which has the square connector for the printer and the flat connector for the computer. The printer can also use a parallel port cable, but I have not tested this.

Installation was pretty simple and worked fine with my old ('97) Windows 98 desktop and my new Windows 2000 laptop. I've mostly used the Easy Photo-Print program to print images. It automatically makes the proper printer settings so you don't have to worry about that.

Another nice feature is the Auto Power Setting available from the Maintenance tab. The printer can be setup to turn on when a document is printed to it and turn off after a certain period on inactivity.

Anyway, highly recommended.

Summary: Very fast and very good.....
Review: I recently had my first child and took a bazillion pictures of her with my Canon S40. Then came the daunting task of making hard copies. I had a printer that came with my Dell. It was so slooowwww and LOUD. After reading reviews on CNET, Amazon.com and Consumer reports, I decided to go for a Canon and eventually ended up with the i850. I couldn't more agree with all the positive reviews. This printer is amazing. The Photo pictures prints in 2 minutes and look like it came from a photo lab. You may need some tweaking if you have a darker picture. But the default is perfect normally.
I am by the way, concerned about some reviews that the pics fade away faster than an Epson print. But I promised myself to stay away from Epson due to its noise, speed and clogged nozzles. Canon says that the pics are good for 25 years in a 500lux environment (I guess in an album they will last longer than me). If you need pictures that last that long on exposed condition, like on a fridge, then you one eccentric person with a very lonely life and maybe five pictures. I change my pics many times and don't have time to wait that long. For framed pics I will always goto a photo lab.

Summary: Wow. I'm really impressed.
Review: Okay, I haven't had that many ink jet printers but I do graphic design and have worked with color lasers and this little inkjet beats them. I'm sitting here with a photo printed out borderless 4x6 that came out 15 seconds after hitting PRINT. This is a 9MB file on a USB 1.1 connection and it looks like it came from the lab. Stunning color, no dots, and perfect resolution. Caveat -- you have to print on the nice, glossy, photo paper but that's the case with all inkjets to get this quality.

Set up was a breeze and the instructions are very clear. The software is easy to use and necessary to get your prints right. BUT -- Don't forget to get a cable because it doesn't come with one (as most printers don't.)

Ink cartidges are all separate so if one gets low you replace just that cartridge. Since I just got it I can't tell you how long they last, but I can say:

BUY THIS PRINTER!

Summary: Excellent Photo Printer
Review: I had a Lexmark and it died so I decided to buy a new color printer. I've always been happy with the HP products (I have a HP LaserJet 3 and 5P) and was looking at their color printers at Fry's. I looked at a print on the printer next to the HP I was looking at and saw the quality. I was amazed! A Canon rep was there and said that it came from the i850. He did another print and that sold me! The quality is excellent for using for colors. Most photo printers use six colors. The best thing is the cartridges are inexpensive and if one color goes out, you just replace that color, as each color is individual. I have been using this printer for a month now and friends cannot tell the difference between a print from the i850 or from a processed print. I highly recommend this printer.

Summary: The Best Inkjet for the Money
Review: Setup is a breeze on XP. Took 5-10 minutes to install w/software. Bought a PCI USB 2.0 5-port card ... and a USB 2.0 cable. This makes a huge difference in print speed. Also has a large printer buffer (248KB) ram for an inkjet. Also this printer doesn't smear its ink like my old HP did. The cartridges are reasonably priced unlike HP. ...

Summary: Easy setup and fast printing make this a must have
Review: For years I balked at getting an inkjet printer, and used my trusty HP Laserjet. However, as I made the transition to Windows XP and a new Gateway 700XL, I found myself without the ability to print photos; Sony had chosen not to release XP drivers for their DP-10 photo printer.

So I finally broke down and bought a Canon i850 P>Setup was a breeze. Canon has easy to read instructions (that actually make sense and work as written).

B&W printing is faster on this printer than my laser. Photo printing is awesome. I only wish Canon et. al. would go the extra mile and include the cable, in this case, a USB 2.0 Hi-speed. I almost walked out of the store without one.

I'll keep the Laserjet for volume B&W printing, but the Canon i850 has been designated as the default printer on my machine.
